David Cassidy fighting dementia.

Recommended Posts

In the early 2000's Rhino Records was rereleasing the Partridge Family albums.  David Cassidy said he had no problem with that as long as they removed his image and voice from those rereleases.  His Las Vegas shows were filled with Partridge Family songs.

He took his show on the road in the early 2000's and one stop was in Cherokee, NC at the casino.  It was my chance to hear those songs performed live, so a ticket was purchased right away.  There were women there who obviously had dreamed about David Cassidy when they were young, some of them questioning me about why I would go to his show.  My answer was simple.  I was too young to be offended or jealous of David Cassidy when The Partridge Family was on TV, and I wanted to grow to be like Danny.  I did, too!  I became a genuine smartass.

David Cassidy constantly brushed his hair back during the show, just like Keith Partridge.  There was a warning before the show that flash photography was not allowed.  Someone at my table used a flash which caused a security guard to step over to stop the lady with the camera.  Behind the security guard David was trying to get the guard's attention saying it was all right with him and not to bother the lady with the camera.  He was nice to the audience, and he could still sing!  Those songs were written and recorded by the A-list Los Angeles musicians of the day.

Not a surprise, these lyrics are clearly written by somebody with memory problems.

"I think I love you.
So what am I so afraid of?
I'm afraid that I'm not sure of"

I saw him at some point in the middle 90s in a Broadway show in Denver.  I think it was Blood Brothers.  Yep, that was Keith Partridge alright.

Side note: two Broadway shows is a lifetime's worth for me.  I saw that and Phantom of the Opera.

As Mrs. Toadroller said after playing seven (not nine, mind you) holes of golf, "I'm done."

Ironically, I was working with a buddy tonight and while scrolling around music on my iPad I came across a couple Partridge Family songs and played them; and hours later when I get home and started reading the news online I came across this story. Pretty sad.

Jeez.... he turned into a Neil Diamond wannabe. Who is the hot blond in the background?

It must be really hard getting old when you were once so beautiful and now you are invisible unless onstage singing to the same teenie bopper groupies as you did in the 70s and they look worse then you do now.

Cassidy got a bad deal back when those albums were made.  His view is that unless the deal is renegotiated he will not cooperate.

From what I've heard they pretty much screwed all the kids. Bonaduce was the most vocal about it but I haven't heard anything from him in years.

Aside from the fact that none of them, other than Shirley Jones, would have had any career without that show or those albums.
Something they all cashed in on ad nauseum for decades without anything new contributed. Purely Comic-Con fodder.
Bonaduce is a perfect example. He made a whole career on the back of being "the chubby kid on the Partridge Family."

The only two who actually sang on the albums were David Cassidy and Shirley Jones.

Ok, you know waaaay too much about David Cassidy and the Partridge Family.
I'm almost concerned.

He looks more and more like his dad each day.

One could easily be led to believe that he is ginning up news so people come to see him.

It has to be hard going from  teen star to the golden years, especially as your core audience dwindles,  and the cash cow grows thin.

Booze & drugs more often than not fills that void.
