Music by my original band My Critical Mess. All guitar work was done on my Hamer Swirly '89 Cali Elite LE. More new music dropping soon!6 points

Well, I got this one assembled today and started the setup. It's playing great now, but I'll let it sit overnight before I try to tweak it any further. I really like the SD Everything Axe pickups. I added coil split on a push/pull pot for some options. I still need to mount the trem cavity cover. Once that's done, I'll give it a final polish and remove the protective plastic which is still on the pickguard, then take some better pictures. Hopefully my buddy will be picking it up next weekend. I think he'll like it.5 points

2005 Hamer Studio Custom Transparent Black with an unbound headstock that I picked up from another member probably around 2008. A few years later I realized a dream by working with BCR Greg to install a third humbucker. The Pickups are medium output Fralins and the tone pot is a push/pull to will blend in the volume of the middle pickup when activated. Plays like a dream, plenty of fret life and no known issues. At the time of the alterations, Greg also expertly repaired a superficial finish blem the nearly invisible remnants of which I tried to capture in one of the pics. Includes perio2 points

If there is more guitar you can buy on Earth for $1,200, I haven't seen it.2 points

Well, thanks! Yeah, It's pretty safe to say he's gonna like it. He has seen pictures throughout the build process and of course he has been making a lot of the choices for woods, pickups, etc. I myself would not have chosen the black pickguard with that top, but in the end it is going to look cool. I was pushing for the gold anodized aluminum guard, like I put on my P bass.2 points

"I think he'll like it". Think he'll like it? Think he'll like it? WTH? Anyone who doesn't like that needs their pulse checked. She's a beauty, and I don't even like strats.2 points

That is one nice lookin' axe, that's a fantastic build! Your buddy should be very pleased! So, is there a "Bond, James Bond" connection with the serial number?2 points

Instead of the rubber strip on the lower side of the Flying Vees, they should have put one around that corner.2 points

Howdy, I have a few instruments I'm posting here FS or FT, as I'm hoping to get some new inventory in the shop. Trades considered for guitars/basses or pedals only. +/- cash as needed. Preference to Hamers, but will consider anything! We donate a portion of every sale back to community programs. Dave's pricing is typically great, but isn't that still a little high for one of those?1 point

Thanks! I think he's gonna love it. It was just happy coincidence that this is my 7th build... although number 6 isn't actually finished yet. LOL I sorta jumped this one to the front of the queue.1 point

Some interesting Treble Bleed info here. I use them on every guitar. https://guitarnuts2.proboards.com/thread/5317/treble-bleed-circuit1 point

I know I have talked about this outfit before....These cables are SUPPOSED to be compatible with your plugs and are under $.50 per foot. I have not tried this, but it is worth a look. I am very happy with everything I have bought from BTPA. Though my preference is the extra low cap cable, with the "silent" plug. https://btpa.com/Bulk-Product/Cable/Guitar-Line-LevelBP/CA-0492.html#product-details-tab-description1 point

You are listening differently. By now we have heard the people influenced by the people who were influenced by Hendrix, and maybe another generation or two. Just listening to Hendrix and comparing him to all the new guys or other good guitar players from our youth is worthwhile. He really did stand out. Like all blues based players, Hendrix would have been pushed aside for a while in the 80s. He would have still been making money, though.1 point

Jimi was VERY rooted in the blues, yet by the time of his death, he was moving towards a heavy funk sound...he would have loved the 70s...1 point

Still a nice looking Standard. A bit pricy for my taste. Iโd put a set of FilterTrons it. And possibly a pickguard.1 point

I was just listening to one of my favorite albums of all time: Rules by Supagroup. I remember what seems like a couple decades ago when the board was talking it up. Same thing with Godspeed the Shazam. Both incredible albums that I never would have heard without the HFC. This place doesnโt suck.1 point

Level sanded and polished my buddy's cherry and ziricote Strat over the past couple of days. Hope to be assembling it this weekend. Apologies for the sh!tty background.1 point

Great guitars if you're Richard Kiel or Ted Cassidy. They should be called, "Millstone."1 point

This weekend, I began to shoot additional top coats. In these pictures the ziricote is beginning to level and fill but it still has a few coats to go before it's level. I shot a little bit of "instant bar room funk" on the maple neck. My buddy wanted an old maple look so this is what I came up with. It is UV-aged nitro with amber and brown tints added. OK, that's pretty much caught up to real time. I've completed the finish coats on the neck. (We're leaving it in a satin sheen) The body continues to get more top coats. I had to take a step back today and dro1 point

Here is some more progress on the cherry/ziricote Strat build. Installing the trem bushings with a very special hammer. Mounted the neck and installed the trem. Tuners were installed. Wired up the pickguard. This one is getting the SD Everything Axe set. Wired humbucking by default with coil splitting push/pull on the volume pot to split the bridge and neck pickups. The middle pickup isn't suitable for splitting. Assembled and ready for a test drive. Here it is sitting next to its sibling.1 point

Next up, I started working on the neck carve. I marked out key measurements and started to cut preliminary facets with rasps. More facets are cut. And the facets get blended together gradually. Close to completion here. I like to use a single light source when getting into the detailed part of shaping. It really helps to highlight areas that need smoothing. The transition is still a bit on the bulky side here, but it's gonna look slick with just a little more massaging. A piece of bone was fitted to the nut sl1 point

Well, I left the body in the bag over night. (yeah, I see it. ) I took it out the next day and was pleasantly surprised. The joint looks to be fairly tight, just needs a little touch up in a few spots. I trimmed the top flush at the router table. I noticed that I did get a crack along a grain line. You can see where glue came through due to the vacuum. Not sure if it was there all along or not, as that would not be uncommon for a rosewood. I'll apply some CA and sand it in and it should make it disappear. The crack is completely tight, which is great. My wife snuck in1 point

Back in April, my buddy Mike convinced me to make a Strat for him. I was neck-deep in other projects, but I finally got started on it in June. Not sure if I mentioned it earlier, but when I started my first Strat project, I made two necks. So, I was able to save some work for Mike's guitar. I was hesitant to build an instrument for anyone else to buy, so we agreed that he would just pay my actual material costs. It would let me gain some experience and he might get a decent guitar out of the deal. To keep costs down, I had him choose wood from material that I had on hand. He loved the lo1 point

When I got that Strat assembled and playable, I took a quick detour and made the Precision bass which I already posted, but just for the hell of it, here's a quick picture of the end result of that build. But back to the Strat. I had been wanting a classic 50's Fender 2 color sunburst, but I hadn't ever done one. I have a decent spray rig and I'm pretty comfortable with most spraying operations. I had some doubt about doing a sunburst over a cherry body. For one thing, the color is going to change. It just will, and there isn't a damn thing I can do about it. Once it begins t1 point

OK, I get catching some eyeballs with a little T&A to sell some things, like light beer. But what the hell is the strategy here? Hoping someone clicks that hot honey in the picture, goes to the ad and realizes, "You know what? I really do need some vintage RCA tubes and completely forgot!" https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Rca-Vacuum-Tube-12AX7-ECC83-Vacuum-Tube-12AX7-ECC83-Black-Plates/184426866137?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160811114145%26meid%3D6be2d67bc5e3459ea3c5f0f5ecb3a755%26pid%3D100667%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D8%26mehot%3Dnone%26sd%3D184426866137%26itm0 points
