  1. Ace Frehley-Shock Me Glenn Tillbrook (Squeeze) - Another Nail In My Heart That cat w/Pat Benatar - (Hit me with your) Best Shot Elliot Easton - Shake it up In no particular order.....They all fry me
  2. At age 17 or so (1974-ish) I found out that you really don't have to be a great player to be in a band and have people love what you're doing. You DO have to be fearless, and able to suck on your own without the ever-present help of drunk bandmates. I believe that audiences do feed off the energy of the band in a big way. The best gigs I ever played were the ones when the band was sober, playing well and showing the crowd that they were having fun. My most recent band was (is) made up of a rythm section that plays strictly for that little bit of money they get paid, only to waste that on booze. I've actually seen the bass player yawn while playing. I couldn't take it. I can't wait to find a band that gives a ****!
  3. After reading all these responses, I gotta say THANKS! I was feeling more than a little old yesterday, for some reason, and this gives me a renewed vigor. I love this place...
  4. Okay here's the deal. I just turned 49 and I still wanna rock. My most recent bandmates are now playing country...not a THANG wrong with that.....but sometimes I get the feeling that some guys think theyr'e supposed to "tone down"(or whatever) when they get to a certain age. Yeah, there are alot of older rockers still making records, but I'm talking about us average Joes that aren't famous. As long as you don't wear spandex over a beer gut, or try to wear black fingernail polish, or do really stupid looking dances, then I say Let Us Rawk! I shall play Cheap Trick, T.Rex, ZZ Top, KISS, Blue Oyster Cult.....and any other rock stuff that my fingers will comply with, until I'm sho nuff old! Can I get a AMEN?
  5. SCHWEET!!! was there a bag of sand sitting on the strings, or is the action really set that low? -Bob-
  6. The only ones I've tried that were absolute Doo-Doo: Rotosound, and those that are gold-plated (cant think of the name). I used Dean Markley for 10 years, Ernie Ball for probably 15 years, And now Everly. I change my strings often, but NEVER actually clean them. You can believe this or not.....I've played guitar 39 years and never broke a string ! Am I doing something wrong? -Bob-
  7. I ain't tossin' no 'maters, but ....I just can't get past lyrics (REM) that are so "artsy". I like a song that average Joe can understand. That being said, I guess there's not a single REM song that won't have you singing along immediately...
  8. Try them all....Everly B-52's are my new favorites....10's. -Bob-
  9. Kiss are big in my book, for getting LOTS of people interested in guitar....Then ZZ Top for having some of the best tunes I know. I'm probably a redneck myself, being born and raised just south of Atlanta, but MAN!!! Skynyrd is RED!!!!
  10. You would think the maple-topped artist would have a brighter sound than the all mahogany Vanguard, but not necessarily so. My '96 Artist Custom does Allman Bros. very well, and the Vanguard with P90's SCREAMS! But then they can each do the opposite!?! I got the AC new in '96 for $900, the Vanguard, used, a year ago at $650, the best 650 I've ever spent. Can't say enough about that silver Vanguard! Absolutely bob-a-kews!
  11. Jimi-Are You Experienced Squeeze - Babylon and On Kiss - Dressed to Kill ZZ Top - Tres Hombres XTC - Oranges and Lemons These just never get old.
  12. I'm sure I can't be the only one who's seen this....I bought my '80 Special new... and with its stock Dimarzios it sounded totally different than it does today...same guitar, same p'ups...25 years older. -Bob-
  13. Lord Nelson that trans black is absolutely fantastic!!
