Post your recordings II

Recommended Posts

The last thing I've played on is the "Hegemonic Cult" MCD from Cuban melodic death metal band BLINDER. I played the guitar solos on tracks 3 and 8, plus the half of the rhythm parts on track 2. I also produced the album. It was mastered by Andy Larocque. There's also a long solo from Steve Smyth (ex-Nevermore, ex-Forbidden) on track 7. You can stream the whole album here -this is a private link, but I'll share anything with you guys:

https://soundcloud.com/rhombifer/sets/blinder-hegemonic-cult-ep-2014/s-UNxOL

BTW, this was released on February 4th, but I didn't talk about it here because I didn't want to use the HFC to market it.

Anyhow, if someone around is interested about the band, wants to buy the CD, wants to book the band, to sign them :) or whatever else that can be good for them, please PM me or visit www.blindermetal.com

BTW, forgot to mention the gear I used -that's always interesting. :)

All my parts were recorded "wet". For the rhythm parts I used my black MIK Hoyer through a Metal Muff into a Fender Twin 68 Combo.

For the leads I used a Hoyer and my MIK Schenker Dean V prototype for "Die By The Sword" and one of my Czech Dean Vs for "Faces of Reality", using a custom treble booster into a Pignose "Piggy-in-a-box" into an emulated Fender Bassman.

As you see, no Hamer this time. :(

Never heard them, but thanks, and will check them out, thanks again.

Excuse me, it's Saviour Machine :-)

Gotcha. I was a big Stryper fan growing up, and didn't realize they were a religious band until months after buying their album. "To Hell with the Devil" and "Shout at the Devil" sounded about the same to me! Rush was the only band I listened hard the the lyrics back then.

Will check them out.

I was wanting to get some feedback on drums. I created a drum template with BFD and tapped it out real-time on a touch sensitive MIDI keyboard. I have BFD 2 but have been too lazy to install and setup.

Does it sound somewhat real. And if not, what's the weak link.

Any comments appreciated

Here are a few I have done....I am the lead vocal on all of these and play lead guitar on all but Synchronicity. I just couldn't pull playing it and singing it at the same time.

Ballroom Blitz from a few years ago....

I am just on Bltiz, but It has a nice cheap trick groove, a little Freddie Mercury and Rocky Horror Picture Show. Was it in that movie? Regardless, definite talent for a major label.

Seems like a lifetime ago now (can't believe it was almost 15 years ago already!), but a track from my 'Prog metal' days of old (Hamer Centaura into a Peavey 5150 head/Mesa Recto cab if memory serves correct) :)

That's pretty killer right there...

Thanks for the kind words Coolfeel (unless of course the subliminal messages in the music actually ended up killing someone, at that point all I can do is apologize)

Dude...that might just be the coolest compliment I have ever received. Huge thanks.

Sounds great! Vocals are really solid.

I wrapped up this revision of a cover of the opening instrumental from the latest Carcass album. I'd originally done it as a quick demo of my new PRS Archon amp, but it was strictly a demo. So I decided to revisit it, make sure I got the bends down better, and triple-tracked the guitars like I thought was done on the original (they were at least doubled). Turned out better.

This would be nice in a sound track. If I was 20 today and could compose good snippets or jingles on a computer host, I would move my arse to Cali. Small one part song jingles are everywhere, and many of the writers just happen to live in Californian. There are probably thousands in the south that could do a better job. Sound Snippets!

To keep the ball rolling a easy song from my post punk "The Church" side.

I'll try to make it through some of these at the gym tonight. Here's an old tune from my first band.

You song, and clean mix. Bet the drummer was happy with it! Kind of Alice in chains and post era sounding, nice. Hard to find a good singer like that.

Thanks!

I think we recorded it back in 2001 or 2. Hard to remember now, but it was kind of in the era -- a bunch of kids who grew up on equal parts Grunge and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

I was actually trying to find this to stick on that same post, but you beat me over hear.

This is a completely random thing I did for someone that needed something "world" sounding.

Very nice. Just getting the volume of the instruments correct is crucial. If I had that band and was a little younger, I would find a cruise line or a spot in the tropics to play :)

Here is my band - 4 trax. Two different guitars on each track. Mostly my trusty '79 Sunburst Custom, and the other guitarists all mahogany LP Custom. I play a Newport with Phat Cats on Rock N Roll Monster:

http://soundcloud.com/los_federales

I dig Spiritual Beggars, Mojobone, and King Hobo. Though not quite the same, I also love some Mustasch - the songs 6:36 and Ocean Song kind of knocked me out of my chair when I first heard them. I also like your stuff, and it makes me wonder:

Why is it that you Swedes have gotten better than us at the dirty, blues rock thing?

Crimsontider - I'd love to take credit, but that wasn't us doing the engineering. That was an unmastered mix of what was going to be a second album. It was recorded on the cheap in what was essentially a studio made for doing jingles. We were the first band project that rolled through there and recorded during off hours as a close friend of the band ended up the house engineer there and asked if we'd like to try and do an album. He was the engineer on this stuff a few years later and won a Grammy for this:

I hear they paid better than we did, haha.

Obviously, that sounds better, but it was a lot of fun doing our stuff. We were milking all the sound we could out of that little studio. We didn't have a proper drum room, so we ran the drum mix through two big PA speakers live in a big office space next door and mic-ed them so the room would sound bigger. Years later he told me that we were the project where it all clicked for him as an engineer.

Well I can see why. Yours is professional grade, so is the playing. I guess you can always borrow their template?

I was inspired to dig up some old band I was in around 91. This is a good example of a bad mix, I was the drummer. We did a better demo later, but I lent it to someone and ended up moving, so I lost it.

Even worse mix. This was me as the guitarist in the late 80's while I was going to school at UA.

Later years was as a drummer with a guy named Ernest Ray Everette, who is still going strong in Europe.

I always though he should have gone to Nashville. He and Faith hill were class favorites and both played in the Gospel Group "The Steele Family.

Filled with good video's

I can get bored with vanila blues rock, but you have added an edge and even a hard rock twist to it that makes it much more interesting. The vocals and guitar tone is especially good and interesting.

Metal Blues!

Me and Ernest Ray Everett are both from Brandon, Mississippi, coincidentally enough. All of that stuff sounded good, especially his stuff. Big problem though -- everyone knows country music doesn't have fiddle or pedal steel in it! Real country is in drop D and features rap in the verses!
