  1. No way in hell he could afford them! If I hired them, I would have no problem paying them. I have one year's backlog of repairs with just me.....If they came aboard I could easily find enough work to keep them busy. That would be great just as long as it doesnt go something like this: (I hope this links to the 3:05 point in this video) EDIT: It doesnt so you need to forward to 3:05 directly
  2. I'm no snob.I like any good guitar no matter where its made. From the sound of it you found one you really like. Why not go with what your woman's intuition tells you and buy it or one like it. Go get it and enjoy it. What the components are or where it is made shouldn't change how much you liked it. This thread can't and shouldn't do anything to change how you feel. Subject covered in my opinion and it took way to long to get here.
  3. Love this idea. Can't wait to play it and think of Bill while doing so.
  4. Thanks for all the comments. I did reinforce the doors jams with 36" of 1/8th in steel so the door will have to splinter before anyone kicks them in right after it happened so good there. Recommend everyone on this forum does that cause if you havent locks are useless. The thieves came in thru a pried open basement window within 14 days of the first burglary we had replaced all 9 with steel reinforced glassblock. Feeling pretty secure but I am planning on doing cameras as well but having trouble finding any good ones that upload directly to internet for a price one would consider reasonable. After bring this up again someone contacted me with expert knowledge of this process. I am going to present the documented f-ups of this detective to his superior asking for my case to be reassigned. I'll go to chief if nothing happens with a message that the incompetence in this case is blatant to the point that anyone can see it and next stop is the media if they dont react. We'll see if that helps. Insurance came thru but I still was out almost 5000 due to deductibles and not claiming first and smaller of the two losses. At this point I just want the bastards that did it caught, charged and prosecuted. Unfortunately the detective has done multiple things that likely have killed the case. ie. showing picture of one guy to witnesses and saying is this the guy? TWICE ! Having me send the picture to witnesses to find out (hearsay) really???????? ugh.
  5. I mentioned the federal wire fraud thing and I almost felt the spit from his laugh come thru the phone line.
  6. So, I have an update sorry to bring this back up but I need some advice. The thieves havent been charged but I am told they are making a case whatever. The police department continues to not impress. However... I had installed Prey which is tracking software on my daughters 2011 imac that was one of the items stolen. 3 months in and nothing, then last week it started phoning home, sending pictures, screen shots, and tracking information to his home ip and all wireless networks in range so its mapped to the home pretty much. I also have the guy who has the imacs real name and gmail google + ids, Here's the thing though, Its in California so suspect the thieves ebayed it. The guy who has it looks like a straight cut student and not shady although I see from screen shots he cruises the back page a bit for tranny escorts. So I send the detective on the case all the information and he calls me and basically it goes like this: Me: I tracked my daughters iMac and I have the ip, name of the guy, etc... Detective: "yeah, you probably arent going to get the computer back as he probably bought it on ebay not knowing its stolen" Me: Unfortunately thats his problem right and the police can go get it back. Detective: He'll just say that he bought it off ebay not knowing its stolen. Me: ???? Its Still mine though and I have proof. If he did buy it off ebay that might point back to a seller here in MN which might be the suspects. Detective: who knows (clearly not interested) I can send the police a letter (a letter? Really?) to see what they will do but I dont think they will do anything. It pretty much continued like this for another 5 minutes of him telling me how even though I know where my stolen property is and can prove it Im not getting it back. Really? The kid who has it seems like he is innocent (maybe a little kinky) but decent as I see from screenshots hes usually watching cartoons, doing homework or the occassional browsing of escorts. That said I dont want to just gift him my perfect condition 2011 imac. Anyone have any experience with this? What should I do? I need advice.
  7. Have you tried any of the Apple means to track your devices? http://www.apple.com/icloud/find-my-iphone.html Not sure if the Galaxy has that too. I'd guess that the jerks who got your kid's phone looked at his GPS history, maybe found some pics of your gear and other valuables at home, and put two and two together. You could also try your cell phone provider or ISP, they might be able to discover something. Good luck! MarkB I actually installed prey on my daughters machine after the first incident. its supposed to take pictures and the same but the problem with all of them is that they need to connect to the internet to be triggered. At this point nothing, I think that the criminals are smarter than that at this point unfortunately.
  8. Thanks for all the words of support guys. I really appreciate it.
  9. There could be a relation but nothing so far that the police are able to connect much less follow up on. It's hard, I believe they are over worked, and over burdened I was told 6 policemen on duty at a time in our precinct. 2 per car which equals 3 cars for at least 10 sq miles in my estimation. As such I am awake for yet another night past 3 am watching. It sucks. I will remain vigilant and protect my family if they come after us again. It does seem to be targeted, I truly hope that is not the case. Sorry for sounding melodramatic but I am concerned as I think anyone would be when people have come into their home in such a manner. It just really sucks that people that would do something like this with the thought that their motivation could be even greater than material gain. Frankly it's scary as hell not so much for me but that it could get even worse for my wife, my son and my daughter. I just don't get why some people would do that. Sucks, but there are people worse off than me in this world and my problems pale in comparison so I can feel lucky in that regard. It's just stuff after all. Still sucks and a bit scary I will admit.
