strange things are afoot at the Circle K.....

Tilting at windmills I'm always trying To knock things down Or bring 'em around But they don't come down They won't come around Like society Or that girl that I used to see Now these are things that just don't change But I'm tilting at windmills All the same

Of course you do. But when you go OUT OF YOUR WAY to rail against shred music (which isn't my thing either; I feel the same way about it as Brooks does) you can and should expect to be called out on it. You don't like shred. We get it. So why chime in on this thread unless you wanted to stir something up? Maybe that's exactly what you wanted to do; hell, I do it all the time myself. Just don't go getting all defensive when someone reacts. After all, isn't that what you wanted? A reaction? Well done, sir ... you got it. Now then. What's the REAL reason you hate shred/hair metal? Are you jealous that you didn't/don't have the work ethic/talent to achieve that level of skill? Did the people who threw you in lockers and kicked your ass in high school listen to hair metal? Does the sight of men dressed up as women cause a tingling in your loins that you're not comfortable with? Honestly ... WHAT THE FUCK IS IT? my issue with this music is that it doesn't do ANYTHING for me..jealous of technique? not one bit..I'm not saying they don't have talent for their trade, but it doesnt say anything! It's one thing to have a rhythm section set up up so you can wing some chops and show off, but another thing entirely when you can play as a part of the song...it's the song baby!! Don't throw out an E minor comp and then just wail away showing off your dexterious digits! It seems that these shredders like to throw out Hendrix and Van Halen as influences, but have completely missed the "feeling" for the song! I'll give EVH props for his style cos it was new and whatnot and well..Hendrix is Hendrix,'nuff said..But, I think EVH played with more heart..and THAT is the difference..no heart, no soul...it dosen't even come to me NOT liking VH, but giving him some respect for his talent.. and for the record, NOBODY threw me in a locker in school, nobody beat my ass at anytime in my life, other than my dad when he caught me smoking when I was 9... I'm just too nice a guy...

is this Bizarro world you live in, nice? maybe I'll come for a visit...

souless wankery yes..when you compare his music to Townes Van Zandt, Elliot Smith, Christian Kjellvander, and Dylan, yes...yes and double yes.. But you guys can listen to whatever you like...I'm entitled to my opinion as much as you..
-
as soon as I don't have to hear about AC/DC, KI$$ or Van Halen.... Sorry..but this guy is a monster..to me he's the Ed Viesturs of great playing right now..

Is there ANYTHING involving even the slightest semblance of advanced technical skill that you like? And no, Margo mumbling the words to "Sweet Jane" as if she just ingested an entire bottle of Valiums doesn't count. Nels Cline... Chet Atkins... if you mean guys like Vai and Satriani and what not, then no I don't... I may not know certain players' names , but I think jazz players have technique galore and I enjoy listening to them.. Advanced technical skill does not equate to good music, especially if it mean I have to listen to 13 minutes of soloing...even blues cats I get sick of at times and I really like SRV, Buddy Guy, Hubert Sumlin, etc..but these "tech guys" turn me off..

not to hijack this thread(much), but my soon to be 12 year old brought with him on his visit, a Joe Satriani disc..Crystal Planet..and to be a good dad, I dropped it in and we spun the first 3 songs and I have this to say: souless wankery..seriously.. glad I'm not a fan.. bleargh..

a friend of mine is going to print up some competition stripes at his print shop... Competition Jagstang!! Surf's Up!! PS..suitcase cars... ; )
-
shhh....not so loud! yes..I traded up from the Epi Les Paul to a 96/97 Fiesta Red Jagstang. now I know there will be some calls from the peanut gallery on this, but I'm extremely happy with it..it has some player wear on it, but it has a very nice feel to it...light body..lighter than any other Jagstang I've played and the smaller body is a perfect fit for me.. And in the aquisition of this guitar, I know own the Kurt AND Courtney models.. sling away!!
