Robotic Anguinal Hernia Surgery

Hey Fellas!

Turns out I need my torso invaded by a robot for repairs tomorrow morning. Good news is it’s above my hip bone, not in the balls, but that’s about it lol.

Anyone here already do the recovery and have some helpful tips?

TIA!

I'll share with you one of the best pieces of advice my late brother gave me as I was about to have my gallbladder removed.
He had had hernia surgery a couple of years prior, so he felt this would apply:

He said to take a stool softener the minute you get home from the hospital.
"The last thing you want," he said, "is to be sitting on the can after internal surgery trying to push out a shit."

I followed his advice and upon dropping that first comfortable post surgery deuce, reflected on the sage wisdom he had shared, and I was very grateful.

Robotic = less invasive. Mesh or no Mesh

Wish you a fast uneventful recovery

You'll probably end up with three small incisions across your belly, about navel level. I'm pretty sure one of them is for an inflator they use to balloon you up. It will take a long time post-surgery to deflate back down to normal. Fun times ahead!

You likely will have shoulder pain as you deflate over a few days. They could do a nerve  block for the pain, can last a day or two before wearing off completely. Avoids/ reduces need for narcotics - plus or minus depending.  Hope you don't need a catheter!

@geoff_hartwell Just saw this... How did everything go?
Ah, fine I guess? The repair was more involved than what is deemed typical (ha) but getting there. It’s gonna be another slow week I think, but there’s a lot of improvement already and ultimately will be much much better. I think the prognosticated digestive issues, for me, were more related to the narcotic use (whoo! Been a while! 😮‍💨) than anything, and the fix was more humane with Metamucil rather than with Stool Softeners- I will spare the details but eeh Gads! 🤣

Okay so it LOOKS like three bayonet wounds, but really it was more accurately getting triple fisted by a robot controlled by a tiny Jewish lady surgeon - As far as I can tell that little lady surgeon was a stealth rock star!

Didn’t need a catheter, no repairs necessitated including my balls, and am just down to Tylenol/Advil which I’ll be weaning off too, but will maintain the steady use of THC gummies. The incisions are the three-across with a lot of healing needed to my belly button, but I surmise that’ll be forthcoming.

All suggestions for time wasters appreciated, special consideration given to Off-the-beaten-path 80s Movies! (Man, Tubi has some great stuff I forgot about!)

Thank you very much for asking 😊 I really appreciate it

Great to hear! Metamucil is some pretty good stuff, and it has a positive side effect of lowering cholesterol. Glad the gummies are available for you too... They aren't legal in SC yet, which sucks (as well as random hair testing where I work.) Keep it up!

Off the top of my head:

"The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension" - one of the most OTBP 80's movies and my absolute favorite

"Repo Man" - not to be confused with the later, "Repo Men," an absolute odyssey

"Big Trouble in Little China" a completely different movie than they set out to make

"Battle Beyond the Stars" - John Boy goes to space in a shameless attempt to cash in on the Star Wars mania. An incredible cast makes an extremely mediocre movie - the first movie gig for a kid named James Cameron

"Ice Pirates" - Dan Tanna goes to space in a shameless attempt to cash in on the Star Wars mania. This one doesn't take itself seriously at all and is far better for it.

"Krull" - odd movie that didn't get its due BITD

"Flash Gordon" - still love this if for nothing else the Queen soundtrack; incredible cast

Robotic surgery is freakin' amazing. I had a HUGE robotic surgery last year called a "Robotic Simple Prostatectomy". I had extreme BPH, I could barely pee, it was horrible. PSA was 15!!!. So after 3 no-fun Biopsies, 2 MRI's, my prostate was over double the normal size. The high PSA turned out to be due to the BPH, not cancer - whew! This was the best treatment for the long term. Other treatments don't last and you have to redo some of them. I went for the biggie surgery, $150,000 (My wife has insanely great insurance and we already met our deductible)

For a simple explanation... they go in and take out the goopy part and leave the prostate intact instead of removing it, so no nerve or peeing issues etc (I had no cancer thank god)

Got 6 holes in me and yeah, had to have a catheter for 10 days - That sucked. I'm peeing like an 18 year again and you can barely see the holes.

For the fun stuff, we've been binge-watching The Penguin, Tulsa, Silo. All good shows.

Wow that’s great news Ernie!

BTW - I’ve re-discovered a total gem of 80s Awesomeness: Dark Angel (also released as “I Come In Peace”) starring Dolph Lundgren and Brian Benben battling drug dealers from outer space. If you love 80s and SciFi and Action Cheese you’re in luck!

🤘❤️😎

I am glad the surgery went smoothly. You probably have some restrictions on how much weight they want you to lift post-op.

I had neck surgery to remove a benign tumor from the top of my spine about seven years back. The surgeon told me he didn't want me to lift over eight pounds for three weeks.

Without missing a beat I asked him "How am I gonna take a leak?"

He thought that was pretty funny.

The pain meds are all about stopping you up.
