Happy birthday Johnny B! I was wondering if this post ever got his attention:

If the design was originally silkscreened, someone could always have a 'replica' made easily enough, and for a lot less money. Just sayin'.

Maybe somebody swapped out the body, including doing it on the production line? Or not?

The replacement bodies also have that big hole next to the pickup routes,,,
I have seen that circular hole on factory-built and -finished Fenders too, my guess is that it has something to do with the manufacturing process.
I have no idea about the matter of paint in the neck pocket vs. no paint having an effect on neck fit, all I know is that all recent factory MIM Strats that I've seen have had a good neck-to-body join with no obvious gaps, and my 'replacement part' Strat neck has a snug fit in the neck pocket with the 'replacement part' body as well.
BTW, if anybody wants to see a good 'natural' (actually played and used, not faked) example of 'relic'-ing of a '70's Fender black Poly-finished Strat from use, this guitar showed up at DGS today (no affiliation, and already sold anyway, so check it out while it's still there):
Hardtail Strat '73 – Dave's Guitar Shop (davesguitar.com)
Notice in the photos of the body cavities of the '73 Hardtail, the original finish on the inside is really rough and textured where it hasn't been routed afterward...which is exactly what I also saw in the trem spring cavity of the recent 'factory' MIM Strat that I mentioned in my original question. Nice to know that 'factory' assembled MIM guitars are finished very much like the '70's originals, when it comes to the paint job...for better, or for worse! I think I might have just answered my own question...

Maybe they'll finally get around to making Marshall stacks standard equipment in Honda vans:

I've got a Fender Partscaster with a Fender MIM '60's 'replacement' alder Strat body that is factory finished in black, that has no paint in the body cavities, including the cavity for the trem springs...you can clearly see this in the Fender listing photos, and the painting (or lack thereof) is a very neat and tidy job, too (I like the look, as long as those areas don't need shielding paint or tape)...BTW, all the replacement bodies appear to be this way regardless of color:
Odd thing is, factory assembled MIM Fender Strats generally do have paint in the cavities from what I've seen (maybe other models, too), and it's not necessarily neatly finished or even masked off in those areas, especially in the trem springs cavity...they look like they have a lot of excess paint overspray on the inner surfaces of the body, and it's rough in appearance, or at the very least 'textured'. Does anybody here know why there's a difference?

With the embossed 'Gibson USA', gold HB covers and screws, plus the vinyl/plastic-covered lead on at least one of the pickups, I'm guessing they might be Gibson 490 and/or 498s. There's no factory I.D. stickers on the bottom, obviously.

What is special about this model? No pun intended:)
IMO, a price like that price for a USA Special FM likely hasn't been around since The Pandemic, if not The Great Recession; even with the nut boogery, the possibly (?) changed PUs, changed knobs, gold tuners, and the lack of an original Hamer case. If you mention the 'flaws' I just listed, you might be able to get the price lowered even more.

If somebody would come along playing something honest, no computers no pedals just plug in and rip like Molly Hatchet in the '70s, I think it would blow up really big..
Vintage Trouble's still around somewhere, aren't they?

Cool, congrats! The gutshot photo definitely answers any questions I had about handwiring.

I have one, a softside, came with a guitar. It's generally OK, I guess, but not my first choice for that sort of thing. Never have actually bought one, though.
That's how I've encountered their product as well. I'm not a fan of China-made soft-sided 'luggage'-style gigbags, besides the profit margins on their new stuff has to be huge. When it comes to hard cases, I will look for a good used Canadian-made TKL plywood case over pretty much anything else...unless G&G is having a fire sale on their stuff.

I don't pay much attention to 'brand names', especially since import builders churn out tons of guitars under lots of different names. I pay much more attention to who originally makes the guitars in the first place...or in the case of 'partscasters', who makes the parts; plus the level of materials and quality of the guitar/parts or lack thereof.

Maybe Rick Nielsen will buy it and pretend to play it.
And autograph it, too.

I'm no expert, but I've heard before that 70's Gibson serial numbers were all over the place, with no particular method (or pattern) to the madness. Maybe this article will help?

Yes, anything you communicate there is on their servers and yes, they'll have the ability to scan it. That's how they can sort out disputes. Even if you put an email or phone number in a message, I think they'll view it as stating you're trying to go around them. They're providing a bigger audience for your guitar/amp/effects.
In other words, treat the info like your spouse or significant other is looking over your shoulder and/or has access to your computer.

Well I guess we could say that '50's Q.C. was a 50/50 shot at getting it right?
More like PUs made on a Wednesday morning vs. PUs made on a Friday afternoon...think 'Pizza Day' Hamers.

No comprendo. Que cuesta en USD$?
According to Google, it's about US$1540 at current rates. The word 'affordable' is relative IMO, I know I don't have that kinda spending money at the moment.

That's a pristine '59 'burst, but it makes you wonder why it wasn't played more over the last 64 years. Perhaps this provides a clue (if accurate):
- Neck pickup output: 9.18K Ohms
- Bridge Pickup output: 7.37k Ohms
I've seen other vintage LPs for sale with original PAFs that had similar original PU 'mismatches', IIRC either Seth Lover or Ted McCarty said the PUs weren't 'measured' before installation, they just pulled them out of a bin during assembly, which is kinda like how Fender did it too. Gotta love '50's QC.

I don't do any sales 'in person' anymore, haven't in a long time...too many crazies and thugs out there. Saw this on the local (Nashville) news yesterday:

I feel the same way about 18 watt Marshall clones. Where were those when I was just starting out years ago?
