  1. I recall earlier hearing a green one will emerge. and it will drive me insane.
  2. SSSSSSSHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEETTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT.. I don't have enough underwear to endure this!!!!!!!!
  3. Wow!!!. That subtle blue burst is amazing!
  4. Is the 'waist' narrower on the Ultimate (compared to a Standard)? It almost looks as if someone grabbed both points and pulled. Not much, but enough that it looks.......different. In a good way, like it's a slimmer, trimmer Standard. agree.. looking at the comparison pic the waist appears a tiny bit more narrow.. or perhaps it's just a bit more sharp and tight in the angle of the waist which makes for the trimmer look. definitely not the same look if I cinch up my belt a notch or 2. in any case, that is one cool Ultimate. (like all of them!!!)
  5. Sad sad day. New, old , custom.. the Hamers I'm fortunate to own are all examples of incredible craftsmanship. Best of luck moving forward.
  6. cool. looking forward to seeing this one !
  7. just playing around for an idea... on an artist custom of course..
  8. I'm truly flattered, but part of why I ordered this custom was to create a "one of" from Hamer. BCR Greg and Hamer helped me and put up with all my pictures, mockups, questions and helped bring this thing together. Part of its uniqueness is its color and its name. I'd like to keep it that way. Any other green burst? no problemo. there's plentyo room in the green spectrum. would just like to keep "gator burst" a one and only. work with your dealer.. they'll be glad to help you create something cool and unique. what happened with that bright yellow to orange burst idea..? btw no offense meant to you or anyone here..
  9. I did the mock-ups myself. As for the wood, I specifically requested an oddball type of top.. some figuring that resembled lizard or gator skin. i.e. something that could pull off the gator thing. I said I was willing to wait.. and I did. Finally a piece came around and they passed it by me to see if it would fit the bill. I liked. It was worth the wait.
  10. april. cajun jam and zoo. you can maybe pet it.
  11. stay involved and keep askin. great idea you have there! and thanks for the cool words.. from concept to certification, the gator standard project was rewarding in so many ways.... "naming" the color wasn't a showstopper for me, in fact this was something I really didn't ask. still I had an ear to ear grin when I saw it on the cert.. and the name has sorta stuck. here's a bit of the gator standard legacy and my involvement. my early mockups my mockup swatches physical sample swatches from the masters at Hamer top selection the reward
  12. 79 Sunburst.. courtesy of a pawn shop run a few years ago by CB and Jeffro. it's a gem..
  13. I have to agree that will definitely catch your eye, and wouldn't mind havin a round with it. I guess the headstock does go with the arrow-of-fire theme thing, assuming a black tipped arrow that is. also nice to see something a bit more radical, but you'd think that thing would have a floyd. I'd really prefer for someone to dream about a realdeal reverse Korina FB.. hell, even a mahog one with P90s!
  14. earlier this week, a good friend of mine drove in from Houston. We both went to a local luthier (Tim Lawson) who specializes in restoration and repairs. He does excellent work and helps out many of musicians in the New Orleans / Baton Rouge areas. Our visit was to pick up a restored 53 Gibson Archtop that had been in my friend's family. The restoration was beyond my friend's expectation.. Carefully restored, not refinished. I sat and played it for quite a bit and lusted for it myself. but that guitar is another story. we hung out in the shop for a bit and we learned that they were back logged like crazy with repairs for Katrina damaged guitars, all prized by their owners. Mostly flood damaged, they are carefully monitoring the moisture content in these guitars during a cautious drying process. Tims is an authorized repair shop for several reputable guitar makers. But with the recent practices from Gibson, not carrying a $$$$$ inventory has also meant that they now also cannot obtain Gibson parts (outside of the shrinkwrapped general parts stuff). That's been another recent fallout of Gibson's practices. I'm sure they will locate the necessary parts for their repairs and restorations, but that just chaps my ass. As someone still with a busted ass house from Katrina, that Toxi Burst whatever rubs me the wrong way. Me no likey.
  15. that's friggin amazing! (and a great factoid! thanks Chris!) SALUT!
  16. while on jug duty I was thumbing thru the latest Hamer catalog. I'm glad they concentrate on making kick ass guitars rather than counting correctly. from the catalog... ... The Hamer Improv features a Honduras Mahogany body with an arched back, bound front and back with a 5-ply multi-stripe Ivoroid binding. ... my impression is that each inner black or white stripe is not layered separately, but rather as one or more "multi stripe" layers.. Here's a link w/ some examples Example Bindings - scroll to bottom for illustrations maybe I'm wrong... anyone see this stuff laying around at the factory?
  17. any of the troll battles the first "vortex" thread on the new forum. the collection of standard replies to guitar porn... my fav? Me Likey, or Me No Likey
  18. aztec gold on spruce is friggin cool.. that'll look sweet.
  19. is each "ply" (black or white) applied individually?? or is the inside binding composed of multi-ply material??????
  20. that's what I'm needing to hear as my eyes are definitely on tortoise. I'd like to think whatever issues may have existed are now corrected. BTW that newport of your's is super fine! congrats again. Chris, thumbs up on that back binding! I noted it in the pic you have w/in the fall quilt thread. I think that rocks.
  21. geez those pics are driving me crazy..! Jeffro, I actually have the DVD and watched it (again) last weekend.. quite motivational if you have the gas.
  22. I've been gassin for another custom and I'm leaning towards darker binding (i.e. Tort or Black). Hamer touts its ivoroid as high caliber binding, and it appears to have worked extremely well over the long haul for them. What about the non-Ivoroid offerings? Is the base material or properties different? Are they more/less prone to shrinkage/changes with the guitar? Easier/harder to apply? I recall a few posts about tortoise binding. Were those isolated? Could those shortcomings have occurred with Ivoroid just as well? Just trying to figure out if there's something inherently different between Ivoroid and the other choices.