  10. I want to thank Carfish for this one and admit that I am the friend he was talking about. Its been a hard 3 weeks here at our house. This story is probably one for the outer circle but in that time my son was jumped by 6 kids outside a football game and they while the didnt get his bike for holding on for deal life they went in his pockets while kicking him and punching him on the ground and grabbed his samsung galaxy s III. The feeling of having your child having to deal with that is very hard and I was on edge for a while A week and a half later our house was broken into and they grabbed the small stuff. ipads, money, etc. Pretty much all you could carry in a back pack. I took precautions immediately and started securing the doors with new locks and 3 foot steel bars in the door jams and stayed home from work the rest of that week knowing they they had seen what was there. Feeling better I went to work this morning and got a call from my wife who was in tears saying they broke in and got your guitars. 7 gone in all along with almost everything else of value in the house. imac, home server, hard drives you name it. They had pried open a basement window. I have since screwed all of them shut. 3 police reports later its hard to keep my chin up right now but everyone is ok and things are replaceable. I live in a great neighborhood and am not going anywhere. Still insurance is saying 2500 deductible PER incident so its a hard hit. I so very much appreciate the real friends I have here.
  11. Wow this is great information and really helping or hurting my decision for getting a Dean. I still think they are super cool and want one but sounds like finding a good one can be like navigating treacherous waters. Cadillac with V shaped neck might be hard to find.
  12. That's a bummer Steve, I bet if it were a birdseye maple neck you'd never have had a problem with it.
  13. Thanks everyone for answering all my questions. Great having a panel of experts right that at my disposal. I am surprised Gene hasnt chimed in yet. I thought he would be first! ha! So does the V neck profile exist anymore or only on the older stuff. I can deal with the other shapes but its my favorite and would be nice to get that.
  14. Tombo, Robbie and I all grew up in St. Peter. I'm pretty sure it was called Parker Music but could be misremembering. It was on the back side eastern end of Madison East Shopping Center. There was a guy who worked there I think named Paul Gurerro or something and while I never saw them the story was that he and his brother bother bought Standard customs in reverse finished from each other Matching Lita fords salt and pepper. I remember Browns had a story in New Ulm but didnt think it was in Mankato
  15. Can you give me the low down on these? How do they differ from the other imports and where do they fall quality wise from the usa stuff? Are they still sold new? Having a hard time understanding that.
  16. Ah, I registered and now I see the fs forum. Not a lot there that was of interest. I am completely not into the razor back or dime stuff. A black import looks nice but are they? Like I said as long as the thing is solid I've been cool with one.
  17. Dean along with Hamer were my absolute favorite brands back when I first got into guitar in about '79. The closest music store to me was Parker Music in Mankato MN and they sold both. However, Dean was probably the first brand I remember due to an article on Dean Z in a People magazine (?) that my grandma had out at their farm. I must have read it about a 100 times mostly for the photo of Dean with an Z or maybe and ML in hand. I immediately was hooked on that head stock. Totally Iconic. Once I got to play one I loved the v shaped neck strangely though, I have never owned a Dean. Thinking I should rectify it with a Cadillac and maybe a V in the classic configuration as in 79-81 I know there are many on the board close in age and with similar Hamer/Dean stories so expect there is a ton of knowledge here. So this is where you guys come in. If a guy were going to shop for a Dean where do you look? Ebay sucks and the dean forum doesn't have a for sale board. Secondly, I know there are many permutation from original usa chicago build to Czech to Korean to US Masters and I expect Chinese built. The look is the main thing for me. I am not afraid of imports. If its a good guitar its a good guitar and hardware and pickups are easy upgrades. I saw the 79 series at namm with Cmatthes one year and they seemed decent. What would you look for?
  18. If these will fit a G&L USA Legacy I will take them Do you know off hand if that is the case? I can do some research tonight when I get home if not.
  19. Hey Steve, I pre-ordered. Just to clarify I can send to you for signage and you will forward on to, Jol and Paul for additional signatures if I pay for the round trip postage? Ted
  20. I believe that was the modern vintage ad campaign time frame no? Likely I think as one of the best they ever did and had to sell some guitars. I could also walk in to Willies here in St. Paul and buy my choice of a special (2) p90, t-51 or daytona for $650 at that time. Btw, I love the analytics! Nice work.
  21. He said in the interview I did with him long ago that is on the site that he once wanted to buy part of Hamer.
  22. Is there really a chance that a Hamer USA Special could be created and sold in the $9xx-ish range (factory direct) if some of the parts of the process were farmed out? I think that the most recent prices where the biggest barrier in creating a new following or those of us here buying new and something like that would attract a lot of buyers just like it did when I was young. A high school kid with a pizza delivery job could buy one with out spending everything he made for the year. recently, not so much. Re: Endorsers Besides Kev for the metaller, I would look to hard touring young people influenced by older music that Hamer was affiliated with. Particularly someone like the Kurt Baker Band. http://youtu.be/OrO8LB4qy_A
  23. Well you are a whole lot of fun aren't you.
  24. I should add no carved tops out of the gate except on special order as they are labor intensive.
