  1. Every room is sooo different. Consistency is tough but once your fundamental tone is good, the fun begins. We used to play this little shithole dive that I initially hated because the stage was a weird shape - which made for an odd set-up - and the sound was always hit or miss (eventually it became my favorite place). One night the stage mix was perfect - I mean, anywhere you stood sounded amazing - and the band just ran with it. I don't know how it sounded out front but if the crowd heard what we heard, they witnessed our best night.
  2. https://www.musiciansfriend.com/stupid Hadn't seen these before. I've been wanting to downsize/lighten up and was thinking about building something from scratch. There's no way I could do what this does for $80, so I'm giving it a try.
  3. • And extra stank. They put extra stank on every one. Maybe in the f-hole.
  4. I had #10 (I think) and it was hands-down THE best Hamer I ever owned. Not sure what or how, but it was a cut above all others. So, yeah, I sold it.
  5. #1. Any sort of time-based stereo effect into two amps (basically a doubler, stereo delay or chorus that isn't dailed up too much). I currently use a Boss DD-6 on my live rig. #2. Not different. Just bigger, better, faster, more. You will definitely notice it and it will spoil you, even with a closed-back 2x12 or 4x12. You don't want much 'effect'. You just need the split and a little time variation. Listen to any stereo recording in mono. Then flip it back to stereo. That's what you'll get.
  6. I've used these on a couple of cabinets: https://www.amplifiedparts.com/products/jack-plate-plug-and-play-mono-stereo Pretty clever and solves a few issues. My favorite speaker is a Eminence Lil Texas, a neodymium variation of the Texas Heat. Punchy, tight low end, rounded highs. They're a little stabby new, but once they're broken in, they sound pretty great (I use Fender amps, mostly). And they are about 1/2 the weight (4 lbs!), which is huge with a 4x12 cab. https://eminence.com/products/lil_texas#description
  7. My last big-watt amp was a Peavey Satriani head that sounded like ass until you hit the sweet spot at about 2/3 volume. And then you couldn't be within 50 feet of it. It was both reeeeeally cool and just stoopid at the same time.
  8. Well, that used to be true....
  9. I don't think I've ever seen a guitar shrug before.
  10. It needs: a 15 watt version, 1/2 the weight, and a footswitch. And a website. Their website sucks. Otherwise it's perfect.
  11. Email sent, Jaye. ETA: Thanks, Jaye! (it was $100 for a Keeley compressor ( https://robertkeeley.com/product/keeley-compressor-plus/ ), for anyone who blinked )
  12. Happy Birthday, Ted! And thanks for giving us misguided souls a place to call home.
  13. Dooood! That is way too nice for a bass player. Your vision - and your ability to make it a reality - is incredible. Thanks for sharing with us mere mortals.
  14. When re-stringing, tune to pitch then give each string 2 healthy tugs at the 12th fret and re-tune. For me it's the G, but the wrap method I use on the post triple locks the string there. If it's still an issue, it's usually binding at the nut or bridge. Check the angle/downward pressure.
  15. Nice one! Those things are alive.
  16. Happy Birthday, both of you! I hope it was good (it sure looks like it!).
  17. Had this '97 first. Sold it. 5 years later, got this '97. Sold it. Both were awesome. I'm an idiot.
  18. Gravelin Cowpie Customs or Duncan Antiquities, with Josh having the edge. The Cowpie Custom Bridge pickup (the one in front) moves the adjustable poles for the E,B and G to the bobbin closer to the neck and reeeeally fattens things up. I'm pretty sure they are a Shlabotnik variant (I can't remember). My LP, Shishkov and Special FM have these installed and the results are phenomenal.
