Hamer beefier necks? —and some guitar p0rn, just for fun
Travis replied to zorrow's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I used to have an ‘84 Vector just like that except it was a dark blue (no burst) with just a subtle sparkle to it. Same sustain block trem (also wood blocked) and hideous knobs. I sold it cuz the neck was a bit flat for me. To answer your original question: the later “Vintage” carve is probably exactly what you’re looking for. I had an ‘01 Artist Korina that had a nice beefy, round neck. I “think” that predated the official use of the terms “vintage” and “modern” for their thick and thin necks. But from what I played, that ‘01 Artist Korina was indistinguishable from the “Vintage” carve. -
Hmm…. I didn’t know that about the difference in neck width. I might’ve seriously considered the white JEL, too. The 21 vs 22 fret deal doesn’t make a big difference to me. I’ve got guitars with 21, 22, & 24 frets and the number of times it’s been an issue is…. Well…. I’m still waiting for it to be an issue…. 😂

Oh, wow. Ok. I didn’t even see the Floyd on the Charvel was recessed as well. Must’ve been the angle or me looking on my phone. I am definitely more accustomed to the non-recessed Floyd but I get what you’re saying about adapting to the different setup.

What are your thoughts on the recessed Floyds a la Jacksons vs the top mount Floyds like on the Chervels? I’ve always seemed to prefer the non-recessed Floyd’s myself. Just seems to be the right hand feel when palm muting…

If it was a different body shape, I probably would’ve jumped on this one. All y’all other MF’ers out there, buy from Bubs! -
Yes, the A2 Custom/Custom is in the bridge while the ceramic Custom is in the neck. It shouldn’t work. It really shouldn’t. But, it does…. 🤷🏻♂️

It’s hideous. I can’t. I just, I can’t…
-
If I remember correctly… Blitz had beveled edges, a different neck joint, the wrong headstock, different bridge (sustain block or SB trem), pickup selector by the knobs instead of the upper bout… Probably one or two other things as well…

I have seriously considered this exact thing… -
Definitely post pics of the cavity when you check.

Definitely the first one of its kind that I’ve seen. Looks awesome. So jealous.

Ahh!!!! I love it! Congrats! I’d heard about the mahogany tally for years and but had never seen it. And now there’s proof that it does exist. Full tone report needed. How does the lack of a maple top tame the brightness of the sustain block? Any idea how much of it is chambered? Let me know if you need it x-rayed. 😜 And just remember who called dibs…

Sorry to hear about all the stress and trauma over the last bit of time. Thankfully you have an outlet and an amazing talent with which to occupy yourself. Love seeing your build posts. You, sir, have a gift.

That’s a steal for a Studio Custom. Hope someone local can snag it.
