Saul Goodman Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 I didn't know until a few weeks ago that this guy could actually play guitar, and play it well. I thought he was just a dork interviewing guitarists for the Rig Rundown. You might even say I kind of loathed the guy and his, "That's great," over and over again. Then I heard him play for the first time when he did a California Tweed demo. I posted something about that here and I believe it was @velorush who pointed me to some of his videos where he plays some tunes himself. Since this eyeopener for me I started appreciating John more and actually watching for his videos to come up in my feed. I've noticed a few things about him. One, he's always smiling. At first I thought it was just a sign that he was a dork but now I realize he is genuinely happy and actually interested in meeting the players and learning about gear they use. It is kind of a dream job if you think about it, which, of course, I hadn't reflected upon before, I was just interested in getting to the point of a particular gear piece. I've noticed in more recent videos his hair is graying up and figured he's maybe approaching 50. But then I look at him and this dude still has a body of an 18-year-old. How is that possible? And just now I learn he's turning 60 and been doing this thing of his for 44 years yet still has the appreciation for it of a sixteen-year-old. How many of us can say that? This dude is now my new hero. 7 Quote
kizanski Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 He can play and he's a dork. These two things are not mutually exclusive. 4 5 3 Quote

tbonesullivan Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 I love Bohlinger's interviews, and I love his demos. He's just someone who REALLY loves guitar, and is always happy about it. Definitely a breath of fresh air. I mean, if you want someone to go and get rig rundowns, you want a good player who is also really nice and a gearhead. He fits that perfectly. I also love watching Pete Thorn's stuff. He also loves so much about guitar, and honestly I never REALLY understood how a treble booster worked until watching his video on them. 3 Quote

mathman Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 When summary's or recent posts info doesn't provide accurate information about the response.... Not meaning to mislead but thought was very funny related to the thread. 2 Quote
Rich_S Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 (edited) Bohlinger’s recent Jack White Rig Rundown is interesting and hilarious. He was in the past the band leader/ music director for several big network TV country music shows. Edited December 23, 2024 by Rich_S 1 Quote
