  1. Anyone tried that 60s reverb? Sold out now, but looks interesting.
  2. Hey guys! My tune is called "I don't know". Here's a breakdown: I wrote it during the Covid lockdown for my wife. We were both really frustrated and saddened because we had to delay fertility treatment because the clinic was closed. Anyway, the recording: My friend played drums on his electronic kit, I took his midi tracks and used the samples from Native Instruments for the drums. Bass was another friend, he send me a DI signal and I manipulated it with Guitar Rig and some other effects. I played and recorded acoustic, electric, keys, sang and mixed it. It took me a long time to mix, it was the first time I had tried mixing drums (even sampled ones). Also, I got new monitors at a certain point, so I went back and redid it. The monitors made a big difference for sure. Oh yeah! Almost forgot the Hamer content, all the electrics were done with one Hamer. A silver studio that I got from Toadroller. It's a mix of mic'ed amp sound and models from Guitar Rig. I tried to use different sounds for each electric track to thicken up the sound. I recorded it in Reaper with a mix of stock and waves plugins. I've since got some FabFilter and Slate stuff that I like better, I'm tempted to go back and do it again, but I might let it rest for a while since I've listened to it so often. Maybe go back in a couple of months.
  3. Thanks for putting this together Kiz!! Super happy to have been included. Haven't had a chance to check out everyone's songs yet, I will as soon as I can. Happy new year folks!!
  4. The paint jobs on the tops distracted me from that detail. 😂😂
  5. Damm! The inlays are great and a beauty top!!!
  6. Really, cool! Do you know approximately the year?
  7. Wow! Never seen one like that. A quilt top.
  8. Austin is spot on! That website is hard to navigate. The white Studio Custom with sustain block bridge is something else, but they have it listed at $6950. I wonder how long they will keep those before finally lowering the prices?
  9. What age did you guys find yourself stopping listening to new stuff? Or if you seek out new artists, do you look for stuff that sounds like older artists you’re into , or is it truly new? I still hear new bands I like here and there….but for the last 5 years or so I pretty much only buy albums from bands that I’ve already listened to for a long time. Then there’s music genres…for me the line was EDM. I think that was the first time I really was thinking, ok, I hate this and I don’t even want to give it a chance. Like my parents’ reaction to hip-hop! Ha ha. I must be getting old. J ps, I know there is still a lot of good stuff coming out...but I'm kind of in one those ruts where my interests has waned. I know it'll come back eventually.
  10. Lots of amazing looking guitars in this thread! My two favorites (visually, never played them) are the sunburst with Danelectro headstock and an Artist in jazzburst with a wraptail. I believe it's Veatch's if memory serves me correctly. I have a silver studio that I also think looks super cool, and sounds/plays great.
  11. Seems that way to me too. I waited for quite some time for the right Vanguard to come along, and now there has been a spate of them (and several variants) lately. Did you pick one up? What do you think of it? I'd met one when they first came out and loved it, but it took a while for me, the money and the guitar to all wind up in the same place at the same time. I finally snagged one maybe 9 months ago. To me, the Vanguard is the muscle car of the line. Light, fast, loud and rude. It's not made for smooth chords with numbers behind 'em (as my old country pickin' buddies would say), although I imagine it could do it in a pinch. Rather every note seems to pop right off the guitar with an unusual immediacy. Interesting, I had a 25th anniversary, seems a little similar to what you are describing. The distortion compared to a Sunburst I had, was maybe a little "dirtier" or a little fuzzy or something. Sounded like an old blues record.

  13. Not confined to Ebay, but in general I've seen more silver Hamers for sale in the last couple of weeks than I ever recall seeing before. I guess things go in cycles.
  14. With computers recording, and soundcloud and all that kind of stuff, I'm sure we could set something up. I'm not exactly sure the best way to do it. Maybe host some files on .ftp and people can download it and then add audio tracks? Not sure the ins and outs, someone with more computer know how may already have done something like this before.
  15. That clip is the Mean Reds, the band I was in from 1993-1997. The Rub is inactive at the moment as well; by nature it can easily be revived at any time but I don't have the desire at the moment. Lately I've come full circle and have been banging out Stooges/MC5/Endless Boogie-esque originals in the basement with the rhythm section of my college band. I can see maybe doing a proper recording in the future, but while I've learned to never say never, I think my days of playing publicly are probably over. Well, the cool thing is that you're playing with people, that's what's most important!! I hear you about playing publicly, the promotion is a pain in the ass! I'm getting to the point (pushing 40) where my friends (the little I have, ha ha) don't really go out anymore, so it's pretty hard to get people out for a show. Anyway, I'll soldier on with my original band. Also, I've never done covers before, so me and my drummer are kicking around the idea of doing a covers band of alt-country, which is relatively popular around here, and we like that music. So we may have the two bands going, and open for ourselves here and there. We're still working it out, but it should be fun.
  16. Thank you sir! Wish I had something better than a cassette copy of that. Would have been an epic tune with full production but we split up before doing anything more with it. Chris, didn't realize the Rub had split up, that sucks! Are you trying to find/start a new band?
  17. The Tragically Hip is HUGE in Canada, don't underestimate it. It's true that Rush and the Guess Who could be considered more influential because they're older.....but the Hip are really cultural icons in Canada. They are the one band that most people here agree on (well not everyone of course likes them).
  18. For electrics, I usually use 10s, sometimes 11s on a Gibson scale length guitar, especially after I've been playing acoustic a lot. On acoustic, I use 13s. As far as brand, for me, brands for electrics don't seem to make much of a difference. For acoustic though, it makes more of a difference to my ears. I like Martin phosphor bronze, I wouldn't mind trying out some "higher end" strings to see if they make a difference, as long as their isn't too much of a difference in price. For alternate tunings, drop D every once in a blue moon. I like a tuning I learned from Daughter from Pearl Jam, but overall, I never really got a hang of using alternate tunings, I've got enough difficulties playing normally!!
