"Oil finished" necks

carfish7

Question

What does one use to restore supple smoothness to a very parched maple neck that came from the factory with some sort of oil and wax applied? Danish then a wax/oil blend? Tung oil? Noxema Night Cream?

Seems my task lately is resuscitating old and neglected gems. Thanks in advance for sharing any wisdom you may have on these matters.

Murkat, I gotta send you a Pep Boys gift certificate or something for all your brilliant solutions. That cat piss didn't stand a chance and naptha is my new friend for de-funkification!

Thanks!

Ernie Ball Music Man uses Birchwood Casey Tru Oil Gunstock Finish and Gunstock Wax (two separate products) to get the unfinished, played-in feel on their guitars. There are videos on YouTube showing you the application process. There are also numerous threads on the guitar forum at www.music-man.com that you can access via the search function.

The BC products are also what Charvel has been using in recent years.
