Not to be silly but is the "Hamer crew" building "custom order" Guilds or production guilds or both? Greg, I owe you a call about that Standard you sold me on in December. For the rest of the world, this is related to this thread. In December Greg posted photos of a Standard that somebody walked away from. Supposedly one of the last of the prod line whatevers. Quite frankly I am not sure if I believe all of this stuff about the last of the prod line guitars but I trust what Greg says. It was the first new Hamer I ever bought and I have owned only 4-6 (currently have two). Greg almost had to talk me into it because it was before Christmas, tuition bills were on the table, etc. I bought it because I drink the Hamer Kool-Aid and am not sure that there will be any other chances to pick up a Standard built while the company was focused on Hamers and seemlingly comfortable in their zone. It was exactly the questions being raised here that caused me to buy this. It cost me twice what I ever spent on a guitar. Was it worth it? To me yes. If forced to flip it, I'd lose a good chunk, but this is not going anywhere. I will shoot some photos soon.

When did Jol become the controlling shareholder? Isn't he just a paid exec, at this point. Mind you, not an unenviable position - - he draws a check and does his thing. While probablyworrying about the staff and all the mouths they feed. In any other economy, he would probably be looking for the dough to buy out the business - - if he believes in it. Or the equipment if he wants to become his own master again. Just sayin'.

Recommend a steel string accoustic smaller than a dread
Pieman replied to Pieman's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
[ I have a Revival. In a word: FFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!! Outside your range me thinky. You migt be thinking of Breedlove Revivals and those are too rich for me. Here's the one from GP http://www.revivalacoustics.com/gp0609_gea...undup_pg106.pdf -
With my IRS refund, I hope to have some dough to buy a budget priced steel string.. Would replace my old lifeless/too big Ibanez. Budget $500-600, but definitely under a grand. I don't need a cutaway or electronics Mostly for flat picking and some finger picking Would probably be used by my smallish 13 year old daughter when she is not on piano or FaceBook. Looks like Takamine and Breedlove are they big two in this price range. Are there Taylors or Larrivees in this price range.? GP gave Revival Accoustic the Editors Pick last year in a bdget shoot-out. Maybe I'll just drive over to Elderly in Lansing when I am in Detroit. On another point, there seems to be more accoustic/electrics at this price point than pure accoustics. To my ears, when plugged in, they usually sound like they are strung with rubber bands. Does the electronica take away from the natural sound unplugged? Maybe I need to find an accoustic guitar board but I trust this board. Thanks

Another sign of "no love" for Hamers
Pieman replied to Hgb5000's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Could a big factor be the market itself. Consider that in the last 15 years the number of guitars manufactured has just exploded. Not just by quantity but by manufacturer. In the 80s Fender was forced to use its Japanese affiliate to produce until it could get the US operations up to snuff. Then it was build 'em in Mexico, then Korea, China, Indonesia and now India. Fender-philes are raving about the Fender 50s Vibe Tele for $350. Two years ago it was the "51" model. And these are Squires. Not even MIM Fenders. I bought a 51. (I would by the Vibe Tele if I weren''t paying off a new Standard from BCR.) The Fender line has something for everybody at every price point. We snear at the Hamer imports but there are quite a few decent low-end guitars by many other manufacturers. And look at the new revived manufacturers such as Eastwood or Danelectro, or offshored makers like Reverend. (I have a Dano re-issue and a Reverend). If I have $700 burning a hole in the pocket, I could pick up a fine used Hamer (but somewhat similar to my other Hamers), or I could buy a decent new guitar or a used one for 1/2 that and it would give me a different tone, a different feel and heft. The fun factor is there. I am buying a new Standard from Greg from Hamer overstocked inventory. I didn't need it, although I have wanted one for years. The discount price was too much to pass up, especially if Hamer will now become a custom shop and won't be making "run-of-the-mill" Hamers. There will be likely fewer dealers selling new stock Hamers. Take advantage of the Eddie's Guitar deals now. You will need to pay $4000+ for those next year, new, if you want one. And that is way too rich for me. -
New to the board, check out my rig :)

Pieman replied to bubs_42's topic in For Sale - Wanted to Buy - PIF - eBay & Other PSAs
Bubs, you are a good man to let this go for lttle or no profit. You could have easily gotten $600 and nobody would have complained. A toast to Bubs. -
What's this Hamer Relic worth?
Pieman replied to Bruce's topic in For Sale - Wanted to Buy - PIF - eBay & Other PSAs

Why not so much love for Hamer on the bay and TGP
Pieman replied to Hgb5000's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I'm following this one. Different weight and sound than a Custom, but equally worth to play. Excellent value for money. Add quality hardware to it and it rivals the original. Is it a Korean model? -
Why not so much love for Hamer on the bay and TGP
Pieman replied to Hgb5000's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
OR - both this weekend - The Artist Mahogany like the 25th Anniversary but w p90s, that went for less than $700 shipped - or about what a P90 Special might go for. Or the Artist Custom for $930 shipped. I paid $1250 in 2006 and it was a good deal then. This is a buyer's market like we have never seen. -
Forget the SD link. Just scroll down the page of bubs' Hamer link for pics and some info. Thanks, For some reason. I can't see member photos or some links (like ATQuinn has for his Hamers at the bottom of his postings). Maybe I need to check my HFC users settings. Here is the thread from lst month. http://www.hamerfanclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=37148

PSA: Friend's NOS Special FM on eBay
Pieman replied to Feynman's topic in For Sale - Wanted to Buy - PIF - eBay & Other PSAs
this might not be proper, but isn't $63 for shipping a bit high? -
Did nobody take that off your hands last December?

To cold outside for pics, but it Sunny inside!
Pieman replied to bubs_42's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Stunning. Nice job with the snaps. Get good insurance. -
If they would do it, what would a custom order cost (less the silver truss rod cover)? That top and color are really outstanding.
-
Didn't that go unsold the the first round with the reserve not met? Then it was "best offer"? Show us two things: Patience gets rewarded. And, there are not many buyers out there. Monaco IIIs for under a grand, 25th Anniversaries for $750 and now this. Oh and that Standard that went cheap last week.. wait 'til January when the Christmas bills come due and people unload more axes.

Jol gives props to some 80s designs
Pieman replied to cmatthes's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Is it possible to download the tunes playing at the blog? Parchman Farm by Cactus was up there a couple weeks ago and it took me back to 1971. But there is other good stuff on there all the time. -
Favorite bands that went nowhere, dept.

This thread is sooooooo looooooong...... Did anybody mention "Crack the Sky" which was from around Pittsburgh. Caught them one night around 1978 and they were a lot of fun.
