Bass Pick up Question

A few months ago I picked up a 4 string set neck chap from some one here. I really like this bass a lot, it feels and plays great. However I'm not thrilled with the EMG pickups that it came with, I'm not sure if they came with the EMG's originally. They sound a little bland to me.

I'm looking for sugestions for changing the pickups, the music I play mostly has a classic rock feel, and I mostly play with a pick. If I do replace them I'd lke something that would fit with as little routing as possible. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

That should have the P and soapbar (where the J normally goes).

For classic rock you could put a Fender-ish P in, and just leave the soapbar unplugged, then you'd have very close to a P-bass.

EMGs do have their own sound for bass, but SO many great bass players use them (and sound great, like Victor Wooten), what amp/preamp are you using? Maybe swapping the expander control for a stacked bass/treble control (like on the newer emgs) would help.

Should be a P and a humbucker. The EMG humbucker is a P in a humbucker case (if you really have EMGs - some had DiMarzios with a black plastic cover).

I have a DiMarzio Split P and an X2N-B in mine.

I actually would have recommended the EMGs but if you don't like them, it would be a guess what you would like so you are probably going to have to try some pickups out to see what you will like.
