  1. Now THAT'S a color that looks badass with gold hardware. Sweet package. Very sweet.
  2. If you take the tone controls and roll them back just a touch (especially on the neck pickup), you can get into that milky LP zone pretty easily. Especially in distortion/overdrive situations.
  3. That's the way I played mine/serial's. Bro Chris is right. Ted McCarty said in interviews before his death that the Flying V/Explorer/Moderne designs Gibson unveiled in the late 50s were primarily created to show Gibson's push towards the more futuristic. Seems I remember he was sick of the guys at Fender calling Gibson's products dated, so he showed up with the exotic shapes at NAMM or whatever it was called back then to shut them up. I'd say the classical playing position was more likely an afterthought, or a pleasant accident
  4. Matt, my personal opinion, PRS guitars are overpriced for what you get. They are well made overall, but I've only played two that really impressed me from a tone standpoint plugged in and I'm convinced they were just "special" ones, because I've TRIED to like PRS guitars, I really have. Nice acoustically across the board, but running tape doesn't capture pretty tops and the PRS electronics packages don't cut it IMHO. The best PRS I've ever played was one that Poe had a few years ago, and if I would have had the money to buy it when he was selling it, the first thing I would have done was gut the thing electronically and put something in it that wasn't trying to be everything electric and just focused on helping that specific guitar do what it was capable of doing. Every Vector I've played kicked ass in all aspects.
  5. I sold mine to serial and still regret it at times. Incredible guitars. IMHO worth $2K and then some, considering the crap Gibson, PRS and the like offer for similar bones.
  6. I'll echoplex mrhappy's suggestion. If he surprises you with access to both, opt for analog since you are a traditional blues band.
  7. Bubba's home. That's all that matters. You guys are a family again. Ex-wife will always be a case study in stoopidity, and she's proved she's the queen of The Province of Numbskullia again. Riding out Cat 5 Katrina in Gulfport...that's like Poe saying his new diet is a just a dozen Krispy Kremes per meal chased with milkshakes and Gumbo Shop takeout for dessert.
  8. serial, I heard recently that Buckcherry was trying to put it back together. May want to Google it.
  9. Similar to the ambulance gang in "Cannonball Run," except it would be more appropriate to call the sequel "Goofball Run" if the three of us are behind the wheel.
  10. Great news, Mark! Can we still hot-wire the ambulance when we find one, just for the helluvit?
  11. Believe me, gang, if there was any way me, CB and fooder could go physically look for his son and wife, we would. But access to the damaged areas are closed off to EVERYONE except emergency personnel. Hot-wiring an ambulance is out of the question too - we already thought of that. Most of them are behind the damage lines already.
  12. It doesn't matter which one you chose in the end. You will still sound like yourself, be it good or bad. After about a month, it will just be your amp and you will wonder what all the fuss was about. Zactly. And Poe, have you considered hooking Fargen and Schlabotnik up for lunch one day, just to see where the creative minds might drift?
  13. I know they're not Hamers, but for real 80s metal tone, consider adding one or more of something like these to your arsenal... Like a San Dimas-era Charvel... Or one of the mad graphic creations of GMW Guitarworks... Or something from Wayne Charvel's new company, Wayne Guitars... Here's my personal 80s metal nightmare...an '88 Jackson Dinky strat. * images courtesy of the forum participants at www.usacharvels.com *
  14. The original Boss OD-1 and SD-1 pedals will boost those Marshalls real nice as well. Another vote for that route. That's what I do for that sound. Extra edge and icy harmonics galore.
  15. Yup, serial, that's one special V and I'm glad you're putting it to good use. Your assessment of it is dead on the money. I don't know what type of pickups it has, but I probably spilled a beer or two on them. Funny...I received that guitar from Poe exactly one year ago today. July 7, 2004, the day my daughter Ally was born.
  16. We've had a vacancy at my office for several months and then my boss retired last week, so I'm doing three people's work for the time being. I will consider getting to go home from work my vacation this summer.
  17. If the date chosen is Aug. 13, I've got a three hour layover at the Seattle airport from 1 to 4 p.m. tied to a business trip. I can pack some fresh crawfish, alligator sauce piquante and Cajun andouille sausage in my carry-on luggage, should someone want to make a quick road trip to meet up, down a beer or seven in the terminal on my dime and spice up the BBQ for the rest of the gang later in the day.
  18. The GC in NOLA recently had a reissue like that priced out around $5 or $6K IIRC.
  19. That sucks. All our wishes for a full get well.
  20. I've got a compilation CD called "Pure Funk" that I love to spin when I'm working in the kitchen. Another kitchen spinner - James Brown's "Live At The Apollo" from the 60s. I guess you could call my 80s metal a guilty pleasure. Listened to Exodus on the way to work today - I just got turned on to them recently by my drummer and I can't believe I missed them back in the day. They sound a lot like Testament (another Bay Area thrash band) with Udo from Accept on vocals. Oh yeah, and I've was spinning some Duran Duran recently. Love that band, they were so underrated in my opinion.
  21. Supagroup's from New Orleans. They have a great following. My vote is for Comes With The Fall ... www.comeswiththefall.com
  22. Desitin tastes like shit! .......... FYI Straight from the tube, or second-hand? LOL!
  23. I say don't refin unless you supplement the new graphic with nekkid girl pix and pledge to post before/after photos on the OC.
