FrettyMcgee
So, I've been working on a dirty little project to throw together a 80s vibe BC Rich, Gunslinger style. I picked up a Korean NOS Rich neck and worked out a Bich template. While the neck is pretty decent as-is, I wanted to hot rod it a bit with some quality frets. I ordered some All-Parts frets, super jumbo. Look, I love giant frets, but these scare me! Something tells me if I install them, it'll be no different that having a scalloped fretboard. By way of comparison, Dunlop 6000 are .118"W / .058"T . These suckers are listed as .170"W / .102"H !!! I think I'm going to dial it back a bit and go with a reasonable jumbo sized stainless steel. Anyway, here's some pix of the body so far.

Jakeboy
Wow...do you have copies of the Bich template? That is badass.
Steve Haynie
Just for fun, you could get a second neck and install those bigger frets. Then you could switch out necks to see what those giant frets feel like with the ability to switch back by just changing necks.
tbonesullivan
DAYUM. That puts the stuff that ibanez uses to shame!

Yep, I suppose I could be persuaded to copy one off. Its been a while since I actually created a template from print out drawing to actual body. I can't verify if the dimensions are the exact same as any given year for a real deal Bich. But its within reason. 2 hours ago, Steve Haynie said: Just for fun, you could get a second neck and install those bigger frets. That's pretty much what I was thinking, I'm going to keep a eye out for decent 24 fret donor to experiment with.
Jeff R
Dunlop 6000/Jescar 58118 is the largest production fret I've found to date, but I haven't looked hard to discover what all is out there globally or on a custom forged basis. Allparts.com lists their fret sizes in mm, not inches. The dimensions for the frets you order convert to a "jumbo" that's on the big side in the world of fretdom but significantly smaller than a 58118. If you did the conversion before you posted the numbers, yep, that's a big fret and send me a link to them ... I want to fret a spare neck with those logs just for kicks. Jakeboy
Those are huge.....Rickenbacker 650s used to ship with wire like that.
DBraz
I love high frets. My favourite so far been 55090's. Those must feel great! Higher frets give that extra bit of confidence with wide vibrato.
Jeff R
I have 55090s on my '55 LP Junior and my '76 LP "Standard Deluxe." The jumbo height but narrower width fools your fingertips in that you can feel a little more airspace between the higher frets. It gives a little more dig room for bending and vibrato, and makes the transition between 25.5 and 24.75 scale instruments a tad easier - for me at least. Jeff R
Tang thickness and depth appear to be pretty standard, so what the hell ... I'm in. AP is showing they're currently out of stock but I've put in an alert to notify me when it's back in stock. I'd love to know who is making that raw wire and better yet, for exactly what type of musical instrument were those pipes designed for LOL. If that shit is as big as they say it is on the product description, it's going to feel under the fingers like one of the early Malmsteen sig series strats. Not scallops ... more like canyons. DBraz
Talking about the Malmsteen starts his original scalloped Fender, which he did himself, was extremely crude. No where near as precise as what Fender sold as his signature axe. When Fender made their authentic tribute version they were shocked.
Jeff R
Holy shit, look at these photos I just found online. I would have guessed this was a photoshop gag if I hadn't searched for the actual fret wire's SKU number ... I love big frets, but this is simply ridiculous. Why not take it a step further and pound in some Shubb tone bars? Maybe Shubb will sell the metal parts they use to make these:

burningyen
I clicked on this thread thinking, "What could possibly be scary about frets?" But yeah, those are some frightening sizes. I wonder what SS frets in those sizes would do to fret nippers.
