atquinn Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 http://cgi.ebay.com/Early-80s-Hamer-Specia...=item4aa3585659It seems like I would have seen a Special with "Special" under the logo before, but this is the first I've ever seen?!?-Austin
specialk Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Hoo! I like that one. And I have no proof, but I have seen the Special logo on the headstock before, like this one has, so they are around and not rare."Rooster Claw"? I've always called them chicken-head.
sledhead44 Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Hah specialk, I was just writing about the rooster CLAW when your edit posted! Chicken Head or Rooster Head knobs just like on my amp.
mc2 Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 It's probably real because the same seller also has another P90 super clean special listed just a year apart from the yellow one but very similar.I can't believe three Hamer P90 Specials all in one day. there is also a black one listed.
acb Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 seller claims it to be an early 80s special?it's a 93 p90 special - Serial No. 333526
bubs_42 Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Early 90's Specials had "Special" under the Hamer just like the Sunburst did of the same year. It's probly a legit guitar, most likely a thin wide neck profile. Looks like Pups have been changed along witht he Knobs.
Steve Haynie Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 My '92 and '93 Specials say "Special" on their headstocks.
gwayne Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 The white p'up covers look like shit IMO. I may bid on it though.

I'm just surprised that, although I've seen plently Sunbursts of the era with the Sunburst script under the logo, I've never seen one with the Special script under there. -Austin
David B Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 I had around 10 early 90s Specials. They all had that under the logo.
mc2 Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 I woner if it really is "yellow" or just a really yellowed out white? His other one he calls "pea green" looks like the TV Yellow 3 PUP Eclipse I had.

And the pea green looks a lot like TV Yellow as you said. Still some nice Specials there, possibly for a good price.

The 'pea green' looks definitely to me like TV Yellow, I have one and nearly every one I've ever seen (including mine) has a greenish tint to the yellow. It's kinda hard to describe, but I hear the term baby poo green (and it's less delicate variants) a lot in reference. Maybe 'not quite ripe banana' is more accurate. Just to mention, I'd bet that the white/yellow(ed) one has a thin neck, as it has the factory Schaller mini tuners. The TV Yellow/pea green one has factory full-size Schallers and likely has the medium sized mid-90's neck. I've had a couple of both types, and Hamer seemed to make the change (tuner-wise and neck size-wise) sometime in '93. I think that the Special name under the Hamer logo (as seen on the white/yellow one) was pretty common, especially around '92-'93. Why they quit using it on later ones is a mystery to me. Same thing goes with stop-tail Studios from around '94-'96--some have 'Studio' under the Hamer logo, some don't (I have a '96 that does), same thing also on some mid-90's Cruise basses.

tommy p Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 What's with the double auctions lately? This guy too has the same guitar listed twice, 2 hours apart. Once as an early 80's and once as an early 90's model. Exact same description down to the serial number.http://cgi.ebay.com/Early-80s-Hamer-Specia...=item4aa3595ecehttp://cgi.ebay.com/Early-90s-Hamer-Specia...=item4aa3585659
JohnnyThunders Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 All of my specials have the checkerboard logo and say special, they are all 82's.
crunchee Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 All of my specials have the checkerboard logo and say special, they are all 82's. I didn't mention the Specials or Sunbursts from the late '70's-early '80's as I didn't want to cause confusion with the early/mid '90's ones.
