  1. I'm still going through my Jake E. Lee phase, and also my superstrat phase, so this should be no surprise. I have always wanted another SSH to replace the EBMM Luke III I had, or still have somewhere, but finding one that is set up so that the volumes aren't vastly different is hard. I remember @LucSulla saying that the pickup set was very balanced on his Jake E Lee in Lavender Pearl, and then I noticed that the Music Zoo in Long island (about 1.5 hours away) had one in stock that was "used excellent", so I went to check it out. The pickup set is slightly different on this guitar, being that the JB in the bridge has an Alnico II magnet instead of an A5, but the rest of the setup is the same. I'm not sure how the neck compares, but I like it, and it's got a nice shape. Now some may say "Dave, you hate guitars with gold hardware, so wtf?". Well the bridge and jack plate aren't gold, they are brass. The rest of the hardware is black, and the finish is just a beautiful color. Sure it's not translucent or sparkly, but this reminds me a lot of the old "blueburst" that EBMM used on some guitars in the late 80s, including the early Steve Morse guitars, before they switched to a translucent finish. It plays VERY well, I'm just on the fence about keeping the .009-.042 strings on it, or going to the .010-46 I usually use. The sound is great, and once I get the setup exactly where I want it, it's gonna be great. Now if only the weather had been great. Holy crap people do not know how to drive in heavy rain / almost whiteout conditions.

  3. I found this PRS listed on my local FBMP for sale. I REALLY wanted this guitar, but I wasn’t about to pay his asking price. I contacted him to see if he would be interested in any trades. He mentioned some amp and asked what guitars I’d be willing to trade. I mentioned a few and he was ver interested in a ‘08 Gibson LP I had. Sent a few picks, and he said he was very interested. He lived about 39 minutes away, so I decided to take the guitar so we could audition eash others guitar. After we tried out each others guitar, we decided to do the trade. He even went the extra mile and said he’d install new strings snd intonate it. The other plus is this guitar has a pair of PRS 57/08’s installed , and they sound AMAZING. Anyway here’s my new to me guitar. ‘94 PRS Goldtop Standard 24

  4. Hadn't seen this one either for a while (about 47 years). One of the nursing assistants that's caring for the Missus is the daughter of the bass player, and she sent this. This was caused some retrospection and introspection for various reasons. For one thing it was taken around the time my first marriage was imploding. The band was named Sunstorm, and this picutre dates from Spring 1977. Perusing this closely is interesting concerning the gear: Donnie, the lead guitarist, played a Les Paul Deluxe, I played a Gibson L6-S and John the bassist had a Rick 4001 (he was good; he could play "Sailor's Hornpipe" on it). My amp was a undistinguished Kustom 4 X 10. It appears I've got a can of Finger-Ease on the top of the amp, and methinks those are some off-brand/cheap copies of Kalso Earth Shoes (negative heel) with which I have my right foot entangled in the guitar cord. Donnie was also the guitarist in Executive Rock (earlier trio photos posted here); after Sunstorm split he'd played on my demo album and had been pestering me to start performing live again after eight years; Executive Rock cranked up in early '86 and lasted about four years. He died in 2004.

  5. I also prefer the traditional models. I paid $3,600 to have this one made.

  7. Yesterday I recorded some leads. Used the Korina Standard for the solo. Sweet tone! Also used the Vector XT for some extra stuff. This is how the solo sounds —raw mix, nothing “hi-fi” here for you sound geeks, OK? 😛 The Vector XT, I used it to record some double stops on one track. The other double stops track was also with the Standard: Enjoy!

  8. My latest mop crown installation, this was a very satisfying project and they look incredible, they are luminous, gathering whatever light is in the room and glowing at all hours of the day or night... Import Monaco that had ugly plastic victories, so no Hamer USA's were harmed in this project❤🎸

  9. Yes, it's definitely worth attending ... vendor booth space is sold out, and the exhibition floor is the fullest I've ever seen it. We are booths 307-308, with 23 custom guitars and basses for hands-on test drives. The show begins at 10am Sat and Sunday at the AgExpo Center. Come make noise with us!

  11. I was lurking around Cream City's website for a few weeks. One day they had a 15% off sale on used items. I thought, "Sheeit...a grand/shipped for a USA superstrat?" A little background. Grover Jackson ran the Washburn shop in Chicago from '93-96. He designed a few superstrats for them. USA models said, "Handcrafted in Chicago" on the neckplate and, "Made in the USA" on the headstock. The imports have laminate tops and say, "Designed by Grover Jackson", on the headstock. I've never played one of the Mercury series, so I was pleasantly surprised at what a finely-made shredder this MG120 is: Mahogany body, solid quilted maple top Quarter-sawn, oiled maple neck, rosewood fb Duncan JB, two SSLs Gotoh locking tuners, Wilkie VS100 trem. I replaced the Duncan straplok buttons and knobs, replacing them with chrome Charvel hardware from Merlin5 CNC in Fullerton, CA. Dig this: the neck is big, like Fender boat-neck big. Actually, more like a '59 LP carve. I can still get around fine on it, it's a player, to be sure. It stays in tune and has big, beefy tone. (It seems my big-necked guitars have more going on in the lower frequencies, maybe it's my imagination). If you see one of these for sale, they are a great, low-priced alternative to other USA superstrats from the '90s

