unfun75
Probably be cheaper and easier to get a DVD/VCR combo at this point.

geoff_hartwell
I don’t have a spare player, but- Does that friend want a ton of vhs movies, mostly from former video stores?

Carl.B
I would imagine the cost of shipping would be more than the price for one at Goodwill, second handed store or pawn shop.

The point is to get him a working one. Might suck to get it and have no tapes, or a slim choice. lmk Punkavanger
Punkavenger
Yeah , this is a tricky situation . Can you even hook a vcr to a fairly modern tv? Are there still places that transfer video tapes to dvd? Maybe that would be easier? Of course I would be willing to pay for shipping plus $$$ for your time and vcr

Biz Prof
This reminds me of the beginning of a fall semester circa 2007 when a semi-elderly adjunct faculty member dropped by my office and asked if I had a 3.5" diskette she could use. Stupefied, I paused for a few seconds and replied, "Yeah...in my time machine." Good luck finding a functioning VHS machine. Thrift stores almost always have a few. soli'd
I've got a Sony VCR that was a good unit back in the day, i doubt I've got the remote. You'll want to connect with the composite (analog) connections, there's a combo cable with red, white, yellow rca plugs (red/white are right/left audio, yellow is video). Message me if you're still looking for one.
kanegon
Wow, B&H had brand new recent model DVD-VCR dual decks until recently, but they’ve disappeared. Same nobrand decks are gone from Amazon also. Guess the market finally dried out in Asia. Here’s one that’s far more robust and possibly repairable than most home units. These were probably $1000+ back in the day. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F263398084623
