John was a very good friend... He was passionate about music both playing and listening. He was an audiophile and had 2 incredible sound systems for listening. He was a master BBQ-ist. And he was a masterful conversationalist. Most importantly he was a fierce and loyal friend. The saddest part is his dementia robbed him of so many things over the past few years.  I hope he is at peace and talking up storm in heaven. God bless you John, you will be missed.

Trumpeter/composer Brad Haywood died suddenly this week, he was 51. Brad held a bachelor's in Music Ed and worked as a Jr High band director. Generic Hustle was a fun band and we all were pretty close right up to the end. Brad and I used to go ride motorcycles when we weren't jamming/recording/gigging. I have been in a bazillion bands, and it's rare when you can get 5 guys to get along so well and be very creative for 6 years straight. Rest easy, brother.

Bill was a great guy.  Big, loud, fun.   He would leave his job as a taxi driver and take his cab to drive from NYC to Lemoyne to hang out in my shop.   He loved 12  string basses and coffee.

I cannot for the life of me remember his handle here (it might be kurtl, but I'm not 100% on that). I had the great pleasure to meet Kurt one year when my friends and I were attending SXSW several years ago. We met for lunch and then hit a couple of guitar stores. He was a great and friendly host to me and my friends and I enjoyed our brief time together.

RIP Kurt.

I spoke w/ Steve last year, he was having a hard time but was trying to get his life together. Years back when I was traveling w/ a sales job, I stayed w/ Steve at least once (stayed at Jacks too). Steve and JackC came out and saw my old band in Salisbury NC, & the three of us also went to see Kings X in Charlotte at least once. He was a sweet guy and will be missed.

I sent this to Jay today. Instructions are to give it a setup and make it functional electronically. Bil put a lil whammy on this one. Looks like he tried, or did, put a nady wireless transmitter in it. With no receiver, I have no idea if it works. It does have a jack and that kind of works. It has had a few repairs and body mods. Beveling, belly cuts, and headstock repair oh my! Maybe a couple other things too. It was cheap when I bought it and I wanted a lil something Wyldbil if you will. He was that Cool.

In that spirit I want to let this guitar visit a few of you. After Jay gets it set I want the Pirate Special #5 to come be played at your house, at a gig, a party, whatever. Keep it a week or four. You have to agree to ship it on to the next person though and eventually it will come back to me or I will meet up with it at say the 4321 club, a jam at Dave's in Olney, maybe a trip to Dallas to meet an old friend again, then again there is the semi yearly Seattle/Northwest Jam. I understand Tampa now has direct flights to Seattle.

So who is interested in my social experiment? :blink:

I was thinking about having Jay send it to one of the Matthes twins to get the ball rolling. B)

]]>96196Fri, 13 Jan 2023 23:43:28 +0000Bloozguyhttps://www.hamerfanclub.com/forums/topic/86766-bloozguy/ I was told Bloozguy (Ray Egan) passed away September 2nd.  I suspect it was due to the cancer he had been fighting for the last couple years.   He was a long time HFCer and regular at the 4321 jams.  If you ever attended one, you likely met him.   He was also a lover and trader of fine guitars, often showing up at the jams with his latest catch which he would graciously allow others to enjoy as well.  Glad to have met you and spend time with you Ray.

He knew all the cool bands and was a very good friend.

He will truly be missed by those who knew him, and we’re somehow all better people for it.

Friends - this is Charlie’s wife MaryAnn. I wanted to share the news that Charlie’s cancer had spread quite aggressively in the past few weeks and he passed quietly at home very early Wednesday morning. He was holding my hand and Jonathan and Corinne and his dogs were all nearby. He was able to spend the last month saying goodbye to family and friends and his final decline was very quick and under the care of Hospice so he could be at home and comfortable. I’m so grateful for all of that. We are all at peace. Arrangements are still being finalized, but I will post those later today. Please honor Charlie today by giving your loved ones (including your pets 😊) a big hug today.
