Ting Ho Dung
Gotta admit, I was a big QR fan with their first 4 albums and I occasionally still play them or binge on them. Then they disappeared after that crap with "Silent Lucidity." Seemed to have lost their edge and went Radio. It got them a hit though. They were supposed to open up for Def Leppard at the Lakeland Civic Center in the late '80s but no one I was with that evening had heard of them so we all hung out in a bar and went late which I suppose was part of these Yuppies "coolness" factor back then. I was riding on someone else' ticket so not much I could do and I wasn't even paying for the drinks. Again, part of their "coolness." So I missed QR in their moment with OMC. Finally got to see them in their old age around 10 years ago @ the Tampa Amphitheater where they opened for Judas Priest with Rob H. This may have been his first tour back with the band. They were okay but whatever. Lost their luster for me especially after the horrific OMC II. So I never really looked into Todd La Torre. This popped up on my YouTube this morning and I thought the guy was great. Kind of a mix between Geoff and Dickenson (?). I know there has been a lot of discussion here in the past about the politics of the band. I don't really care about that as I lost interest in them long before any of that. I did watch Geoff try to sing QR on a YouTube channel a few years and felt badly for him. He's definitely lost the edge. I think this guy is a good replacement for him. I listened to him address the crowd and he sounded oddly Bostonian. I thought that was interesting since his last name is probably French (I must admit though I am really bad at origin of surnames). So I Wikid him and found that he is from right here in Central Florida and did some stints with local bands in Brandon which makes sense since I heard him do a death metal growl at one point. Here are a few I had running this morning.
BubbaVO
He's the real deal. One minute he's working on car upholstery and then... I was supposed to see them at the Starland Ballroom a few years back, but a snowstorm hit. I hope to see them this year.

Steve Haynie
La Torre sings the old Queensryche stuff perfectly, and then he sounds entirely different on the music they recorded after Geoff Tate's departure.

La Torre (it’s Spanish, meaning “The Tower”) performed the old material with brio and never missed a note. Awesome vocalist with a good command of the stage. Also, before Queensryche he sung for your Floridan pals Crimson Glory. He did an amazing job there too. He could perform those Midnight songs even better than Midnight himself. And BTW, I think he used to be a drummer, playing in bands around the Tampa area —I bet you guys have some common friends around there!
BTMN
He is from near the VIP Ting. Understand very cool and down to earth kind of person too. I was 6th row right in front of KK at that QR/JP show too Ting.
princeofdarkness56
Never was a big QR fan but I worked their show about 2 years back with the new singer. I was impressed.
scottcald
He definitely carrying the torch forward for the old material. It's got to be a tough thing for a singer when you make your name belting out notes that high all the time. There will come a time when LaTorre won't be able to do it either. It seems though that Tate either didn't maintain his voice or simply lost interest in being able to sing that way.
Steve Haynie
Geoff Tate can still sing. He was surprisingly good when he opened for Ace Frehley in Atlanta a couple of years ago.

What actually happened was that his level of “assholity” respect to the other band members grew up to humongous proportions —a swollen ego can turn you into a really bad person without you even realizing it. Also, the others (and the fans!) wanted more metal stuff, as well as more songs live from their early days. Geoff wasn’t into that anymore. But well, in the euphemistic vocabulary related to band breakups, this issue classifies as “creative differences”, right?

I get someone might want to move on creatively, but you shouldn't forever ignore the songs that made you famous. I think while I'd love a Zeppelin reunion as much for new material as the old, I think Plant has done it right. He's followed his creative desires but he still plays Zeppelin songs live, just reworked into the more roots style he's been doing.
Devnor
I think Todd is great but I'm not interested in QR without Chris. That said, some of the stuff off the new album isn't bad.

BubbaVO
Just saw them last night at Penns Peak in Jim Thorpe, PA. Wow. Todd LaTorre kicked ass. He essentially gave a clinic on singing. I didn't want to sing along because his delivery and control were so impressive. I just wanted to hear him. Great chemistry between Parker Lundgren, Michael Wilton and Eddie Jackson - all played so well together and sounded fantastic. Lundgren played the DeGarmo parts perfectly. Casey Grillo formerly of Kamelot(?) really delivered on the drums too. The song choices were great, sampling between the Lady Wore Black from the EP released in '83 to Guardian from Condition Human. Penns Peak was maybe half full. But the crowd was into it. It was a lot of fun. BTW. Lynch Mob opened up. I'm not much of a Dokken fan. I always respected GL's playing. But after seeing what he does up close, I'm a GL fan. I was a blown away. The rest was great too.

I like the stuff i've heard with La Torre and he seems to do a great job. Saw them with Tate around the time of the last tour they did together before all hell broke lose. Tate's voice was still pretty good but he definately avoided a lot of the higher range parts. Take hold of the flame is just not quite the same.
