  1. Somehow, through all of the the ups and downs of the past decade, I've managed to hang onto 2 of my 3 Hamer USA Standards. Sold the one on the far left just a couple of months ago to a lovely fellow in Iowa.
  2. Hey Ben - The closest thing I have in my stables is a lovely Rahbek Standard w/ Wilkinson trem, Kinman single coils and a DiMarzio humbucker. Very similar body style to the MM Luke and nearly identical headstock design. This one is a recent acquisition and has fast become one of my favourite guitars. Unfortunately, it's going to remain for a while longer. That said, with these having been made in Denmark, odds are you'd be much more likely to find one in the UK than I was here in North America.
  3. I have an Artisan 15H and it's an INCREDIBLE amplifier and loud! Artisan series are all hand-wired, point-to-point using high quality components and excellent craftsmanship. A couple weeks ago, I took mine to my amp guy who discovered that the output tube bias set at the factory was set super-hot. I don't fancy replacing output tubes every other week so, with a resistor swap and correct biasing, the problem was fixed and now, this thing sounds better than ever. Really, it's amazing to me just how undervalued these Artisan's are by the wider public. Congrats to the buyer - they got a world class tube amp combo at an incredible price.
  4. Reasonable price, too. Comparable to what I sold my '92 B12s for a couple months back.
  5. That's ok. Any problem that might have existed is now looooooong gone; replaced by the satisfaction of working out a mutually agreeable deal with someone who "gets it". I'm very happy to report that this lovely guitar has been repatriated and is going to a good home in Iowa. The buyer is a gigging musician and although he has a lot of other excellent guitars, this will be his first Hamer USA and one hell of an introduction to these fine instruments, if I do say so myself. Couldn't be happier with how this all turned out. Thanks to everyone on this thread who shared their thoughts, comments, and interest.
  6. Right!??? Of the 100 or so guitars I've either imported or shipped to the US, this was the first time I'd ever heard of this. Not that anyone needs another reason not to ship internationally by UPS, but for those keeping score... one more reason to avoid shipping 'spensy guitars internationally by UPS.
  7. What's it to me? Hmmm.... First off, no duty was owed due to the guitar being manufactured in the US. Only taxes were owed and because the sale was through Reverb, he'd already paid the taxes. US Customs requested his tax id number (not UPS) and if he'd provided it to them, the guitar would have been delivered to him, end of story. But because he reneged on his obligations it meant the guitar would not be allowed to move past the port of entry, the sale price (less restocking fee) would need to be refunded, and the guitar shipped back. All because he didn't want to provide his tax id number. However, as an incentive, I insured the guitar out of my own pocket and that was a $250 hit that would not be refunded. Furthermore, the guitar ended up being held by US Customs for a full month before finally being released to the return shipper (UPS) meaning, any potential sales were put on-hold until the guitar was back in my possession. I ship guitars so that they're packed solidly for transport and thankfully, when it arrived back it arrived in perfect condition. Still, that month in limbo was a real nail biter. UPS customer service had no idea where the guitar was and even went so far as to suggest I make a total loss claim.
  8. I found out about this one through Heritage Auctions. It was formerly owned by Rick Derringer. I didn’t buy it because of its history, rather, it ticks off all the boxes that I consider when thinking about what my ideal guitar might be. Heritage have had some very interesting guitar auctions over the last few months and on occasion, a few nice Hamer’s have popped up as well. You can set up an online profile/account and select any auctions that strike your interest. Just be sure to factor in the 25% buyers premium and shipping/taxes when making any bids. I also snagged this one… an 80’s ESP 400 Series Strat with a lovely set of Bill Lawrence pickups and a ‘63 Strat case.
  9. I’m expecting a Rahbek Standard to be shipped to me from TX sometime in the next couple of weeks. I’ve specifically requested USPS / Canada Post as the shipper to avoid the brokerage fee hassles and customs delays UPS are so fond of inflicting. It’s got a Brazilian fretboard so here’s hoping all will be well.
  10. Hey, all - Curious if anyone might know a little (or a lot) about Rahbek Guitars? What's your experience been with them?
