  1. There were differing stories depending upon the people interviewed that were there. The point of the book was to be historically accurate, faithfully discuss the models and put correct information out there. It was never going to be a “he said-he said-they said” kind of deal. I’ll leave it at there are several differences of opinion. There was also a considerable amount of completed, well-researched and written material that the publisher cut. Oh. And don’t even THINK of starting this “5-digit” bullshit!
  2. No. I bought mine for $550 shipped from Canada after a guy had it for a month and realized he couldn’t bond with the shape. They were $649 new, and $799 on Joe Bonamassa’s merch site (link still exists), but his came with a “hand-signed certificate of authenticity”. Some sellers may have asked those prices a year or two ago, but they usually sell on Reverb for @$1,200 or so. I was honestly expecting these new Epis to be in the $750-$800 range when a few pics got leaked online last summer, but this is just silly. I strongly suspect that these will end up like the Epiphone Korina Vs and Standards they released last summer for $1,299. After the first batch got snatched up by the PreOrder Fanbois, I’ve seen many dozens sitting for 6-8 months unsold, and dealers dropping the prices to well below $1,000 for those. I suspect we’ll see something similar here. Mine is honestly a great guitar…especially for an Epiphone, but it’s no Gibson.
  3. This one has been discussed several times - it’s one from the Willcutt run and the Kahler was added aftermarket. The price is definitely in meth-head range, by nearly double…or more.
  4. Very rarely, since there were maybe a dozen built total. A few HFC members got to pick out their tops at the New Hartford shop that October, and there were a couple of quilt tops available.
  5. Not neck through, stripped, added brass nut, no serial number and a lot of changed parts. Seems like a stretch for $1k, personally, but if somebody wants a beater, that might do it for them.
  6. Right - the Duff rumor was from a clickbait article. I saw Chris with Jane’s Addiction last year. I could see that…
  7. Those were the SB-77 Models. There were maybe a dozen made as I recall, and they were available to order at HFC 2 or 3 (1999-2000). The Sustainblocks were gold NOS that were leftover from the very late 80s/early 90s, and per Kim Keller, the production was limited to the number of bridges in the box that were still usable and without pitting. These were closer to an ‘89-early ‘91 flat top Sunburst than an actual ‘70s model (bridge placement, headstock, etc.), but every one I’ve played was a fantastic guitar!
  8. Phil Jacoby is an ass. Don’t waste your time. Steve Parker (Parklane Guitars in NJ) is the old Musikraft fret and neck guy. Some of the best fretwork I’ve ever encountered. Shane Huss is also incredibly talented and reasonable. He’s in PA.
  9. Those aren’t original Hamer serial numbers. The font and spacing is wrong, and they were likely redone afterwards by whoever did the clear refin. The legit ones were inked over the original finish during that era.
  10. Doesn’t look like a scam to me. Profile seems legit. Refin, almost all original parts have been changed, replacement case, but not a terrible deal.
  11. I believe Peter is consigning some of his guitars through them (unless he sold those to them directly?).
  12. That would have been from the Talladega run.