  12. I have owned three of the Talladega Pros. I was convinced it might be the best model they made. Unfortunate the end for Hamer came too soon for more to be made. But mine are all gone. Why? I played them side by side with the guitar many say Jol was trying to emulate and they came up a bit short. It just did not make a lot of sense to keep the Tallys, when the Dolphin just fit me so much better. (Fit and feel and subjective, so YMMV). I also had a couple Super Pros. Got it down to one and that one is a long term keeper. Fits me almost as well as the Dolphin. Liked it so much that I used a mix of it and the Dolphin as the basis for my Shishkov, with a few refinements. As you might expect, Mike just nailed it. IF I were able, I would have Mike build me a second (or third) based in part upon a Super Pro (and some "refinements"). Which is to say, hollow or semi-hollow, larger body, etc. Maybe call it a mashup of a SuperPro and Rietbergen(?) But it looks like that is not going to come to fruition. I may get that done with a different builder.... All, BTW, the longer scale. Now the Super Pro I did keep is something special......Custom order with ebony, korina and Lollars..... FWIW, the Tally Pro I liked best was upgraded, also with Lollar Imperial pickups. But some will prefer a hotter pickup.

  15. Selling my 2008 Standard Korina. Essentially a flawless guitar. Almost has a 3-D figuring in the wood which I have never seen in a Korina guitar (maybe you have). Special ordered as the last batch of Korina guitars before Fender took over. Looks to be a two piece body and 3 piece neck. Slight tarnishing to the pickup covers. Includes OHSC, case candy, COA. They are only this nice until some careless fool gets hold of it. Would like it to go to someone in the HFC fam who will take care of it. $6200 plus shipping.

  16. Here was the workaround I mentioned. Another Talladega courtesy of @lang. This also deepens the mystery surrounding the custom 'Dega that started this. The neck profiles are not at all alike. The V shape on the Custom Tally starts with a V but gets noticeably softer as it goes up the neck, turning into almost a modern C shape. I'd never have known that until this one came in today. I'm wondering if the Mahogany one was ordered with a Tally-Pro neck profile? So far what I know is different about the first one is the Mahogany top and the neck profile. I think I lucked into a pretty unique specimen with that one. The one Lang sent is quite rad too, and exactly what I was looking for - something that plays (more or less) like the initial Talladega but has more of a gibson thing. The WCR pickups in it are rowdy. Funny how when you start gigging a lot it really shakes out what is a great guitar for the house and what is a great guitar to play for three hours. I'll miss the Gibby I just sold, but this one is going to get far more work.

  18. This is about as nice a Hamer Korina Standard as I've ever seem (YMMV). Hamer really made some spectacular guitars towards the end. Those 10K Gibson Explorers look pretty weak in comparison. https://reverb.com/item/80861844-hamer-custom-order-standard-korina-explorer-2008-vintage-korina

  19. Never thought the day would arrive... but I'm selling off my remaining 2 beloved heavily modded Cali Elite Limited Editions. I just don't play them as much anymore. Most of you who know me, know the story behind these. If not, PM me and I'll fill you in. '89 Cali LE's with mods to control configuration, Floyd cavity length and finish. Upgrades include stainless jumbo frets, Orig. Floyd, Gravelin Mongoose in the bridge, Gravelin SC in the neck on the Swirly and a SD Hot Rails on the Cali-oactive. Schaller strap locks & a Kill switch tone pot on both. These things fookin' RAWK. Both come with a OHSC. $2400 each + shipping.

  20. Calling all baby boomers and beyond, I was cleaning up and found a few boxes (30-40) old bootleg VHS tapes (for those that remember, they are played in a VCR). Some of these shows are probably on YouTube, many of them are semi-pro shot (some are single hand-held camera) local shows so you get the good/bad/incredible - no overdubs to correct things. Free to anyone interested in them, I only ask that you cover the shipping (~$30) and I'll stuff as many as I can into a large Flat Rate USPS box. Sorry I don't have time to be selective on the shows or bands, what you get is what goes in the box, but I'll make sure it is a good mix of bands. Offer available til the end of this month and then like all good 80's rockers, these will go to a cut-out bin in the sky never to be seen again except at Wal-Mart. Email me at [email protected] if you have interests or have any questions. **added bonus for the first to act, I have the 3 night Cheap Trick Album show in Philly that has our very own Steve and Chris Matthes front row and stage right - there to collect Rick's guitar when he handed it to them during the show. You'll feel like you just got mono from drinking that Rolling Rock that Rick use to hand out to the audience. But wait there is more -respond in the next 30 minutes and I"ll throw in a special surprise Hamer related item, I guarantee only a few select people have. That's all folks.

  21. Well, gents, it appears it is indeed all mahogany. So I guess I own an ever-elusive, all mahogany Talladega. No color change at all between the cap and back.

  24. By the way, I composed the solo on the Vector XT. I installed a Seymour Duncan V8 pickup on its bridge —that’s George Lynch’s signature. I practiced the solo for a couple of days, and that’s why it took me just two takes finally. In this “live on my living room” short, my timing is still a bit off, but the solo was already starting to flow:

  32. The late Ken Jones used to have a similar issue with seeing certain Robin guitars for sale without their OHSC. Guitars which were uniquely-shaped and likewise needed a unique case which somehow disappeared. "Where did the original case go? They couldn't use it for anything else, so where is it??" It bugged him to no end.
