Greentail
What's the best ? Double Cream bridge and zébra neck pickups or zebra bridge n double cream neck pickups ? want to remove covers . Eventually I change one pickup under the covers, I think the 2 Duncan Designed pickups are zébra.
gorch
Regardless of optical correctness, I'd go for Phat Cats in an import Standard.

I'm a big fan of the SD Seth lovers and Antiquities... but not sure if they come in the zebra/double cream bobbins... you can usually find them used and save a bunch of cash~ I have a 97 Standard with a JB/59 combo that sounds absolutely amazing!.. some people think that the JB sounds too bright however I find it perfect in a Marshall 412 situation... good luck in your search~
DaveL
might be cool to remove the pickup covers to give it a different look, Duncan Designed are actually not too bad (IMHO at least)
scottcald
I agree it depends on what you're playing and how hot a pickup you want. The JB/59 is a good combo, but maybe also look at a 59 set if you like more of a PAF sound.
Greentail
Hello I have a salmon pink Sunburst with 59/JB pickups. For the standard,my option, today, is to remove covers. When I remove screws, I see cream bobin : perhaps zebra bobins for the 2 pickups. Perhaps a Cream Dimarzio neck PAF in the future ... I played the guitar for a concert, with my Mesa boogie caliber 25, good sounds, clear, saturation and crunch (MDR distortion + at 25%) with my band : Avalon : https://1drv.ms/u/s!Ag8QxsK-t4BcixIjPYHG_fiS3XvT
Jakeboy
The DD that simulates a Duncan Distortion actually does a wonderful PAF tone!
Greentail
Hey it's seems that my soldering iron is' t enough powerfull ... here pics from alu backplate covers, DIY. motorcycle exhaust paint ( black hot temperature for hot chorus ! )
Hbom
I'm not sure what the solder issue was about, but the cover plates turned out pretty nice.
