  1. Don't try any G&L Legacys, that Strat will be doomed...
  2. Dirt cheap USA Highway 1 Tele that I picked up new in 2003/4. It was a GC sale, $500 out the door with a hardshell case (guitar itself was the magic three-fifty!). It's an old photo; now it's wearing a tort pickguard and brass barrels, and a few more divots in the nitro finish. I've been through a number of guitars since, including a couple G&L ASATs, and this one hangs on. It has that feel!
  3. Oh the humanity! The best part was the phone ringing right at the end.
  4. My '95 MIM P-Bass fits the budget. I paid $250 several years ago, it would be $350 now...
  5. 2009. I look forward to visiting again. For the rest of you that haven't been to BCR Music... get off your ass!
  6. For the link above to work, paste the entire line, then delete the "" from the end. I managed to get the webpage up that way.
  7. Microsoft stock in 1979. Bill Gates was advertising in computer geek magazines, looking for investors, and I remember wishing I had a $1000 to invest. Had I done so, then today I could buy all guitars I want - none would get away!
  8. Shows my lack of knowledge. I've been playing bass through solid state amps for so long that tubes are somewhat of a mystery to me... although I am learning!
  9. "Bees wings" figure? we'll need a picture of that!
  10. Rocktuna invoked familial privilege so tonight I picked it up on his behalf. The seller plays progressive metal, so I suspect this guitar sat on the stand in preference of an instrument better suited to metal (he's gone the 7-string route). I would call it good to very good condition. There are some scuffs on the body but no scratches or dings - I think a good buffing would take care of them. Pickguard is unmarked(!). The neck has some dings on the back, the fingerboard is okay (well, needs cleaning) and the frets could use a dressing, but it's very playable as is. Pickups are strong 'n' loud. As advertised, original bridge is corroded (I grabbed it as well). With a little TLC Rocktuna will have a pretty nice Daytona. A better investment than an older Strat...
  11. If any of you guys are really hard for this guitar, I'll pick it up and arrange shipping on your behalf.
  12. Not affiliated with the seller/sale in any way. Looks awful purty... http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/msg/1016580310.html
  13. Rondo Music will sell you an SX 5-string bass between $120(!) and $469. Don't mess with the Blitz!
  14. I don't feel out of place at all. I'm the oldest guy in the band at 51, but the youngest is only 12 years away. We're playing bars that are populated largely by older crowds. They like the old material and accept the new stuff. We do a good enough job that even the youngsters come up and tell us we rock. I love what I do and I realize that it's a low-paying hobby, a way to blow off some steam at the end of a shitty week. And if some young girl flashes her tits at us (and they still do!) so much the better...
  15. "So who's in Phoenix?" Phoenicians? Try to get to the Heart Attack Grill at 44th & Thomas, any place that sells a 'Triple Bypass Burger' served up by a cupcake in a skimpy nurse's uniform can't be all bad... http://www.heartattackgrill.com/
  16. It's entertaining to watch a country that so strongly embraces competition go apeshit over Apple's proprietary toys.
  17. There was an outfit from Toronto named "ZON" back in the eighties. Wretched.
  18. Maple on guitars. Rosewood on basses. Ebony on chess pieces.
  19. Rush Jethro Tull Frank Zappa I never was fond of mainstream stuff...
  20. Down here in So. Cal. there are lots of drinkers to take up the smokers' slack. Anyway, a cold night here (I'm on the coast) is like 50 degrees so the smokers just step outside to suck their butts...
