  1. My '97 Eclipse... Not as snappy as my wraptail Eclipse but heavier and tons more sustain...and well, it's black
  2. I always lust after the silver sparkle Standard that BruceM owns and the Miller High Life guitar...but this one's already at my house
  3. I was thinking that very same thing...except I've never seen one
  4. I learn something new every day as well...like writing "no neck binding" instead of just "no binding." The body's bound just like a normal Studio Custom, but the neck is not. I'll try to post pix in the next few days.
  5. It is an Archtop GT Custom. I've got a '96 Archtop GT (non-custom) with dots and no binding. Seeker's right, though. Call it a Studio P-90 or nobody will know what the heck it is... I've always wanted a bound and crowned one, but right now my wallet says otherwise
  6. Even though I'm not much into shredders, that's just plain badass
  7. Hi I'm Bloozguy (Ray) and I haven't purchased a Hamer in 4 days...I'm hoping that I won't start thinking about what's next at least until this one arrives! I put underwound Fralin P-90's in my Archtop GT and they sound great. Not nearly as hot at the stock Duncans but still plenty of that wonderful P-90 grind when you want it.
  8. Great looking guitars!...and welcome to the family! Just remember that you have started something for which there is no 12-step program! +1 on the DLX-90. I have a Vanguard with one DLX-90 and one Virtual P90 in it and they're quiet and they sound good...but nothing matches a real P90 if you can deal with the noise.
  9. Good to hear you made it through safely...keep the gear dry and the beer cold!
  10. Take a bunch of high-resolution photos of the damage. Don't throw away any of the packaging and take photos of that as well. If it's practical, get more than one estimate on the repair cost. Be mindful of any deadlines for filing damage claims. I read somewhere that the biggest reason carriers don't pay claims is that they are not filed in the required time.
  11. My plain old red spruce MIII has plenty of snap and brightness...I'll bet the maple tops are hot! The price is a steal...someone should liberate that from the fools at GC
  12. Prayers and boatloads of good karma from Minneapolis.
  13. +1 on that...my daughter is in her fifth year of playing violin and I just upgraded her to a better grade, but still "student", instrument that I got at a great price from her orchestra teacher...and it was only $1800!! When I expressed shock at the price, she just pointed to the rack of Hamers and said "how much were those?" She didn't realize that she had already won the battle, but that did me in. Best thing to do is find a PRS player who tries a high-end Hamer and doesn't bond with it...that's how I ended up with a virtually new Monaco III for $1400.
  14. HBD BD! Have a great one! Ray
  15. The very first tone that I can remember stopping me dead in my tracks was the opening to the Rolling Stones' "Satisfaction." Followed shortly after by... Peter Green with Fleetwood Mac on "Green Manalishi" Jeff Beck on "Beck's Bolero" Carlos Santana on "Samba Pa Ti"
  16. I've got a Rio in the bridge and stock Duncan in the neck on my DT and it sounds good...I'm still toying with putting Phat Cats in it though.
  17. If there was a "best" Tele, everyone else would have quit making them! I've got a buddy who owns a nearly mint '52 Tele. It's a great piece of his retirement savings, but as a player it's a turd. He plays an early-80's Japanese Fender Tele Custom with an added middle pickup and 5-way switch. I have 3 Teles...an early-80's Japanese Fender Pink Paisley reissue that's had its fingerboard recontoured, been refretted with Dunlop 6105 wire, and pickups replaced with Duncans...a custom built by a late friend of mine - Warmoth flame maple over swamp ash bound body with a Warmoth ebony over flame maple neck, three pickups, Glaser B-bender...and another custom built mahogany body with rosewood over maple neck and a mini-humbucker in the neck position. Is one of them "best?" Nope. They're all different. The bender tele is the most versatile as two of the pickups are tapped humbuckers. The paisley has the "normal" tele sound. The mahogany is the most comfortable because it's got a strat-style arm cut on the body and the mahogany gives it a sound all its own. If you want the tele sound, get a normal tele...they can be had in all flavors at all prices...just go find one you like and one that likes you. Remember...Leo wasn't a cork-sniffer. All this said and done, someday I will buy a T-51 just to have one.
  18. That's about what I paid for mine (with OHSC) a few months ago from a private party...that's a great deal on a great guitar!
  19. A mere 9 hours, 14 minutes away...according to Mapquest. I'll be there (+1 on the "if I'm still alive"). Hey Twin Cities folks...caravan?...motorhome?
  20. My thoughts and prayers are with you and yours.
  21. I finally got around to reading this thread in its entirety this morning...ROTFLMAO!!! Bruce, here's some sage advice...hang out on the board for a while, read some of the posts, figure out that quite a few of these folks have more collective Hamer knowledge than most people will ever live to acquire, ask your question, then take your answer, however disappointing, like a man... Nah, do it just the way you've done it...it gives us 8 whole pages of belly laughs!
  22. At first glance, this scares the heck out of me... But as long as they are smart enough to leave Hamer alone or fund its expansion in a logical manner, it may not be a bad thing. When I bought my Guild Bluesbird (now on its way to Crabby) a few years ago, I talked to a Fender rep about why the Guild electrics disappeared. He told me at that time that there were discussions about making certain models such as the Bluesbird, Starfire IV, and one of the big jazz boxes, but they needed a more diverse product line to compete with Gibson, etc. Maybe the addition of Hamer will make that happen. A fusion between Hamer models and the former Guild models would certainly be a burr under Gibson's saddle! I agree with Hamerica...there was a lot of bad-mouthing going on with the Kaman acquisition and relocation, but IMHO the product has just gotten better. Bloozguy
  23. Another Happy Belated Birthday to you Bruce!!!
