  1. I'm putting in Lindy Fralin Pure PAFs in my build, on his website he recommends his "split Kit " which uses a resistor and a capacitor, for coil splitting.
  2. I have a DGT, and the coil split sound is really good, especially on the bridge PU; I didn't know about that resistor bleed trick, can that be done on any four conductor humbucker ?
  3. That's basically what the ProTec Contego is. This is so similar to the Ibanez gig big I have.
  4. I bought an Ibanez gig bag, for 135.00 US, semi rigid frame, neck support, excellent padding/protection, and a really good sized pocket at the front which will take three pedals, cords, and a strap with ease; best gig bag I've ever owned, unfortuneately it doesn't appear on their website any more, otherwise I'd buy another one for sure. 5. Got to agree with that, nothing quite as satisfying, and complex as a good amp when it starts to get angry; but for gigs with volume constraints the Wampler paisley drive, and pinnacle do an amazing job of emulating just that. I spot a Mad Professor Snow white auto wah, one of my favourite pedals, outrageously expensive for the hand wired version though !! Jaberwock
  6. I have to agree Warmoth is expensive, but everything I've had from them has been excellent; finishing the body yourself can save a lot; last time I bought a Goncalo alves / pau ferro neck with a slight crack near the tuners for 175 bucks, requiring no finish it feels it feels wonderful in the hands. The main reason for building yourself would be to get something unique, ie a thinline Tele with p 90s, a Koa top, and a bigsby, if you just want to build a sunburst Strat, you would be better off buying a Fender and going the Murkat route, taking it apart, putting it in a box, and six months later putting it back together. 7. I've built three guitars using Warmoth necks, and bodies, sourcing pickups and hardware from elsewhere, they all worked out really well, and one of the Teles is exceptional, probably used that guitar for more live shows than any other guitar I own. The wood recipe is maybe the most crucial part, in my experience alder/maple/rosewood is a great combination for Strats, and swamp ash/ maple for Teles; I normally swap around pickups to find the set that best suits that guitar, my current favourites are Bareknuckle for Strats, and Don Mare for Teles, but the joy of building your own is you can adjust the recipe if you prefer a brighter, or darker sounding instrument. Neck profile is very important, find a neck you really like , measure it very carefully, and find the profile that's closest; bear in mind the Warmoth double acting trussrod is bigger and heavier than a standard Fender one, and can sound a little shrill in a standard slim, or thinner neck . The fretting is decent from the factory but will need dressing if you want a low action. There is a ton of info on the Warmoth forum. Good luck Jaberwock
  8. I put some Tonerider p90's into a friends Korean made PRS, these are scary good for the money, really not that far off 100 dollar boutique pickups; they use CNC machines to duplicate traditional hand scatter winding techniques. If you want to try a different sound without a huge cash layout these are excellent. I'm sure you'll love the Lollars Jaberwock
  9. Out of curiosity, why did u opt for an underwound neck? Was it because u went with a standard winding in the bridge position? Also, was their a reason you opted not to go with the overwound bridge? many thanks, Because, I wanted a little more clarity, and twang; the stock SD's are great for punk, but that's about all....... plus this was Jason's recommendation for the Monaco III. 10. Put Lollars in my Monaco III, neck 5% underwound, bridge standard; huge improvement over the original ceramic SD P90s. Jaberwock
  11. BKP are high end , hand wound, pickups from the southwest of England, Tim the owner winds all the single coils personally, I have a set of "mothers milk" on one of my Strats and they are they are the equal of Lollar's, and Fralin's to my ears. Never tried the humbuckers though. Jaberwock
