That was Rick's Picks in Rockford when I went.  He also has (or had) a checkerboard Mini.

Wonder if this auction could raise Hamer prices? Those played by Rick will have the celebrity bump-up. As long as Joe B doesn’t start collecting Hamer guitars…..

I would bet that he's going to get 0004 if nothing else.

  2. If I could still play, I'd buy it back.  It was a Holy Grail of a guitar for me and spent 16 years in my guitarsenal.  When I had my Cheap Trick tribute band, I rotated through all of my 25 guitars and usually took 3-5 to my gigs.  That was the ONLY guitar that went to every gig.  I miss playing it terribly (double meaning intended 😂).

  3. This was the first one I ever picked out for myself and bought but coincidentally to OP, BTO - Not Fragile was THE album that got me into hard rock.  My brother is 7 years older than me and had left most of his 8-track collection behind when he went to college.  I worked my way through them and that was my first real "favorite album".

  4. I never interacted with him personally, but I certainly remember the name.  I really hate to see it when ANYone from the HFC is having health issues or passes.  I played for about 40 years (up until my strokes in 2024) and I had joined several guitar forums over the years but this is the only one I actively participated in, ever.  The quality of the people here is unparalleled.

May Ed rock on in a better place.

  5. Definitely no slouch, but I felt a little sorry for him because it always seemed like whoever the "other" guitarist in Thin Lizzy was at any given time was the better player.  These pics are from that "Thin Lizzy" tour when John Sykes fronted the band (so long ago I still had 'some' hair), him being one of the guitarists I referred to in the previous sentence.  You can't compete with that guy.

Ha!  I played that bassline during soundcheck last night hoping somebody would pick up the hint…

I would have!  I used to play just that pedal E at the beginning of the song at band practice and invariably someone would go "YES!!!  Do it!"  It's funny how people can recognize a song just from something like that.  One of the trademarks of my style was dropping riffs, melodies, or solo quotes from other songs into the song I was playing like they do with this one.

  7. No, I wasn't there but I am certainly interested so I've been looking at some of the reviews and videos being posted.  Decent setlist, and really cool opening with Xanadu and having Aimee Mann come out for Time Stand Still.

    Set 1:
    Xanadu
    Limelight
    Far cry
    Subdivisions
    Freewill
    Bravado (Neil tribute)
    Caravan
    La villa strangiato
    Vital signs
    Spirit of radio
    Set 2:
    2112 / Temple of syrix
    Distant Early Warning
    Red Barchetta
    Dreamline
    Natural Science
Time Stand Still (with Aimee Mann)
    Red Sector A
    YYZ
    The Garden
    Tom Sawyer (South Park)
    Encore:
    BYTOR and The Snow Dog
    Working Man

Alex also played an Explorer-style guitar which I've never seen before, and Geddy wore a shirt when he played his doubleneck that seems to be a nod to certain other Canadian band that's getting a ton of interest right now.  I saw a video of the "drum fill" section of Tom Sawyer and the crowd roared in approval when Anika hit it.  I'll be interested in hearing what any of you that actually make it to a show think.

An old friend dropped by but he was just working his day job.

  8. This would have to be one of them.  My first AC/DC album.  When I first saw it, I actually thought it was a live album from both the cover and the shot of Angus on the back.  I could practically see the picture moving when I listened to it.  The sound was so in your face it was like they were in the room with you.

  9. They were a bucket list band for me when they still had several original or classic era members left, but like so many bands I'm sure the current lineup plays the music competently but they just aren't THE guys, so I no longer have any desire to see them.

I only have a few albums, but I love the ones I have.  Nature of the Beast is (to me) their best, but I remember when I got Power Play.  The first single from it, Enough Is Enough was so hooky  I played it over and over incessantly in my room, and not exactly quietly.  My dad finally came in one day after hearing it one too many times and said "Enough IS enough!"
