  1. My very first Hamer: ...was this '81 Special, back in '87. I got it as a backup to my LP but it quickly became #1. While it's not a pencil, the neck was a bit smaller than what I like now. It got to the point of never leaving the case. The thought of selling it after 35 years just seemed....wrong, but not using it seemed wrong as well. So, because I reeeeally needed it to go to the right person, I gifted it to my drummer's kid. He couldn't be happier. In his mid-20s, he is an amazing multi-instrumentalist (drums, bass, keys, vocals, etc...) and now his guitar playing has improved as well. I also gave him 'The Book' and the tour DVD so he'd get the background and a better understanding of why these things are so great. I did stipulate that he can't paint it or sell it while I'm alive. The ugly gray is part of its charm, and selling it would just be, well, rude. I know it's getting used and appreciated, and he'll take great care of it. So - win/win. Plus - I always know where it is....

  2. Local Summer Concert series we do every year. Was a blast as usual. Broke out my '77 Ibanez Rocket Roll Sr.

  3. From this past weekend. An outdoor alley gig that the promoter moved indoors when a storm pattern moved in. Have to admit that playing on a theater stage is a lot of fun.

  4. I sold mine for what I paid, to the penny. My main interest when I got it was to be part of the launch of what I figured would be an awesome guitar company. I figured that if I loved the guitar, great, but Mike needed to get off the ground and I wanted to be a contributor. Like others, the Standard body shape will never be for me, but whatever... I knew there was no way I'd be underwater on number 21, and it was fun to own while it lasted.

  13. I think about what I'd sell off and then I think that it's easier to think about what I'd keep. Three basses, photographic gear, & the clothes on my back in the '87 Shelby GLHS and it's "Road Trip Time".

  17. So the only band member who should be wearing shorts on stage isn't? What's up with that?

  21. Frenzel doesn't have a real power scaling feature, the load dump is to power resistors, but it scales rather nicely to three levels. I have the 50Watt standalone amplifier. Bonus: Everything is on sale over there.

  24. Agree. That bird's eye top is gorgeous, no doubt. But in my heart of hears, I kind of really most like the lacy oak/snakewood top of my first "Hamer"...a Korean import Stellar 1. Might have to try and find a strat body with such a top...thanks for stimulating more Guitar Lust!

  25. That’s KISS, right there. A certain swagger/attitude that other lineups always seem to overshoot.

  28. I really like Ibanez, along with Yamaha, two steady bang for the buck brands. ( Not too much experience with their higher end offerings).
