I recently did some significant downsizing of gear that I've accumulated over the years, mostly larger amps and speaker cabinets, but some guitars as well. I had already decided that I didn't want to ship or deal with individual sales, so selling or trading to Guitar Center was the easiest option. Like you, I wanted to have a good idea of the retail value of my stuff so I could determine if what GC was willing to pay was reasonable compared to what I could get if I tried to sell everything individually. Google and AI were worthless. Ebay wasn't much better, mostly because it didn't have recent sales of most of what I was selling. But the "sold" prices they did publish seemed suspect as well. The two sources that were reliable were Reverb and Guitar Center. On Reverb, I searched sold listings and filtered by "most recent first". I then deducted the cost of shipping and Reverb's seller fees to get a "net to me" estimate. I searched Guitar Center's "Used and Vintage" listings and assumed actual selling prices are 10% less. My primary goal was to clear out large, heavy and seldom used gear. I ended up trading everything for two guitars, Because I was trading rather than getting cash, I received very favorable offers. Based on my research, better than 60% of retail. Considering that we ended up with GC paying me $300 in cash after the trade, I also saved the 10% (Illinois and Cook County) sales tax on the guitars I purchased.

Thanks for all of the comments and interest. This one is sold. Excellent condition, all original, wiring looks untouched, no visible fret wear. 7 lbs. 4oz. Some tarnish on the pickup covers. No finish defects other than very light swirling as is unavoidable with a black finish. I doubt there is a cleaner one out there. $1,299.00 plus insured shipping. $100 east of the Mississippi, $150 west. (I'm probably going to lose money on that. I just paid $200 to ship a guitar UPS ground to California.) Plus transaction fees if the buyer wants to use and added-charge form of payment. Willing to meet within a reasonable distance of the western Chicago suburbs/ Rockford area and waive the shipping.

I was in and out pretty quickly. Nothing really caught my eye. Lots of well worn Gibsons and Fenders at very optimistic prices. I was mildly interested in finding a 70's LP Deluxe at a reasonable price and weight. No luck. I saw one deluxe. The rare red sparkle finish but very faded and overall in poor condition. Asking $22,500.00! 😳

@bubs_42 @Travis @RacerX If anyone in the Chicago area is interested. I can bring these to the Chicago Guitar Expo https://www.dejawuguitars.com/guitar-show-calendar/chicago-vintage-guitar-expo-wedp6 Willing to let these go for well below market prices for an in -person deal. The Anniversary is in near mint condition, 100% original with untouched wiring and perfect frets. As clean as a used black guitar can be. $1,200 w/ Hamer logo HSC The Artist Custom has DiMarzio DP309 PAF 57 pickups but otherwise original. It's in excellent condition with the OHSC. Priced at $2,500 Has some very slight binding seperation in the upper cutaway. It had Duncan Seth Lovers installed when I got it, not sure if these were original. I'll include these for an extra $100.00. I

I'm planning on being there, probably early.

Have you taken the neck off? Warmoth would definitely build a body with those features.

Most Famous Person you played with?
BadgerDave replied to hamerhead's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
In the late 70's I somehow talked my way into the guitarist chair with the Madison Area Technical College Jazz Ensemble and stayed for a couple of semesters. Mostly because I kept my amp volume so low nobody could hear me. Our bandleader was a highly talented player with connections in the old school big band circles. He was able to book Woody Herman's band for a show at the school and, the day of, Woody came in early and played a song with us. We did not speak. Later in life, I worked with a law firm in Richmond, Virginia that represented local artists GWAR and Lamb of God. I negotiated LoG's first record contract with Metal Blade and did a lot of corporate work for GWAR. Robin Zander hugged me once at a trade show. I worked for the company that hired Cheap Trick to perform. @Hamerhead is the only one who will recognize these names, but I hung with the Madison bar band crowd in the 80's: Swad, Gil Jevne, John Masino, Robby "Strange" Alexander, Rich Hayne (Little Vito), Mark Frederick and Matt Ahrens of "The And", and, shortly before he passed, I had the honor and privilege of working on a soundtrack with Boyd Williamson (aka Zoid Asteroid Machine) of the Vers. Those were the best of times.- 49 replies

