Walk This Way - the inside story

The song hit me on the radio I think. As I knew the original and had my memories to it. I can’t recall I was happy when the rap starts in, but it takes you withing a few seconds with it’s energy. Against all odds, as it reads, Rubin not just implemented a crazy idea. He made it to the level of history. When I read the age of those guys, its even more crazy and astounding.

My second son just started Music Technology Specialist bachelor. So, the article reads a bit special to me right now. If it will ever earn him enough for his living. It's all different today. And I’m not expecting anything. It will be interesting to see what he is going through and where it takes him.

I like Perry's tone on the Run DMC cover. Sounds like a 2203 or 2204.

Could be a 2204, it does not sound as stiff as a 100 watter. But who's to know....?!

A 2204 would be my guess due to the very slight sag but very pronounced upper mid-range. Quite Angus-like.

I need to get another one of those. Such killer amps.

Love that red covered JCM 800; just badassery right there.  Did he use one (or that one) on the recording? it's highly unlikely it was that one, but then it would have helped if Joe had actually plugged a cable into that amp during the video...

^^^That's really funny! He did his bit for the Les Paul Tribute show with Buddy Guy and it sounded like an oooold hounddog and a mangy cat fighting.

RobB, given your description of Joe's tone on that remake as flatulent, I would probably be amused to hear your opinion on Neil Young's tone formula of Ol' Black + goosed tweed Deluxe.

I also have to say I prefer his tone here over his norm.

Tone is a matter of taste. I have liked the song from the first day on I heard it. And never cared on the particularness of the guitar tone. It nicely separates from the original.

The studio version guitars are just so tight. That is the only word that I can think of. Perry used a Maestro FZ1 fuzz pedal cause he wanted a “buzzsaw” tone.

The RDMC version just sounds looser...he plays the riff differently too....at the end of the line he will hold the e note on the 4th string 2nd fret whereas on the studio verision he cuts it off pretty quick.

I like em both too.

Of course it’s a matter of taste. I didn’t say it was better,  All I said was that I preferred it.

So had I understood.
