  1. There are some things that change over time.  Finishes shrink.  The finish sinks into the grain of the wood.  The finish stretches a little.  Hardware and pickup covers will leave impressions that you will only see if you remove them.  Wood is dried and stabilized before being turned into an instrument, but it is still a natural material that reacts to temperature and humidity.  It changes over time even though there are 4000 year old wooden artifacts from King Tut's tomb.  The Mona Lisa is painted on wood and gets inspected regularly for new cracks.

The most pristine used guitars will have some sign of age.  Maybe there needs to be a tutorial video for used guitar buyers.

I ..don't see any cracks? I guess I cannot make it out - are there cracks?

Yes, but not anything you could feel.  If you have seen similar lines in the finish around a bolt-on neck joint you would know what to look for.

  3. If Downing's situation has people scratching their heads about how things could have gone so wrong, no one has seen the business plan.  We do not know if a team of consultants with a good track record were called in for developing the plan.  Sometimes well put together businesses do not make it.

At least we are not reading about the tragic death of a rock star or life in the gutter.  Through all of this, KK Downing still seems like a respectable guy.

Grown men behaving this way. Flat-out embarrassing.

The behavior is not limited to guitar players.  Companies with overly generous customer service practices with regard to complaints have trained people to think they can demand anything they want.  Being a cry baby has its rewards.
