For those of you who might be looking for some of the highest quality pick ups check out WCR. They have a website.

They also make a private line of pickups called Shredders for RS Guitarworks.

And if you have not yet checked out RS Guitarworks it is a very cool site. They do a lot of great upgrades of pots and electronics.

Do you need to upgrade the factory pots on Hamer guitars?

~Stokesdead

Absolutely not. They are of high caliber.

thanks, what about this treble bleed mod I have heard so much about over on the TopHat amps forum. Is that something my Studio needs?

I have Fillmores in my 95 Studio, no further upgrades were required.

I've got a Crossroads set in my Les Paul Custom - they're awesome to say the least and Jim's customer service is second to none.

I just bought a Iron Man and it absolutely smokes, fantastic pickup for hard rock/metal/punk/hardcore etc.

Can you give more details about this pickup? Is it quiet?

Very quiet for a high output pickup. I've been using EMG 81's for about 15 years and decided to try passives again, and it took me about an hour to get used to the Iron Man and to tweek my Engl Blackmore at practice last night. I'm sure there'll be a little more tweeking to come. I really can't compare it to anything else except the EMG 81 , it has more bass/low end, it isn't scooped at all, has more "grind" than the 81, about the same harmonics...It sounds 1000% better than the Gibson Tony Iommi pickup or Duncan Invader that I used to have...much more balls than the Iommi and no mud like the Invader. As much clarity as the 81 if not more. Plus, It came with the C-8 magnet in case I wanted to swap out the AlNiCo-5 that it came stock with. so far I'm happy with it. Hope this helps.

I love WCR pickups...I've yet to try the IronMan but I've had or currently own just about every pickup Jim makes and they are all killer, depending on the application.

My cover band does everything from AC/DC to Godsmack, and my favorite all around WCR pickup combo is a Fillmore bridge and Crossroads neck. Those two can do it all as far as I'm concerned.

A good buddy of mine (Herc who designed the WCR pickup bearing his name) actually now prefers the IronMan. Herc is an EMG freak and even he says it eats EMGs for lunch.

Finally, Jim is a true gentleman who definitely has top notch customer service.

Jaye,

I actually bought my Iron Man from Tatooed Carrot, the guy who came up with the idea for the Iron Man...

Got a Fillmore set in my R8. These are awesome RAWKNROOOOOOOOOOOL

pickups.

I have a Darkburst in my Korina V, sounds pretty darn good. I do think it might be better suited in a Lester however.

I've had Darkbursts in my Blue Studio before he had them on his website. Outstanding service, and great, great pickups.

The treble bleed cap is to maintain the treble in a neck pickup when you turn the vol down on it. Usually, it will get muddy. I put one in my Blue Studio and would never take it out. However, have never felt the need to do it on others cause I switched to Alnico 2's in the neck with windings in the 7.5k range; much less susceptible to muddiness.

I now get my non-bigboy pickups from Wolfetone Pickups. He does a 20 minute Q&A on what gear you have and what sound you're after. Nails em spot on, at least for me. Very competitively priced.
