I...I...I don't know what to say. I am amazed and humbled at the generosity and empathy. This is a special kid, and you've all gone out of your way to make someone's life better, and there's a HAMER at the center of it. Just amazing. Video of pint-sized-kid-rocking-out to come... Geoff Edited to add: Here's a video of my guy Paulie singing and playing "Hotel California" with the guitar that got murdered, filmed just a few days before:

Hey Fellas- SO many thanks for the support. Paulie and his father came to my jam last night and said that they were, in fact, truly touched by all the support you guys have offered. It looks like it will take a little while to get the offending party to cough up the dough. If you wish to contribute to help defray the cost of this beautiful Hamer guitar to a very deserving kid, straightblues will be posting his paypal acct info. Geoff

I REALLY appreciate the support fellas... he does too. For the moment, I'll hold off collecting toward the cause and focus on finding the guitar for him, though a few extra bucks might make the sale easier for the seller, shipping etc. - I'll keep everybody posted. Anybody got a 25th anniversary? Vanguard? Artist? Geoff

Hi Guys- I have an excellent student who had a bully smash his guitar at school. Yep. A semi-hollow 335 copy - Literally smashed the neck off and totalled it with malicious intent. This is a really good (not wealthy) kid and he's going to be scorching in a few years - if I can find I'll post pics of him playing a song with my band on Halloween - he was dressed as Ace Frehley. *sniffle* Long story short, it looks like he'll be getting some money from the bully's parents and he's looking to upgrade (using his confirmation money) into a Hamer Mahogany Artist HB, and he's looking to spend about $600. Can anybody help me out? Geoff Edited to add: We've gotten many gracious offers to help defray the cost of a Hamer for my guy Paulie, and HFC member straightblues is organizing the contributions. Here's a video of Paulie singing and playing "Hotel California" with the guitar that got murdered, filmed just a few days before: The HFC freakin' RULES!

Just by weird coincidence, my better half's father went to his last day of work yesterday. Been with the same company for 35 years, and now is officially retired. In his case, he's pretty psyched with a nice chunk of change, and a ton of free time. I love Jol to pieces, and I hope he's maxing and relaxing. And you can have my Hamers when you pry them... Geoff

God help me... I can't stop looking at his navel... It... it... casts a shadow... It... probably has an echo... Geoff

A Faux Pas, for sure. Did he leave the gas tank empty and wrappers all over the floors too? As long as the guitar's basically okay, it's just a minor inconvenience. But you're a cool guy for lending it out like that. Geoff

Funny gig story from the weekend
geoff_hartwell replied to Jeff R's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Woah - As I read the beginning of the story I thought you meant she was gonna "Put them to SLEEP"... Thank god it went where it did... I like this ending much better - Always an adventure! Geoff -
Awesome. Stick it to 'em. Geoff edited to add: Check out "Thank you, Republic Airlines, for breaking the neck of my guitar" by Tom Paxton. It certainly predates this one by decades, but you gotta give it up for grass-roots going global with Youtube!

Happy Birthday Brother! Drop me a line when you can! Geoff -
With the exception of "Aerosmith" and "Beatles" versions of Rock Band, I don't know if anyone at all gets residual licensing, typically it's a lump sum. For example, when Slash did the on-screen character of himself for the last version, he griped that he had to agree to a lump sum or be excluded entirely. But I think it's f*cking CRIMINAL that the formerly great EVH would not only be so deluded as to think that Wolfgang could hold a candle to Michael Anthony, but goes so far as to retroactively REPLACE him on the classics in an obvious virtual "F*CK YOU"... it's just too much...

Howdy guys! Thank you guys SO much. I had a VERY good time, so I'll be existing on Pepto and Advil for the foreseeable future, but totally worth it. I believe there are photos, so if I can dig some up that aren't too terribly incriminating, I'll post 'em up. But for serious- THANK YOU! Geoff -
When were the best Hamer Standards made?
geoff_hartwell replied to BubbaVO's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I believe it was sometime around 1999 - it was after the move to New Hartford if I recall correctly. The original 4-digit run stopped by '85, and there were a small handful of custom orders done after that and before the "reissue" in 1995. I ordered one that arrived in '91 with a veneer top, but it was a slightly thicker veneer than on other 4-digit Standards I've owned. I also bought one of the first '95s off the line, and the top was the same as on my '91. In '99, Jol mentioned that the tops on Standards were being done differently - an actual 1/4" maple top was glued on to the mahogany back and then milled down to spec. I've been playing my '08 Standard a lot lately, so it's out on a stand - I'll check that out tonight and see if I can get a better idea of the final thickness on the current ones. That sounds about right Chris. I left in July 2000 and the change had been in place for awhile. I believe the top thickness spec is .100" (slightly under 1/8 inch). Any difference in the spec for chambered vs. solid? -
