bubs_42
Well 2017 turned out pretty good I have to say. Joined a band, having fun and being enjoying what I have. There is still a few things that I need or want to accomplish in this coming year that I would like to post to help me keep on track. I'll try to keep this list short, because lets face it, I can't remember what I did yesterday some times.LOL 1. Enjoy playing more, stop being so damn serious. 2. Master Doug's Lesson Sheets. 3. Find a second amp that compliments the Orangutan Jr. 4. Sell two of the three Telecaster and find a Stratocaster. 5. Buy a Lap Steel. Pretty easy list, #1 just comes from my wife taking video of me playing at the gigs. I'm up there working, not working it. Its kind of my nature, i'm more serious than you may think. #2 DRagan has been a great friend to me over the last couple of years, he has literally laid the key to the highway in my lap and now its time to start the journey. #3 3 Monkeys ORJ is Still the Best Amp (FOR ME) ever, not sure why I just bought another amp, and maybe I just know what I like and I should just stick with it. It just feels weird only having one amp. #4 having had so many Stratocasters/Telecaster and never kept them, I finally figured out that they are what they are, I have three tele's and I keep going back to the one every time. So its time to pony up and find a Stratocaster I can live with. #5. I can't justify (although I would love to own one) buying a Pedal Steel guitar, and a new or even vintage Lap Steels are still within reach. So feel free to slag me the next time you see me buy a pedal (BECAUSE I DON"T NEED ANYMORE DAMN PEDALS!) Oh and Hamerhead is keeping track of the pool. So submit your Date and $10 to him as soon as you can for the best possible dates. Winner gets 60% of the winnings, the other 10% goes to Shoe Feynman's Children. I figure the other 30% is going in Hamerhead's Pocket, because he has needs too.
django49
2017 will go down as a pretty damn good year (near as good as 2016) but for somewhat different reasons. So many other things demanding time that music and playing got shorted a bit. Called it quits on "the band", at least for a while. Playing stagnating, while some other "bidness" gets handled. Hope to be able to reignite the spark. Sorta the opposite on "Fender" types. Decided that my lack of understanding (or appreciation) for Strats could be resolved with a lesser known PRS, the 513. Seriously challenging my "numero uno", at least for now. Gets that Strat thing, but also gives a few more goodies when called upon. (You know me, I ended up with TWO and should cut loose the pricier one in 2018). STILL have not found THE "Tele" that convinces me of the inherent magic. ZERO immediate desires to acquire "more", though I will confess to (still) having a pair of items in the queue for mid-2018. Will be interesting to see who delivers first. Those will flow against my ongoing efforts to end up with LESS. Not ruling out a trade or three along the lines, but the herd is definitely skinnier than before. My very last old Gibbie may finally depart. If I end 2018 with a net minus of 8 or 10 instruments, that will be cool. Really need to "outsource" a handful of amps and cabinets. Inertia...... Pedals? Yeah, got a few. Well, probably a few dozen, 2B honest.....I should sort through them. Somehow I always seem to default to shoving them in a drawer and forgetting about them. Anyway, best wishes to everyone for the tail end of 2017 and a healthy, prosperous and toneful 2018! PS.....Will there be an "over/under" on the pool? Jakeboy
You may just not be a Tele Guy, my friend.....even the most basic Tele will have the Tele magic if it has quality pickups, decent wood, and the all-important baseplate and bridge. Thundersteel
I've had a revelation--the more guitars I have, the less they get played; so I'm going to thin down my collection even more. I've recently sold three guitars, with plans to sell a few more.

That way you won't feel so bad when you don't use it. 10% for Mitch's Kids is very generous. But being the holiday season I guess it's OK. Me for '18: 1. Recording. Recording. More recording. 2. Selling. Selling. More selling. 3. Finalize one special purchase. 4. Do more drugs. 5. Think positive. Get healthy. Reconnect with the real world. It depends on what you think your tele tone is. A 50's Fat Neck Tele with a maple board does not sound like a 60's slimmer board with rosewood. At this point I feel you at least need to own one, and a Strat and a Les Paul.

I've been obsessing about getting a Baja Tele, due to the fat neck feature; the switching seems pretty cool, too. Unfortunately, the time's not right for me, but GC had them, as recently as yesterday, for $680.

