Disturber Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 They played here this Saturday.I didn't go as I saw them in1986 or so, and have not reallylistened to them since then. But a friend who was therethought they played suchstrange guitars. I toldhim they where probablyHamer's.I can never remember whois KK and who is Glenbut is the V guitar inthis video a Hamer?http://www.vh1.com/artists/az/judas_priest/artist.jhtmlScroll down a bit and click on the video link.
formula73 Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 KK's the short dude with the frizzy blond hair. I'm not sure if anyone's figured it out, but last I heard, nobody's been able to figure out exactly who made that V. I do have to say, however, that you're on my shite list for seeing them live when I still haven't.
Hamer95USA Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 Hey formula 73, KK Downing is currently using ESP guitars. I belive it's the Kerry King model made to his specifications. They're shaped like a Gibson Flying V that he's been known for playing onstage. The Hamer guitars that KK used onstage for the past world tours has been retired. I still see Glenn using his Hamer Phantom GT and custom GT models onstage still. Glenn Tipton and KK Downing requested new guitars from Hamer and were turned down, hence their ESP guitars showing up onstage. Guitar George
quik Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 Wow, that's a shame that they've switched from Hamers. A friend of mine had the KK Downing Hamer V years ago, and it was a very nice instrument.
cmatthes Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 GG: Sorry, but your info is a little off - KK is using a custom Vector with a Floyd and GT is using more of his sig models. Hamer built these for them in the last year or so. they approached Hamer and Hamer came through - I've seen the pics! BTMN has some recent tour shots and Phantom GT from the board here could get you the specifics.

They opened for KI$$ and totally mopped up the stage with them. http://rosenauer.dk/photography.php?galler...age=1&filters=t Check out these pics. KK may be an infidel, but Glenn is still flying the Hamer flag high. Priest Lives!
Guest Buck Dharma Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 When they used to be good they played Gibsons. I have the US festival from 1983 and they both are playing Gibsons.

I hear they mopped the floor with EVERYBODY at Ozzfest last year. Hey since KK jumped ship, wanna sell me your (suddenly uncool) Vector? Please?! A Floyd on my little japanese V is cool, but man do I miss my KK(s). I'll even leave the Wyldbil sticker on it! Come on dude!!!!! Edited for spelling. Dammit.
formula73 Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 When they used to be good they played Gibsons. I have the US festival from 1983 and they both are playing Gibsons. ...and the only time I personally think they were NOT good was that Demolition crap. I actually bought that piece of shit.
wyldbil Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 In 1976 Bob Seger didn't "beat" KI$$. Seger got "booed" in my town because the crowd was there for KI$$. KI$$ have generally had weak opening acts intentionally to protect themselves from looking bad. I guess Priest was an exception.BTW- What's wrong with pop? I am pretty much a metalhead, but still enjoy some "poppy" stuff including Cheap Trick, early KI$$, early Beatles and anyone ever heard of The Rubinoos? I LOVE those guys!
Guest Buck Dharma Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 Nothing is wrong with pop. I just honestly don't remember anyone liking Kiss other than twelve year olds. It's just the way I remembered it and probably where I lived and the people I grew up with. I remember everyone listening to the Doors, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Zepp, ACDC, Floyd. So many great bands I don't ever remember anyone liking Kiss or Cheap Trick. I'm not saying they are bad bands and if you like them great nothing wrong with that. I just think allot of younger people think Kiss was some kind of great band the first time around and I don't remember it that way. Great Marketing is more like it.
formula73 Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 Is this what leads to a 'flame war' or is this just a simple arguement? Can't we all be friends? Kiss is adolescent male teen rock but I like 'em anyway. Who's with me?

cmatthes Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 hello I was wondering where I can find a Glenn tipton Hamer custom the radical shaped one(Phantom Gt) I assume well if you know where I can find one please reply thanks you -Michael The Phantom GTs are fairly rare, but do turn up every now and then - here's a shot of a few below: The bizarre Hamer below is NOT a Phantom GT, and none were made for anybody else but Glenn (Hamer GT Custom) starting in 1986 or so (Turbo tour) - you just won't find one of these:
BubbaVO Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 When they used to be good they played Gibsons. I have the US festival from 1983 and they both are playing Gibsons. ...and the only time I personally think they were NOT good was that Demolition crap. I actually bought that piece of shit. That album was weak. But the tour with Ripper Owens was awesome. The boy could sing. And the rest of the guys were there to show that the band was more than just Rob. I've seen them 3 times - 2 huge stadium shows and a smaller venue. I liked the smaller venue best. If you get a chance to see them, go.
kizanski Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 ...you just won't find one of these:Thank Christ!

cmatthes Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 ...you just won't find one of these:Thank Christ!Agreed 1,000 %!! Although in every article I've read where he discusses that one, Glenn T. mentions that is was a purposeful design for "playing ease" or ergonomics, I think that in reality he was either completely off his rocker or else truly wanted a guitar SO UGLY that nobody else would even copy it on their worst day.Ditto for Wyldbil too. He was a good guy.
bubs_42 Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 Thank God, that's that Hamer Company that I know and Love...
