BruceM Posted June 18, 2024 Posted June 18, 2024 WHEN: Saturday, July 20, 2024 at 3:00pm WHERE: Casa de Badger, near Marengo, IL Casa de Badger is really Badger Dave’s house, and Dave has agreed to host all the local and semi-local crazies for a summer evening of Hamer rock and roll. Bring your attitude and your favorite guitar and/or amp. As an inveterate party planner, Dave asked me to publicize this, so here you go! Please note: although this is semi-adjacent to the Chicago metro area, Marengo is quite a distance from the city proper. You should plan accordingly. Locate Marengo, IL on your favorite map app, and then look for the Illinois Tollway exit at Hiway 23 near Marengo. Dave’s house is within 2 miles of that exit. Address will be provided to all attendees who request it. Bring your favorite beverage and your rock and roll attitude. Oh, bring your drummer friend, too! We could use a couple of good drummers at this party. If you would like accommodations, there is a reasonably priced Super 8 at the Hiway 20 exit off the tollway just East of Marengo. Perhaps, if you mind your manners, we can make this a midwest tradition! 8 1 Quote

BadgerDave Posted June 19, 2024 Posted June 19, 2024 (edited) Thanks for posting this Bruce. If anyone is considering flying, resist the temptation to book a cheaper flight to Midway Airport. It will add hours to your trip, both ways and, frankly, its a cesspool. O'Hare allows you to avoid the 5 mph crawl through the annual summer road construction surrounding downtown Chicago and it's much easier to navigate. An even better option if you happen to be near an airport with access, is Allegiant Air into Rockford International. It's small, just off of I-90 and a quick 20 minute drive to the Casa. More to come . . . Edited June 19, 2024 by BadgerDave 5 Quote

gfc55 Posted June 20, 2024 Posted June 20, 2024 This sounds like a fun event. Unfortunately, Carmie and I have two other things planned for this date and won't be able to attend. Normally, our time is fairly open... George 1 Quote

Travis Posted June 22, 2024 Posted June 22, 2024 Ok… seriously trying to see if I can make this. like I said, it’s the day after my birthday. Wife was planning a rooftop Cubs game and hotel stay for my BD on the 19th. If that happens the this might not be in cards. If that falls through then I will be there…. Quote

HoboMan Posted June 23, 2024 Posted June 23, 2024 Sounds like fun. Not sure if I can make it. I used to drive through Marengo 5 days a week on my commute to work. Are you anywhere near that old sports bar where they built the new roundabout? Quote

MCChris Posted June 25, 2024 Posted June 25, 2024 SirDan was texting me about this and I had no idea what he was talking about lol. I missed the thread. Can't attend, unfortunately. Nephew's grad party. 1 Quote

BadgerDave Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 No, they are randomly placed on rural roads, small towns and mostly deserted stretches of highway. Quote
velorush Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 (edited) The one in downtown Nashville (the Music Row Roundabout) is absolutely terrifying. Axiom: Rednecks + Yuppies + Roundabouts ➡️ Sheer Terror. ETA: the problem (well, A problem) is it is so non sequitur. You're driving along a normal street downtown, stopping at redlights, merging lanes, navigating to wherever you're going and then BAM, this abomination! And you're IN it before you even realize you're IN it. Suddenly it's freaking NASCAR ("turn left, Bubba!") when all you intended to do was continue on the same street. Couple that with a hundred other people, half of whom are in the same boat of surprise as yourself, the other half of whom live there and can't drive for eye-rolling at these redneck idiots who have never seen a roundabout. BruceM Posted July 10, 2024 Author Posted July 10, 2024 How about a few songs to practice for the jam? 4321 All-Stars (which consists of an ever-rotating cast of regulars who like to hang out here at my house) are preparing a set for a friend's birthday party on Friday. I've committed to playing my Badger Dave Special Baritone Tele for the party set, so I'll throw out a few songs that I can handle on the tele (tuned to B-Major). So You Want To Be A Rock 'n Roll Star Ballroom Blitz The Jean Genie When The Levee Breaks Saving Grace (Tom Petty) All The Young Dudes We Gotta Get Out Of This Place (In the key of B so the riff sounds cool on the Baritone Tele) I've got a few more up my sleeve. What else is anyone interested in playing? 1 Quote
BadgerDave Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 I'll Feel a Whole Lot Better when You're Gone (Byrds or Petty) Whole Lotta Rosie AC/DC Neil Young - Powderfinger, Down by the River, Ohio, Rockin' in the Free World I'll Cry Instead, Hard Days' Night - Beatles Dead Flowers, Last Time - Stones In the Midnight Hour - Wison Pickett/ The Jam 1 1 Quote
