FGJ
I just saw two different T51s from two different sellers on Reverb, both for around 2Gs. I dig my T51, but almost 2Gs? Is the booming economy raising these guitar prices or something? Or are both sellers on crack? I suspect the first guy who listed is on crack and the second guy saw the first seller's price and took that as the going market price without looking elsewhere to get a sense of the average market value, thinking he could ask the same thing. I tend to think that being a great, well-made guitar only invests an instrument with so much market value. To get beyond a certain price-point, you need to have lots of eye-candy or some kind of exclusive gimmick (e.g., "Hendrix's dog peed on this guitar", or some such thing). https://reverb.com/item/7712428-hamer-usa-t-51-tele-butterscotch-blonde https://reverb.com/item/12783656-1990s-rare-hamer-usa-hamer-t-51-tele-natural-gloss-finish-hard-case
RobB
I don’t think two overpriced Tele clones are indicative of market value. They won’t sell at those prices. Hamer prices are going up, pretty much on the high-end (4-digits, Virts, custom orders, TTS, etc.), but the rank/file models seem to be holding steady adjusted for inflation. Not as many bargains out there as there used to be, but there are still many to be had.
bubs_42
Ha, asking prices are on the upswing, but sale prices are a whole other thing. Everyone has to remember that you can now buy brand new guitars for 1k, new over sea's guitars for $499.
The Shark
Asking price never determines the market.
ARM OF HAMER
Yeah lots of high priced "REGULAR" Hamer models out there on Reverb and Ebay....................asking Is not getting.
Hamer_SS_guy
At ebay Kleinanzeigen (similar to Reverb, private sales ads) there are two Steve Stevens models for sale. Both are heavily modified, yet they are asking prices, that are questionable. I am looking for a Steve Stevens to mod (different pickups, but still HSS format, Schaller vintage tremolo regular nut, locking tuning keys, which is reversible), but these are not interesting. Well, of course, I'd love a different color than candy red, as both of my SS are candy red. Those Hamer instruments that I am interested in are not that often for sale anymore. An older Chap Bass with OBL's would be cool, but I haven't seen one for sale here in Germany for quite some time. https://www.ebay.de/itm/RAR-1984-USA-Hamer-Steve-Stevens-Les-Paul-Double-Cut-Special-Dimarzio-Floyd-Rose/232804990200?hash=item3634423cf8:g:ZwUAAOSwt5VbIV5c&clk_rvr_id=1568326355559&rmvSB=true (this guy is asking about $1935 for the guitar!) https://www.ebay-kleinanzeigen.de/s-anzeige/hamer-steve-stevens-ss1-usa/884343399-74-4258 (this guy just tried to turn his SS into a Strat... )
crunchee
One guitar is being sold in Germany, the other in the UK. There always seems to be a premium of some type set for US-made guitars selling overseas regardless of maker or year, used or new, and this has pretty much always been the case...but those prices on those two Hamers are way optimistic. As has been said above and many times before here at the HFC, askin' ain't gettin'.