Necks are damn close if not the exact neck. I modded my Burton to be more modern and that neck is amazing.
Jakeboy
2017 was a good year. 2018—-Complete The A.C. Rev 70s style rock album. —-lose some weight. —-Buy more Lovepedals. I dig ‘em. I am set with Guitars and amps at this point.
gorch
2017 went in speed times. Dunno what I have achieved musically other than spending money. So, 2018 needs more playing and recording. I have plenty of gear to choose from. So there’s nothing I’m really looking out for right now.
diablo175
2017 marked a significant musical milestone in that I finally assembled some like-minded musicians (now officially called Critical Mess) in my efforts to get my long-overdue musical ideas down and hopefully out for public consumption (or ridicule ) 2018 is going to be a challenge year. Maintaining the initiative and drive to see these musical ideas through and start to play them live is going to be a challenge, especially in light of my other (cover) band picking up steam and landing more and more gigs. To that end my 2018 goals are: * Continue to write and record new material for Critical Mess, focusing on tunes that utilize the double neck Cali. * Continue to develop the cover band's (SplitStream) exposure and add more material that will improve our appeal with the audience. * Continue my learning on guitar and music theory. * One or two more custom guitar orders are tentatively in the works. That should keep me pretty damned busy.
rugby1970
2017 was an up and down year. My Dad and my eldest sister died within three months of each other. Recently became a first time grandfather, retiring from work in the first week of 2018 and moving to Florida. Also, fell in love with my wife again. So there was not much guitar playing in 2017. In 2018: Hang out with my grandson More playing, more lessons. Find local folks to play with. Sell a few guitars, at least one Tele as I found the one for me. Better health, lose weight. Jeff R
My biggest goal is to launch and complete an overdue expansion to my shop. Increasing the total footprint by about one third ... adding a designated "dirty room" for tooling that throws sawdust and other nuisance particle matter, to keep the clean side clean and free up needed space in the area - I'm tripping over stuff right now I'm so tight for space. Also adding in that area a permanent paint booth with proper work space, lighting, piece movement, air circulation, ventilation/exhaust, compression, moisture control, etc. Which leads to my second goal ... to spend my free time in the coming year in said paint booth, on the wetsanding bench, at my buffer station, and practice, practice, practice and more practice. Sugartune
2017 was a pretty good year, all in all. Pedals was the theme of the year for me. Many came and went. Also sold my first tube amp (Peavey Classic 50) and bought a small 6 watt 6v6 amp (Valvetrain Concord) For 2018; in no particular order except the first one 1 - no more pedals!!!! 2 - Strat. Need one in the stable. 3- Move more and get lost in the moment when playing live. 4 - play more at home 5 - Write, write, write! 6 - More Quality Time with my daughter, especially as she continues to show more interest in playing she’s 4, so I’ve been patient 7 - learn some more theory and practice entry level things, like scales

scottcald
My last project with an old buddy will never get beyond mediocre at best (because he puts no effort in, just wants to pretend he's a rock star), so that has been put to rest. My buddy would get the gigs for the group, but then put no effort into getting songs right, so we'd never get return gigs. This year I found a couple of guys who wanted to do things right. The new group located a bassist with the same vibe and we're getting stuff together. 2018 will see us playing some gigs out hopefully sooner rather than later. polara
2017... Got up to speed at my new job and by end of the year had a substantial raise and was named outstanding contributor for 2017. Band made a few more videos, got mentions in some local pubs, one video got over 500 views in about two days. Didn't gig as much as i wish becuase I do marketing 45 hours a week and don't want to do it at night, too. Gave in and admitted I love buying, repairing/setting up guitars and selling them for a mild loss or profit. I like the hands-on fiddling, improving my soldering skills, the "yes" of getting a sticky nut to work smoothly and a Strat vibrato to float just right. I have a couple keeper guitars, but I'll always have from one to ten just passing through as I fiddle and tweak. Got the planning done on a new business that, if it goes according to plan, will be a low-stakes hobby for two years, a side gig for three, and by the time we relocate to the EU in 2024 will be my main gig. Started writing and illustrated a childrens' book.

django49
Well, just to incentivize myself and (maybe) prevent backsliding, here is the more detailed 2018 plan.... Guitars......Sell 14. Seven are already posted either here or elsewhere (or both). The second seven will roll out after there is action on the first group. There is some discussion underway re 5 of them, but talk and action are two different things, so I do not want to get too far ahead of myself. It is wearying to put too many things into play at once. (I reckon there are some things I ought to remember to bump). Amps.....Sell a handful----3 Mesas, one Fender, one Quilter. Gotta ponder a bit more the "extra" Fuchs Fully intend to sell locally rather than ship. Cabinets......Sell at least two, though I should sell more. Like amps, no great desire to ship big heavy boxes. Incoming? GAS is virtually non-existent. There are two Custom Order buns in the oven, dating back to mid-2017 and likely due around the third quarter of 2018. Cannot think of anything else I want to pursue at this time. There is ONE pedal that I will almost certainly buy. IF it ever gets off the drawing board. 2017 seems to have flown by with little more than a few schematics. Had an approach about "coming out of retirement" temporarily. Decided I could not justify going back to Beverly Hills for an extended "gig". No particular "band" plans at this time. But I do have some challenging projects in the shop that I hope to be able to devote more time towards. Now that I have set up a "scorecard", I guess I will have to hold myself accountable. FrettyMcgee
2017 was kinda cool for learning more about what it takes to build a guitar. On the flip side, it was a bummer to realize I no longer have callouses on my fingers. 2018? come to terms that I will never be Paul Gilbert. Be okay with that. Build callouses. continue learning the guitar building art. get my gear in order, playing through headphones isn't cutting it. try to sell more than I buy. try to lose some goddamn weight. Even if its 5lbs.
