JCM-800 troubles

Kurt L

Question

My JCM-800 (single input 1x12, model 4210) is giving me fits because of a problem switching channels.

The gain channel functions normally but when I switch to the clean channel, the clean channel's volume control has no effect. It's like the input is hardwired to "full blast" mode. Loud, loud, loud... like instant hearing loss kind of loud.

Any ideas besides just accepting reality and paying someone to fix it?

The first and main reason is the malfunction of the potentiometer.
Simply put - his central leg was broken off.
Rather, cleaning does not help. Cleaning is useful when a rustle, creak.

PS: If the sound would be lost (completely or partially) when switching to the Clean channel, then there would be other variants of the malfunction.
In the diagram I have marked components by increasing probability.
