  1. Picked this up the 'bay back in July.  It definitely needed some lovin', but you don't see a lot of Proto II's with Floyds.  I couldn't tell, but I thought for sure that the "GK" was sprayed over the original finish.  I was wrong.  It was done at the factory.  Does anyone know the back story on this guitar or who GK could be?  The case has a GK sticker on the outside, so maybe they were relatively famous?  Anyway, it sounds and plays great.  I had the Floyd and a Slammer Humbucker in my parts bin.  All I had to buy was the R2 nut.  It was missing two of the tuners.  Does anybody have a couple Hamer stamped Schaller mini M6's laying around that they could sell me?

  2. Finally got it together...for now.  Pearly Gates in the bridge.  Fender Shawbucker in the neck.  Speed knobs were all I had in the parts bin, so I threw those on there.  I'm still planning to get the Dimazios rewound, but for now, I'll play it like it is.  It sounds really good...excellent note definition.  The only thing I had to buy for it was the Shawbucker, which was $50.

  3. I actually strung it up Friday night.  It's going to be a really bright guitar....very good note separation up and down the fretboard.  I had to tighten the truss rod a 1/4" turn... now the action is nice and low.  It plays cleanly.  The nut needs some attention, but I was expecting that when a saw that it had probably been strung lefty at one time, due to the strap button hole on the lower horn.  Now I've got to build a wiring harness and wait for the pickups.  I didn't get a chance to check out it's "tap tone", lol.

  4. Got the Special today!  The gamble paid off.  It's really in good shape.  I was hoping it would have the checkerboard decal.  Of course, the neck is on the skinny side, but it's 1 5/8" at the nut, which is not preferable, but okay with me.  I'm going to wait on the original pickups before I start putting it together.  They should be here mid next week.  I'm hoping they're not dead like the seller said.  If they are, I'll get them rewound Josh.

  5. Looks like it's going to arrive on Friday via UPS.  The seller has some of the parts which I'm also trying to acquire, including what sounds like the original neck pickup.  He says it's black and white, so I'm assuming it's the original DiMarzio zebra.  He say the bridge pickup is black, so that sucks.  He's looking for the pots and switch.  Hopefully I can make a deal.  I'll keep y'all updated.

  6. I snagged it for $650.  The seller had 100% positive feedback on over 1,200 sales.  I'm pretty sure it was a photoshop glitch on that one photo that looks like the neck is broke off.  The other photo of the neck and fingerboard doesn't have that black smudge thingee.  But, he doesn't show anything above the 9th fret.  The seller has sold some guitars in the past, but doesn't have anything currently, so I can't know if this is how he always posts pics of his guitars.  I guess I'll find out in about a week.

  7. I had a cherry '86 that had a wide neck that I couldn't get used to. I'm not sure of the dims., but it was wider than my '82 Sunburst and '85 A5. I liked the sound of those two better also, so I sold it. I think BadgerDave had it for awhile and then moved it. It was very clean, however and I loved the looks of it.
