  1. Obviously very pretty. Good singer. Descent guitar player. She is 17, give her a chance to find her artistic voice. I hope she does. Or, maybe she is an "internet" fraud. Already has a record company backing, band, original compositions, etc. And, is carefully building a "buzz" so she can be an interesting story when she breaks. And when she does, will be playing mass consumption pop like call me maybe. Google her - she has a fair amount of buzz etc. out there.
  2. In your band, you have very specific requirements for the keyboard player. Sounds like this metal band is the same, and they are probably doing the right thing. In the mid 2000s my then-band was looking for a keyboard player like you describe. We went through about 15 before we found the right one. We advertised EXACTLY what we were looking for and auditioned 14 who read that description, knew they didn't meet it, but auditioned away, 'just because.' We wasted so much time on that experience we almost gave up before No. 15 vindicated our efforts. It was especially burdensome on me, since I wasted a 2-hour round trip every time we auditioned the wrong guy. This metal band has very specific needs and in their ad they hope to weed out those who they pretty much know won't make the cut. They might annoy a few who might otherwise be good candidates, but I wouldn't fault them for their approach. The more general description they provide, the more likely they'll waste their time on the wrong guys. Right. I see that. That's why I went full disclosure on the expectations for the keyboard player in the current project I'm involved with. So, I can see it as the same thing in looking for a sound which is fine. I don't have any experience with Line6 gear, so I don't know if it has a specific sound that needs to be avoided. I thought it was modeling stuff, so it might work for a lot of things. I think going for image if fine too. Maybe "guitar must be flying V, explorer, or similar" seems fine. But saying, guitar must be Hamer Standard seems too picky (as much as I know all of you would love to put that / see that in your ads).
  3. I was kind of thinking that might be it, or in fact, targeting a specific player they know and don't want to respond to the add?
  4. From my local musicians craigslist. "I'm are looking for guys that are looking to play progressive deathmetal/deathcore and similar technical genres. Bands like Between the buried and me, Veil of Maya, The Faceless, The Black Dahlia Murder, Darkest hour, Periphery, Carnifex, Born of Osiris, August Burns Red. If your into AX7, Trivium, Tool or use a Line 6 half stack please don't response." So, from a practical point of view, I suspect there are many players that could play the aforementioned bands type of sound on a Line 6 half stack (though maybe I am wrong). So, it is a stupid CL seeking players add. On the other hand, in my current band project we got a keys player, and we want to restrict him to B3, Rhodes, Piano, Electric Piano, and similar (no "synthy" sounds) specifically for the sound the leader is going for (though he plays it on a Roland synth). Also, look and image do matter, so maybe Line 6 just looks wrong (though I wonder how many in attendance know or care about the gear one is using). Just curios about your thoughts.
  5. I love this place, and the nerds that frequent it.
  6. I used to own this Carvin. It is a fantastic guitar.
  7. Yes they should be named after race tracks. what's up w/ companies making a sexy product like an electric guitar and then naming it like its an air filter? ibanez is bad about that too, my newer guitar is called something like RGEX$@#EHFM...
  8. I had a DC400A Walnut. It was a fantastic guitar. It had a Holdsworth headstock, P-Rails, and jumbo SS frets. Played fantastic. Very comfortable body with the rounded edges. Played very balanced. It had a Wilkinson which I didn't like. The switching in the P-Rails didn't really seem to do much in either passive or active mode. I sold it because I needed to get rid of some guitars and I didn't like the Wilkinson. If it had a TOM on it, I'd have kept it - probably. Always felt like the PU switching/tapping should have had a more dramatic change. It was all wired correctly. Maybe it was the fundamental of the neck through blasting through everything. Great funky cleans in spite of its shredder heritage. I have a Carvin 6 string fretless bass. Fantastic guitar. Great mwah. Good pickups. It is natural finished and has a really classic, subtle look. I don't know why folks don't like them. I am not a very boutique guy. And I think in many ways, Carvins' are anti-boutique. I think one reason folks don't like them is they marketed in the "if you can't afford what you want, get a Carvin for less" type of position for many years. I think the new basses Carvin sells may be changing that as folks now get Carvins to get those particular models (SB and Icon).
  9. He's wrong - I practice more than I bitch, and I still suck at guitar.
  10. I know I ordered a copy - a long time ago - from someone other than Amazon. I can't remember who I ordered it from. For those of you receiving your copies, who are you getting them from? Then, I have to figure out who I ordered it from. I don't think I have that credit card any more either. I'll have to figure out if I ever got billed for it.
  11. That is really excellent playing, tone chasing, and production. A few thoughts. Zen needs to stop doing equipment demos and start doing song demos - he needs a bigger stage than the audience of nerds (and I mean that in the nicest way) agonizing over which PU to put in their guitar. I don't know what the compensation is, but that video is worth a pretty good chunk of change to SD. As the audience of nerds agonizing over which PU to put in their guitar do make decisions from you tube videos. I know this first hand - for better or worse.
  12. This guitar (same model, that is someone else's pic) is on sale for $350 local to me. It is Korean with some minor play wear/gold tarnish but looks in very good overall shape. I have handled it but I haven't played it. And I don't know if it has a case. It is at a pawn shop so they might deal. If anyone wants it, I could help. Let me know.
  13. How many of them play out? I'm gonna guess almost zero. Not that there is anything wrong with that.
  14. Seems like a good deal http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showthread.php?t=1254219&highlight=hamer I guess the refret is killing the resale price?
  15. Was on work travel near Destin, Florida this week, snuck out and saw this guy http://zackrosicka.com/music.html at a little random place - very solid.
  16. Hmm. A crap guitar that can't be tuned, or buzzes, or has dead spots, or is a tone suck in general won't be helped by a good pickup. I'd order them 1. guitar, 2. amp, 3. pickup. 0. player 1. guitar 2. amp 3. pickup 4. pedal Problem is, my player is very expensive (trust me, lots of $ invested in the player in my case, and still requires regular and expensive up keep). But my player doesn't sound very good. Thus, the sound coming from my good guitar, moderate amp, and descent pedals, sounds crappy.
  17. Is she a computer? Reminds me of 2001 - I'm afraid I can do that (custom build) Dave.
  18. That guitar was neon pink hence the price it got. Oh - I'm not a sophisticated guitar trader/appraiser.
  19. Thanks all. Perhaps my faith in human kind needs a boost: I shouldn't be so suspicious. I won't pull the trigger, err - as I don't want to. But I think $1200 isn't bad. The '88 red mint SS1 with rosewood, dots, and 24 frets went for $1580 a couple of months back.
  20. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hamer-USA-1985-Steve-Stevens-I-Guitar-Near-Mint-/171012681917?pt=Guitar&hash=item27d12670bd Wow. It looks too good to be true. In fact, I think it is. It should have some checking. That looks like poly (ester? urethane? I don't know) And the trem spring cover seems wrong. Anyone want to weigh in, or drop $1200.
