  1. Wow, that's totally bitchin'. Grover sure knows how to design practical hotrods.
  2. Yer kidding me! What are the chances of 3 HFCers having similar Washburns? They didn’t exactly fly off the shelf… Looks like your USA Mercury has, "Designed by Grover Jackson" and, "USA", on the headstock, so that blows a hole in the description in my OP. What year is your MG, Prof?
  3. I was lurking around Cream City's website for a few weeks. One day they had a 15% off sale on used items. I thought, "Sheeit...a grand/shipped for a USA superstrat?" A Little background. Grover Jackson ran the Washburn shop in Chicago from '93-96. He designed a few superstrats for them. USA models said, "Handcrafted in Chicago" on the neckplate and, "Made in the USA" on the headstock. The imports have laminate tops and say, "Designed by Grover Jackson", on the headstock. I've never played one of the Mercury series, so I was pleasantly surprised at what a finely-made shredder this MG120 is: Mahogany body, solid quilted maple top Quarter-sawn, oiled maple neck, rosewood fb Duncan JB, two SSLs Gotoh locking tuners, Wilkie VS100 trem. I replaced the Duncan straplok buttons and knobs, replacing them with chrome Charvel hardware from Merlin5 CNC in Fullerton, CA. Dig this: the neck is big, like Fender boat-neck big. Actually, more like a '59 LP carve. I can still get around fine on it, it's a player, to be sure. It stays in tune and has big, beefy tone. (It seems my big-necked guitars have more going on in the lower frequencies, maybe it's my imagination). If you see one of these for sale, they are a great, low-priced alternative to other USA superstrats from the '90s
  4. "Jealous Lover" and 'Weiss Heim" were not initially released outside of UK/Europe, but I think they made it onto the CD remasters of, "Difficult to Cure." Nice to have them on vinyl, this EP sounds killer.
  5. Spent a few days in Tucson last week. I found two great record shops downtown!
  6. No camo shorts or sneakers. Well done! That’s the way to do it.
  7. Gotta Black Magic Marker Gotta Black Magic Marker I got a Black Magic Marker, black’n out my first fret inlay i gotta black magic marker, now that vic’try’s gone to stay.
  8. Looks great! What size frets did you go with? Is that an ebony board?
  9. Tom, it’s a great FM Special and your price was more than reasonable. Would I have paid $1850 for it? Probably not. Is it worth that much? Absolutely, especially when comparing its features to similar-priced guitars. Hamer’s secret is outta the bag, prices are climbing steadily northward.
  10. “Black Rose” is a ripping album. While I prefer the band chemistry/songs of the classic Robbo-era, Gary Moore adds an aggressive edge to BR. The closing track (“Black Rose”) is a veritable catalog of GM licks/technique and a medley of traditional Irish folk tunes. Surprisingly, the only hit single (UK/Europe) was the ballad, “Sarah”, a song Philo wrote for his baby daughter.
  11. The looper’s not the only one…
  12. In a way, he’s a musical chameleon, similar to Gary Moore. He can stylistically nail any type of blues, hard rock or blues rock. There’s a video clip of Joe and Paul Rodgers doing a few Free songs and it’s incredible. He totally nailed the Kossoff sound. Uncanny!
  13. “Your Majesty! The peasants are revolting!” ”No kidding. They stink on ice!”
  14. Tangentially, why do guitarists hate this guy so much? He plays great and has tons of bitchen guitars. Is it the modern version of Yngwie-scorn?
  15. Interesting. For myself, it’s a toss up between, “Fighting” and, “Bad Reputation.”
  16. They’re misinformed on the MSRP: The Music Zoo ETA: The guitar.com link is for their initial, CS offering with P90s/wraptail. Whatever, still ridiculous at any price.
  17. Welp, they got the headstock right, at least.
