  1. Thanks, y'all! The day itself was kinda meh ~ too much other crap going on. But at the end of the weekend, I still had a brand new Bogner and my trusty Hamers to play through it. So yeah, life is good, lol! Jimbilly ~ I hope you fared well, both birthday-wise and gear-wise! 👍
  2. Not exactly a birthday present ~ I had to sell a couple amps and a cab to get it. But it is my birthday weekend, and I got to spend some time jamming out with an empty house, so that's a good day! At any rate, here we go: the first of (likely too) many clips to come as I get my new rig dialed in ... Let me know what you think! P.S.: Thanks, YouTube, for capturing Goofy Guitar Face #6 in the thumbnail. Much appreesh.
  3. A long, rambling, but (for me) EXCITING unboxing & playthru vid of my BRAND NEW BOGNER XTC 3534 50 WATT HEAD!!! Sounds amazing right out of the box ~ cannot wait to get it fully dialed in & integrated with my pedalboard. Meanwhile, SWEEEEEEEETTTTT!!!!!
  4. I mean, fair. I’m just trying to make up for only having three Hamers by running them thru some decent amps. Some of y’all’s Hamer harems on here are downright godlike to me … and just as unobtainable-seeming. 😳
  5. We’ll see how things still look come December, I spose! 🤣 Not pictured: my Precious — Martin GPC-28E
  6. Thank you! Man, that is a SWEET axe. I’d love to have one of those. ❤️
  7. What model is that? Is it a custom shop one-off? I don’t recognize it, and I thought I’d at least seen pix of all the Hamers there were…
  8. Of course, I just found out today (whilst I’m trying to learn some tunes by Friday) that they play in Eb standard & D standard. Not sure I’ll dig the 9s for down tuning… Hey, it’s always something! 😛
  9. I can dig it. I just don’t think I personally could play it, with anything heavier than 10-13-17 on the top three strings. But I’m definitely going to keep the heavier (10-52) strings on the Newport hollow body, absolutely. 👍
  10. So, wouldn't you know it? Almost as soon as I posted this: I went & made another change. Thing is, I got a chance to audition this Friday for an '80s hard rock/hair metal band. Don't judge me ~ I'm actually from the '80s, and this project sounds fun, lol! So naturally, I busted out my old Ibanez RG470 (with original Wizard neck & everything). It had 10-48s on it, because I've always tended to keep the same gauges on all my guitars no matter what. (Scale length never made that much difference to me in feel ~ certainly not enough to make 10s feel like 9s.) But, as I'm looking at having to learn some old style shreddy stuff this week, I put a set of 9-46s on the Ibby, like I used to use. And then, heresy!, I put a set of 9-46s on my Studio (which I figured I'd use for AC/DC & GnR stuff), as well. Y'all, I was astounded at how good the Hybrid Slinkies sounded, especially on the Studio! With less fundamental and more harmonics, I rather thought the tone, while still beautifully crunchy, was warmer and, well, nicer than with the 10-48s. And that's not to mention of course the increased playability. I knew they'd play easier; I didn't expect them potentially to sound better. Thinking of going back to 9-46 on all the solid bodies. Gonna try 10-52s on the Newport ~ it plays stoopid easy right now with the 10-48s, and I want to try the EB Paradigms, which only come in 10-46 or 10-52. Will let y'all know how those work out. So, yeah. After 3 years or so with the heavier strings, I'm back in the lighter gauge camp again. Can't wait to hear how these guitars & my Budda rig sound this weekend! TL;dr: strings sound good.
  11. My Shiva’s been my main rig for a long time now. A couple years ago, I tried the XTC 3534 with an eye towards replacing the big/heavy rig with something more back-friendly portable, but like you, for me, the 3534 just didn’t have “the sound.” Thanks for the great, detailed post & photo essay!
  12. Fwiw, I’d love to contribute something, and it would be a first time for me here. 👍