PSA - It's Raining Daytonas!
BadgerDave replied to velorush's topic in For Sale - Wanted to Buy - PIF - eBay & Other PSAs
Forgive me for the following negativity: I owned several Daytonas in the early 2000's. To me, they felt like slightly oversized, heavier and clunkier vesions of Stratocasters. I disliked the Wilkinson VSV bridges, which are inelegantly designed and uncomfortable to rest your hand on. They're also magnets for dust and gunk as well as being a pain to adjust. To me, the neck radius was too flat and the fingerboard felt too wide. I also disliked the Sperzel locking tuners. For my preferences, a Fender USA vintage reissue or a Warmoth build is a better solution. As much of a Hamer fan as I am, IMO, they made a subpar SSO (Strat shaped object). -
Stupid question, explain Strat pickup positions to me
BadgerDave replied to bry4321's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I've modified my Strat with a blender pot that allows combining the neck and bridge pickups. The Bridge with a with about 20% of the neck and vice versa provide excellent lead tones. Equal amounts of bridge and neck are gerat for a full rhythm sound. I rarely use any other pickup settings. -

Monaco for sale Canada.
BadgerDave replied to spanky's topic in For Sale - Wanted to Buy - PIF - eBay & Other PSAs
That's $9,000 Canadian. $6,377 and change in real money. Still . . . -
I think you're likely right about this. But note that I qualified my statement with the word "logical". Assuming Irsay accumulated his collectionfor the reason you propose, he was acting emotionally, rather than logically. Lots of people disagree, but I place no value at all on an inanimate object's relationship with a celebrity. I also don't understand the appeal of autographs, unless, of course, they can be sold to people who do value them. I think at this point, the "greater fool theory" is solidly in play with respect to collectable guitars. It will be interesting to see the selling prices. Just my opinion of course. 😄

Excellent condition with very light play wear. Frets are free of divots, clean and polished This guitar has barely been played and is in perfect working condition and near perfect cosmetic condition. Vintage profile neck, 100% original with no modifications, and light weight at 7 lbs. 5 oz. The USA Hamer case is period correct, 100% functional and in good to very good cosmetic condition. The HFC discount price 1s $1,875.00 shipped, US only. Sorry, too many potential issues with international shipping at the moment. I'd love to sell it here rather than Reverb, hence the great price. I'll list it elsewhere for a few hundred more in a week or so.

My opinion only, but I think the value of these guitars has topped out and will decline as time passes. The group of people who idolized the players associated with these instruments is decreasing rapidly. The only logical reason to pay $1M for a guitar is the expectation of appreciation in value. SRV's Stratocaster has no more intrinsic value as a musical instrument than mine. So, as appreciation for the guitar-based rock music of the late 60s through the early 90s fades, so will the bragging rights and investment potential associated with owning a rock star guitar diminish. I think we've hit the tipping point, and it will be a swift ride down. The one exception may be guitars associated with Kurt Cobain. These may hold steady or increase in value for a while for two reasons: 1) Nirvana was hugely popular with a much younger age group, and 2) Kurt's guitars have value as cultural icons to a far greater audience than guitar players or collectors. A 40 year old tech billionaire is far more likely to covet a Cobain artifact (whether a guitar or sweater) than a guitar played by Eric Clapton. The Irsay daughters likely realize that their dad's collection is a depreciating asset and the time to sell is now.

Bumping with discounted option. I have a genuine Hamer hardshell case from the correct era for this guitar that fits it perfectly. It has the gold Hamer USA logo and is exactly the same model that would have come with this guitar. The problem is, the case was exposed to water at some point in its history. It is completely dry now and cosmetically very good, but it has some separation of the interior padding, the interior strap that connects the bottom to the top is detached, and it has a faint musty smell. There is also some separation of the vinyl from the wood on the bottom edge. It works fine as a case. I'll reduce the price of this guitar to $2,250 shipped with the case described above.
