  1. They are. Latest album, "Heavy Hymnal", just came out a few months ago.
  2. There's a guy named Dick Black? I thought Dick Black was just that stuff you used to cut down on glare, like baseball players do.
  3. And they change their set list up. Yeah, you know there's a chunk of songs you'll get at every show, but tour to tour, they mix things up. I don't remember the song (because I don't know the deep catalog all that well), but a couple of years ago after a JP show, my buddy said, "Wow - I never thought I'd get to hear (insert that song) live again."
  4. "Think big, boys. We can open for the Doors on their 10th anniversary tour, Jimi on his 20th anniversary tour..."
  5. Universal Audio is making their LA-2A Tube Compressor plug-in free until Oct. 31. No UA hardware needed. https://www.uaudio.com/uad-plugins/compressors-limiters/teletronix-la-2a-tube-compressor.html
  6. BFD has released a free version of its BFD drum plug-in called BFD Player. It's 5GB, with several kits and a bunch of MIDI grooves. And there are a couple expansion kits (for a fee). https://www.bfddrums.com/drum-software/bfd-player.html
  7. The other musical guests were the cast from "Oliver!", Georgia Brown, and Tessie O'Shea. Here's the rundown from the DVD: Beatles - "All My Loving" Beatles - "Till There Was You" Beatles - "She Loves You" Magician Fred Kaps The Cast Of "Oliver!" - "I'll Do Anything For You" Georgia Brown - "As Long As He Needs Me" (from "Oliver!") Comedian Frank Gorshin Terry McDermott Tessie O'Shea - Show tunes medley Comedians McCall & Brill Beatles - "I Saw Her Standing There" Beatles - "I Want To Hold Your Hand" Acrobats Wells & The Four Fays
  8. Not necessarily. Especially for bigger shows, the click can be used to sync lighting and effects to the music. Dethklok uses a click to sync to the animation videos, and I don't think any of us would question Gene Hoglan's ability to keep a groove - he's not called the Atomic Clock for nothing. I agree, though, it can take away from the flow - or more accurately, the ability to change on a dime if the moment takes you in a different direction - especially if you're completely married to the click. It takes away the opportunity for the music to breathe at any given time. I can see using the click to start the song, but to have it throughout the entire song would not be fun.
  9. You can't hear Vince, so it's not all bad.
  10. DigiTech Trio, or if you have a computer there, EZ Bass from Toontrack. W/EZ Bass, you can essentially program songs if you want. No experience with it, but it sounds like the Trio will respond to what you're playing. EZ Bass I believe does something similar, but I don't know if it does it on the fly (no experience w/EZ Bass, but EZ Drummer 3 does it and isn't horrible at it).
  11. Well, yeah, no wonder with that attitude. EDIT: Sorry, just saw 'voice' at the end of that sentence. 😉
  12. I usually just chuckle at them, but no shame, dude!
  13. My kids asked me a week or so ago if I would help them get tickets to see someone named NF (he's apparently the hot young rapper these days). They don't do this very often, and I'm laid off, so why not. They picked three cities, and you had to register for the presale (only one city, though). So I registered and forgot all about it until I got an e-mail yesterday that I was selected to participate. So we did some negotiating about prices, operating blindly because we had no idea what prices were. Saw some people complaining that his tix had gone way up (well, yeah, because he's playing arenas now). We determined what their top price was, and I told my wife I'd cover $25-40-ish above that because they don't do this a lot. As it turns out, it was all for naught - the show is a Wednesday, and my daughter decided she didn't like him enough to burn the vacation time to come home. She texted me when she got up this morning and said no need to bother. I bothered. At this point it was a challenge. Or should have been - as it turns out, the tix didn't fly out the door. Lower bowl only, and prices were surprisingly good - $47-105. And they had not started the platinum bullshit yet (it's started since I quit). Nice to see a much more affordable experience available.
  14. My buddy had tix for Frank Marino pre-Covid. I was supposed to be out of town, so I wasn't going. Then my thing got canceled, so I was going, then Frank had his health issue and retired from touring. So I'll probably never get to see him. And I wanted to see Robert Schimmel one year and my wife said, "Eh, we saw him last year, let's skip it." So I did. And a few months later he had his car accident and died. But the one I regret is leaving the SRV/Jeff Beck show early (SRV headlined) because I wasn't feeling well, and I said, "I've seen him four or five times, and Stevie's clean now, so I'll have plenty of chances to see him again." Thirty-plus years later, I've never left a show early since.
  15. Very close to what my buddy says - "I don't know how long they can keep doing this. Or how long I can. So I'm going while we can all be there." Found out today that the Buddy Guy show I was going to this week has been postponed until April. Hopefully his health situation clears up.
  16. I've done a couple of the meet & greets. Nita Strauss was one. I think the most expensive was $50. I'd have loved to do the Ace Frehley one, but it was pricier than I was willing to go. The one that cracked me up the most was Ted Nugent's - I think it was $300, you got a picture with him, but it was not guaranteed to be an individual picture. Yeah, no thanks.
  17. Arena shows have gotten to the point that I really have to want to go. My buddy is a huge Aerosmith fan, and when I told him what the prices were, he said, "I've seen them enough. I'm not paying that." Same for Clapton. We tend to stick to smaller venues. At one of our favorite venues, we usually pay the extra price for the opera box seats because it pretty much eliminates the chance of people talking around us. The fees are ridiculous, though. A couple bucks to print tix, a couple more to stuff them in an envelope, and a few more to ship? I can live with that. But when I bought my tix for Extreme, they added a bit over 30% in fees, IIRC. And for that 30% they...did nothing. No ticket, nothing to ship, and I get to print them myself. And that's not even Ticketmaster, where you get the pleasure of paying extra for an aisle seat. Seriously - $20 more for the "convenience" of having to get up every five minutes because somebody needs their 10th beer. And "Official Platinum Pricing" - yes, we know this is a $75 seat, but because tickets are selling half-decently, today it's only $275. Just for fun, I took a look at Eagles tix again - only the platinum were available, and the cheapest was $575 for a ticket with a face value under $300. And I still remember my parents buying the second-tier price tickets for Johnny Cash (my first show) because, as my dad said at the time, "There's no need to pay more than five bucks for this."
