Round-wound strings on Hofner (hollow) basses
Gabe replied to Willie G. Moseley's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I purchased my Hofner Violin Bass 500/1 online from Barry Clark in 2021, with flatwound strings. As I ordered it with white slider knobs and it was delivered with black slider knibs and there were some other problems he gave me a significant refund, even more than I asked for, and I consider that good customer service! To be honest I like the sound and the weight and the playability of that bass guitar better than my Cruise bass with round wound strings. YMMV. Gabe ๐ -

Stupid question, explain Strat pickup positions to me
Gabe replied to bry4321's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
And on the Eric Johnson Strat the first tone pot is for the neck, the second for the bridge, middle pickup does not hava a tone control. Genius idea. But it is only one small jumper wire to have the tone control also work for the middle pickup, if so wished. Gabe ๐ -
Stupid question, explain Strat pickup positions to me
Gabe replied to bry4321's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
That is exactly how I wired my 2004 Fender CS 50th anniversary Stratocaster. 97 % of the time I am using the bridge/middle position with the neck dialed in 50 % for a nice quack, or the neck only Wired this way it is just a flip of the pickup selector switch Wired differentily as a complete blender pot the bridge would be added when switching to the neck position, and that is not what I want Good blender pots are available from Lindy Fralin, with waring scheme Not expensive Gabe ๐ -

How about an Xotic SL-drive into a Fenderish (clean) amp? can that give a convincing Marshall sound? Gabe ๐ -

That was a great watch (and it is from The Netherlands)! To me the 1954 Stratocaster sounds and looks the best. Gabe ๐ -

Especially the bound neck is a big plus in my opinion. My โIrmaโ Tally also has a bound neck. Tallies are great! Gabe ๐

Fantastic! Especially I like the use of Tremolo on the clean guitar (and also in lap steel) as I recently purchased a Tone King Imperial preamp with tremolo. In this album the songs are good, the singing is good, the guitar work is good and the sound is tremendous! Thanks to velorush for drawing my attention to this great album. Gabe ๐

Love Quilters. At the moment at home I am using a Quilter DirectAmp going out to the effects loops of a Quilter Mini101 into a Quilter 10"cab and a Quilter SBUK into an Orange 8" cab loaded with a Celestion TF0818 (with dummy plugs in the Effects send jacks. And Quilter's customer service is top notch (if you ever need it). Gabe ๐

Experience with Tone King imperial pre-amp?
Gabe replied to Gabe's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Thanks Django49 and Santellavision for your very clear and helpful answers. I have one more question: Where does the sound come from if you use the โTo amp inโ, โFrom amp sendโ and โTo amp returnโ jacks? Will the sound when the Tone King preamp is put into bypass mode also come from the active studio monitors or FRFR speakers connected to the XLR outs of the Tone King preamp? if that is the case, is the โTo amp returnโ necessary? Gabe ๐ -
Did anyone here buy and/or try the Tone King Imperial pre-amp. I am tempted to buy it, (even though delivery will take some months), but I would like to learn from your experience. Also how do you use it, in the effects return of one or two guitar amps, with active studio monitors (if so, which), or with FRFR-speakers (if so, which)? Do you use it at home, live, for recording. How do you connect to the DAW? Is it worth it? Or would you advise something else? Gabe ๐
