Dave Scepter Posted February 22 Posted February 22 (edited) A little bit of a dad rock video and a tad sloppy, but I thought I'd share anyway... it's nice to see that he made it back from a recent quadruple bypass surgery 🙏 A little background on his heart issue Edited February 22 by Dave Scepter 2 Quote
RobB Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Who is this Steve guy, Dave? I agree about Splawns. I fired up my Comp20 at rehearsal and it just crushed. Not in a metal sort of way (though it does that, obviously), but it sounded killer. The FX loop works so well with the reverb pedal and acting as an overall master volume. 1 Quote

Just a dude that I stumbled upon... one of millions reviewing gear on YouTube... I just added his health issue to remind us how fragile life can be and to cherish every moment 🤘 4 Quote

velorush Posted February 24 Posted February 24 What would be the "gateway" Splawn? I am really enjoying the sound, but never leave Madison Square Bedroom, so I have no need of 50 watts. Is there a smaller iteration or is the sound steeped in the 50-watt concept with a great (as I read) Master Volume? Quote

They make a 20w 6v6 Super sport model in a combo and a head version that's pretty remarkable... 1 Quote

I also have a 50w El34 QuickRod that can be played at lower volumes due to the built in "loop volume attenuator"... I play this at bedroom volumes every day. 1 Quote
velorush Posted February 24 Posted February 24 (edited) How are they at low gain? From the videos they seem to be quite adept of all flavors of gain. My idea of "high gain" (for the noise I call "music") would be no more than VH1 or "Back in Black," Zep, etc., occasionally venturing into Priest-ish gain. I cannot see ever using a clean channel. Clean sounds are accessed by turning down the volume knob on the guitar. Maybe that would be the equivalent of using a Lamborghini Gallardo for a daily driver, but the videos really have me curious. ETA: on further investigation I have found the Splawn Competition - 50w single channel(!) Reading... Edited February 24 by velorush Quote

The 20w SS combo (currently being rocked by LucSulla) was my, “Gateway Splawn.” A head version of this and a 2x12 (bigger) cab can go toe-to-toe with any amp out there.
