Deluxe, 3LP reissue. UFO rip up the floorboards at the Marquee Club on discs 2 and 3.

I've come to appreciate their post-Schenker records more than when I was a kid. Like @tommy p says, they put out some great music with Paul Chapman.

Can I show this post to my wife to prove that someone once agreed with me on something?

Still love CCR. And John's solo stuff is really good. But it never captured the vibe of the original band. That rhythm section - Stu Cook and Doug Clifford - never got the credit they deserved, nor did brother Tom. John was the brains, but those guys were the backbone.

Agree.  Every band has a certain chemistry and even if you replace members with superior musicians (not that this happened with CCR), sometimes the vibe of the band is lost.

There are open seats for the Thursday show in Des Plaines… but at 159.00 I’m going to have to live with the rusty memory of the “Lights out” tour show at the International Amphitheater. A memory so distant I needed to fact check it with my buddy Pete🤣

Seriously?  $159?  Wow - they were nowhere near that expensive here.  Less than half that after fees.  Maybe a different kind of venue than we had.

Same here.  Ours were $60 and I was second row center.

Like Jeff I also have several of the Hercules and like them a lot. The 4 pictures are screwed into a header so I didn't have to worry about stud spacing. There will be three more going in below those before too long, will be painting a 1x4 poplar board from Lowe's to match the wall and screwing that into studs and screwing the hangers into the board, I don't trust drywall anchors.

I like those animation cels, especially the one from Bully for Bugs (what a nin-cow-poop!).  My sister started collecting them years ago when you could get them for nothing.  She must have at least 50, all from Looney Tunes or Disney, except for one from the Grinch.  I have one seri-cel of the Beatles from Yellow Submarine.

According to a quick intrarwebs search….

    Roberto Dimitri Liapakis

replaced Erik Grönwall for Michael Schenker's "My Years With UFO" 50th Anniversary Tour in the US after Grönwall had to leave the tour for family reasons in early May 2025. Liapakis stepped in to cover for Grönwall for the US portion of the tour

Thanks!  I had found it while I was at the show but today when I looked I gave up after trying four or five links, lazy bastard that I am.

  6. I saw this in Hopewell VA Tuesday night, second row center.  I'd rate it a good 9 out of 10.

I had seen lots of videos of opener Jared James Nichols online over the years and I couldn't have despised him more.  I liked his playing but his ridiculous guitar faces absolutely ruined it for me.  Live it was an entirely different story.  He is nowhere near so over-the-top with the faces as he is online and his songs are decent hard rock stompers for the most part.  He tries a little too hard to show his control of dynamics, taking his volume down to damn near inaudible on several songs throughout the night.  Once or twice would have been plenty.  His drummer and bass player were both solid players and backed him up well.  The bass player was the spitting image of Brian Robertson of Thin Lizzy.  Someone else mentioned they closed with a cover of War Pigs which they did at the show I saw too, and Jared pretty much let the audience sing it.  He was grinning and having a great time and I like him a lot more now after seeing him live.

I've never been the biggest UFO fan and actually prefer his MSG stuff and Chapman-era UFO to Schenker-era UFO, but I had seen him for the first time at Schenkerfest a few years ago and I swore then if he came back around I would go.  THAT was incredible and all 4 of the singers were excellent.  He had the same second guitarist/keyboard player (Steve Mann) and drummer (Bodo Schopf) from Schenkerfest with different bass player (Barend Courboois) and singer (definitely NOT Erik Gronwall, but I didn't catch his name).  Steve Mann is a great guitarist in his own right and actually took the first solo of the night along with several others later.  I looked up Courbois and he has played with a hundred different bands.  He was great and had kind of a tough guy stage presence.  The singer reminded me of Klaus crossed with Dio.  It might have been just because he was short and had curly hair like those guys (although more of it 🤣).

Even though I am not deep on older UFO, I recognized almost every song and I must say I liked the songs a lot more at this show than I ever have on record.  One thing I think is cool about Schenker is that he doesn't tap or sweep.  He just plays with killer tone and feel.  I loved it when he took extended solos.  Really inspiring player.  He also looked like he was having a great time and stepped up to the mic several times during the night to say thanks.

If you ever liked Schenker or UFO I would highly recommend seeing this show.  (No pics because I don't take pics at shows.  There are always plenty of other people doing it.)

  7. I love the AC/DC one and would take a whole album of that!  I hate the Iron Maiden one.  I've heard WAY too many of these that claim to be a certain song done in a radically different style than the original and it turns out it's nothing like the original song at all; the chord changes and melody are nothing like the original song and isn't that what a song is?  The Maiden song is just their lyrics set to completely different music.  Barf.

  8. I'm going tomorrow night (Tuesday 9/9)!  I saw him for the first time on the Schenkerfest tour with the 4 singers a few years ago and it was fan-damn-tastic.  I'm not a big fan of UFO (in fact I prefer the Chapman era) but I couldn't pass up seeing Schenker again and I thought maybe seeing some of his era's UFO stuff performed live might warm me up to it a little.

  9. Something's not right.  I just searched for 5 or 6 radically different items and every one come back that there are 436 results.  None of the results are for the item I searched for.  They may have some bugs to work out before the site is of much value to anyone.

Also, Hamer95USA's listings never load for me.

  10. I was never a big Sabbath fan, but I remember the exact intersection I was stopped at in my hometown when I heard Crazy Train for the first time.  I didn't even know the Sabbath members' names so if they announced it was by Ozzy Osbourne I wouldn't have know who that was.  When I found out I could hardly believe it because the music was so much better IMHO.  I know people put Ozzy Sabbath on a pedestal but I have always said the best thing that ever happened to the band or him was splitting up.  I like them without him, and him without them.  That said, I am very happy he was able to reunite with them and do it one last time, especially since Bill Ward was included.  It's a tragedy for his fans that he went so soon after that show but it could have been worse.  He could have died a week or two BEFORE that show.  RIP.

I'm still a fan of the Canadian-made TKL cases, I got some used TKL 'Premier'-model cases back before The Pandemic and before shipping became so eye-gougingly expensive, they still serve me well and they don't scream 'Fender' at thieves looking for a five-finger discount:

Premier™ Rectangular Universal Electric Guitar Hardshell Case - TKL

TKL also does an 'End-Bound' case that is similar to a G&G, which is also about as expensive, too:

LTD™ Universal Strat® Style Hardshell Guitar Case - TKL

Of course, they also make cases for different guitars and instruments, too...LPs, Jazzmasters, etc:

Find Your Fit With The TKL Case Finder - TKL World Class Cases

When were they made in Canada?  The TKL headquarters and factory are in Oilville, VA less than 10 miles from my house.  I've been here about 10 years and I didn't even know until one day I was out driving around backroads exploring and drove right by it.

  12. I went to the Schenkerfest show in Richmond, VA.  It was my first time seeing Schenker (or anyone else with him for that matter) and it was excellent.  My office was a block away from the venue so I walked around at lunch and saw Steve Mann (Schenker's second guitarist and keys player) out getting his lunch too.  All of the singers were good, but Graham Bonnet stood out.  Of course I could be biased because Assault Attack is my favorite Schenker album.  I'm going to the "Schenker plays UFO" show in September.
