  1. I didn't have to type as many words, But yours are very articulate and say it best, next to AC @ 2:50 anyway .
  2. Keeping things fresh by mixing in parts of a 30+-year-old song? Can't say I agree with that take, but Alice is indeed still bringing it. The hippies are cheesed that bands like Alice Cooper are playing at Bonnaroo because it represents how the fest has become bloated, corporate and a far, far cry from what it was originally. Not unlike how the Sunset Strip rockers are still bitter toward the grunge nerds for kicking their asses to the curb. Or how you like a band when they're obscure, but when they become mainstream, you like them less. It's also the plain and simple fact that Alice Cooper does not hold the same ideals as most of the Bonnaroo crowd. Most of the Bonnaroo attendees identify with the 99% and Alice is a 1% devotee. There is a HUUUUUGE political chasm between Alice Cooper and the Bonnaroo audience. That is the biggest reason for the backlash. Well, since you used the "P" word, Alice explains his politics at 2:50
  3. Man Zen, Cut me to the quick! Alice Cooper was the king of my boyhood from 5th ('73) grade up into high school. None of the other bands who played the festival were around back then (excepting Kenny Rogers) So there is no nostalgia with them like there is with Coop. Do I listen to Coop now, rarely. Would I buy his albums now, no. Do I think he's cool, yes, over the top. He overcame severe alcohol dependency and other demons, rose on to the top and is a healthy and kind individual with a healthy family. I can remember seeing him in the 70's; he sounded like shit. He couldn't sing in tune and his voice sounded like a weasel and he was out of breath, possibly from all the drinking. I was disappointed in my idol after that. What I saw today is The Coop he should have been then, and the man is 65 years old too and looked and sounded strong. So that's why I wasted my time watching him. I also watched other bands too. I watched about 4 minutes of Das Racist, that's 4 minutes of my life I'll never get back. "All of his songs are weak" The early stuff I liked then were well written and performed. Just like I said above, Halo of flies was incredible. I saw the Melvins play it but is wasn't The Coop. "What 20 something knows him" How 'bout my boy who is not yet 18. And you can look at any concert photos and see young people. He's huge over seas too. "Classic rock stations don't play him" I just heard School's out the other day. Besides, classic rock stations around here are playing Linkin Park, Dead First, and Metallica.
  4. Coops on now: Black Widow, ??, I'm Eighteen, Under My Wheels, Billion Dollar Babies, No More Mr. Nice Guy, Hey Stupid, ??, __ Shit on my face!! __Halo Of Flies - I never thought I'd see him perform this one. The were dead on too, very tight. That was my favorite song in the 5th grade. Bite Your Face off, Muscle Of Love, Izonly Wizoman Blizeed - dances with his blow-me-up-suck-me-suzie doll --Classic!!, Cold Ethyl , Feed My Frankenstein, Cafeine Went to lunch and missed the rest. Hopefully will be available on YouTube or another rebroadcast.
  5. They're rebroadcasting now. Hopefull I'll catch it today.
  6. Again, my congratulations. Hold off on the bean burritos on your wedding night.
  7. Congrats to you and your future missus. But, I'm new here. I see 4 dudes in the photo and 3 have Gigolettes to their left. Which are you?
  8. That is correct, the pickguard is pearloid too. That I couldn't tell you as I've never seen a MIK Daytona except on e-bay.
  9. That is so true and so elequentely spoken. It wasn't long ago that I had a big belly laugh while driving Brandon home from school. He made me laugh so hard I don't even remember what it was. He made me laugh so hard I nearly hit the curbside. But when I was done I realized I had used muscles that haven't been used in a very long time. I then felt guilty for it. But I have been feeling peace lately, and also guilt for feeling that way. I laughed once or twice on the 15th and choked it off because I thought it inappropriate. The hole is still there but it seems that it is finding a new place less prominent to allow other chords to level over it. But it is still there and I think it will always be. I think of my son every day, not as obsessively as before, but he is in my thoughts all day, every day. Thank you all for your kind remarks, --Michael
  10. tomteriffic explained it best. I have a set of these and it was my #1 guitar. You can read about it in my blog. I am a Gilmour freak and would play along with his DVDs. I say it was my #1 guitar because my son and I are working on something heavier at the moment. You can't go wrong with the DG-20s. I'd sell you mine if I weren't going to return to them which says something. They are not for sale.
  11. The Rabbit Hole didn't catch me today, at least not yet. Brandon and I drove to the marker when he got out of school and placed some new flowers. The candles were still there from previous night time visits, which is nice to know. I've been thinking about his timeline a lot today and driving there brought me back to wondering what was going through his mind and which path he walked. I still wonder where his shoes are and his cell phone and Tool key chain.
  12. Thanks for all your support. The rabbit hole is calling me this morning but I'm going to step over it. In about 4 minutes, on a morning just like this one where it rained all night, as it did last night, my son was pronounced dead at the scene. I still don't understand it. I'm planning to drive to Bowling Green later today and place some new flowers at the marker.
  13. May you never be broken again. I love you Joel I hope to see you again http://youtu.be/uv-EZx-qI_8
  14. Should that read, I have >a< very little dignity? Pet names, you know.
  15. The ones with the headphone jack! Congrats on the amp and what sounds like 24 years of bliss.
  16. Got the Dunlops from BTMN just in time for my B-Day. I'm going to GC for a strap to put them on tomorrow. Thanks again Gene!
  17. Thanks again, Gene. Hopefully they are "well broken in." And I can get my own strapon instead of burrowing my son's.
  18. Finally got my lazy ass out of the chair and put my son's strap on. Thanks for everyone's help with the strap locks. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be either and the added new dimension of being able to move around the room was cool. I never new what I was missing. Shows to go ya you should try new positions. I did notice though that after a few beers it was tricky hitting the right spot, something that is easier when seated. All in all I really enjoyed it. My heels do hurt a bit today though. Seriously though, thanks to everyone who chimed in on the strap lock post. My son had a strap already rigged with the Dunlops (like I said, who knew; right?) so it was a no brainer to start there. I'll check out some of the other brands mentioned next time I'm at Sam Ash. This is a hurdle I needed to overcome. I must have had a bad experience as a kid or something I don't remember because I really can't rationalize why I was so reluctant to stand up and play. I feel like Howard Dean when he rolled up his sleeves and exclaimed, "RArrrrgghhhhhaaaaa". But wait, he lost the nomination for doing that. Oh well, here's to you guys and here's to me. Thank you, --Michael
  19. My wife doesn't listen to much music and I think she's tone deaf but for some reason she bought a Nickel Back CD. I hid it and she soon forgot about it.
